To my mind, Agnetha and Frida are the best female vocal harmony duo of all time. Their voices are perfect together; the mezzo and the soprano complement each other without fighting for space on the staff.
I remember a documentary about them where they showed the ladies were exactly one octave apart with their vocals which is where they get that perfect harmony. The odds of that are almost impossible.
Apart from the songwritting genius of the guys,Abba's vocal and visual chemistry is a category on their own. These 2 girls vocal blending was Out of this world.
ABBA - is the best popband in history! Their music is timeless and versitale, have got so many kind of styles. I am from Sweden, close to Gothenburg 🎉 My favoritesong with Abba is hard to choose - for the moment I think it is ”The Name Of The Game” or ”I’ve Been Waiting For You”. You can’t find a better storyteller than Agnetha and her heartbreaking voice in songs like ”My Love, My Life” S.O.S., The Winner Takes It All, Slippering Through My Fingers or One Of Us. Cheers!
I couldn't agree more and I have been asking for years why that line is so special. I even saw a video with Frida back stage (older) singing that line as others performed the song. It has affected me forever. Something about those notes. Thank you.

Being born in 1970, I literally grew up with ABBA , it also happens I like the music and have all of the albums. I remember a documentary, which was released around the time of the Mamma Mia musical, and of course Benny and Bjorn were going through the music , and as a result they voiced displeasure at how complicated they made things with the arrangements. In another documentary, it was noted by both Ladies that Benny and Bjorn, never told them what part of the vocal line to sing , but let them ( Ladies ) experiment, and it always seem to work out, but that obviously the boys had an idea of what sound and of course they new the vocal ranges to a tee..
@@alexioverdo5225 Yes, a reaction to her performance of 'En Ledig Dag' would be cool. 😀 But for now I wonder where her other three announced ABBA reactions are? 🤔
ABBA got their first international break through in Australia due to Ian "Molly" Meldrum (host of Australian music TV show Countdown) "discovering" them and promoting them in Australia and internationally. They have a cult following and soooooo many hits. No one actually admits they love them - they just do. Like the Bay City Rollers lol
Tenino, Washington 56, old enough to have heard ABBA debut all their songs on the radio. Fave song is the rocker, Does Your Mother Know?, followed by Mamma Mia. ABBA is the band that established the Swedish Pop sound. Pretty incredible success story!
Benny and Bjorn along with Tim Rice wrote the musical "Chess" in 1986. One Night in Bangkok got some radio ariplay, but others are just as good like Mountain Duet, Embassy Lament/Heaven Help My Heart, Anthem. I Know Him So Well, You and I/Epilogue
My wife was 7 or 8 years old and living in Italy (Air Force brat). She watched the performance of Waterloo and distinctly remembers them since they were the only band she heard that sang in English.
Thanks for the memories! I remember the disco's I went to when I was 16 and this song started playing everyone rushed to the dancefloor. Great days thank you! I went through all me teenage years listening to them. We had a lot of fun!
In the 1970s on NBC, Friday night at midnight central time was a show called Midnight Special. Rock stars would perform live on stage, but ABBA would send a music video. Thy were the first music videos I ever saw.
New subscriber so I'm a little late, but (1 - ABBA) - 56 year old retired Paramedic & a drummer since 1977 from NC. Dancing Queen is my all time favorite, especially that bass line (although I love all of their music). Add that 2 for having seen them live.
It’s been said , that when the group was in the studio as Benny and Bjorn was introducing the song to Agnetha and Frida , Frida began to cry when she read the lyrics, and Agnetha knew it would be the #1 worldwide smash that it was as they we’re recording it. ( of course they all knew!)
Actually, Benny came home with the background tape and played it for her, and she cried. Bjorn took a tape home but Agnetha was asleep so he took it to his sister, Eva.
ABBA is one of the greatest band ever. Their music is still better than today's music. Their music is timeless. From generation to another. And last, they are still better today than today's so called "music singers". In every level what you can think. Their music have melody, lyrics, rhytm, arrangement and singers' voices in perfect combination.
Hi Maggi e - to this song, as to almost all of Abba's songs, you dance the classic "disco fox" - something I danced a lot and enjoyed in those days and during my disco days. AND I met my wife through this dance.
Thank you so much for reacting to this. Though this song and style of music isn’t my taste, it does bring back wonderful memories of this time period of my life. ABBA was absolutely huge at this time. They are #8 in all-time record sales, selling 247 million albums. I am the same age of some of the kids on the dance floor in the video from 1977 (12-13-ish). Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, people got along better, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Our 4 adult children (29-33) are big fans of 70’s-80’s music like my wife and I are. It’s great, lol. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

My favorite ABBAsong is Winner Takes It All, of course it would be Dancing Queen, but Winner Takes It All is so musically brilliant and lyrically heartbreaking at the same time.
ABBA fan since the mid 70s. Listening from Michigan. Check out “I’ve Been Waiting For You” from ABBA as well as “Just Like That” sax version and tell me these aren’t some great singers. They harmonize beautifully.
People think of Benny and Bjorn as songwriters. They’re so much more than that… They are arrangers, comparable to Burt Bacharach… They have the unusual capacity to hear the music in their head, and find a way to make it a reality…
They opened the piano for the same reasons why every pianist opens the concert grand for concerts. It makes the sound louder and a little bit more 'open'. Another reason is that it is much easier to record or amplify the opened piano with microphones because you can place them just on the acoustically right spot. Every sound engeneer hates closed pianos or grand pianos. (OK, today we have Electric Pianos, but why do all the famous pianists use these old-fashioned normal concert grands???)

I can't believe that you didn't react to the version performed live at the Royal Swedish Opera House, you being an opera singer and all. :)
They opened the piano for the same reasons why every pianist opens the concert grand for concerts. It makes the sound louder and a little bit more 'open'. Another reason is that it is
much easier to record or amplify the opened piano with microphones because you can place them just on the acoustically right spot.
Every sound engeneer hates closed pianos or grand pianos. (OK, today we have Electric Pianos, but why do all the famous pianists use these old-fashioned normal concert grands???)
LoL remember it's just a number
