- After going undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft, winning 30 games in a season and becoming an NHL All-Star earlier in his career, Jonas Hiller disappeared from the NHL after the 14/15 season. The Swiss goaltender's vanishing act from the league certainly begs the question: whatever happened to Jonas Hiller? Watch to find out the answer!

Even though he had a rough ending of his NHL career, I think he was a very successful goalie and should be proud of himself
He only had one bad year in his 9 year NHL career and always kept the Ducks relevant and competitive every season he was there. Not bad for a guy that was passed over by every team in the draft if you ask me!

@@OddManRush that is absolutely correct, but he never played the same after his 2011 concussion/vertigo issues. He went from being within the top 2 or 3 goalies in the whole NHL to merely a decent minder. Of course ultimately it's injuries that doom most athletes in the long run.

Man, this video made me realize just how consistent Hiller was (excluding that last season, which i'm 100% willing to blame on the flames). The dude was an absolute workhorse!

Can't blame it on the goal tender all the time, over all he was a good tender for the ducks coming from a Hawks fan.
I feel Jonas Hiller was a goalie who never really got a fair shake. He was an exceptional back-up, solid starter on arguably terrible teams and usually had a winning record.
That 7 game series between the Ducks and Wings after the lockout was insane. Both Hiller and Howard made some game saving saves that series.

Always loved his goalie mask designs. Especially the all black one with gold Ducks logo on the forehead.
Not sure if I missed it but Hiller also came close to setting a record of most shots taken in in a single playoff series. Curtis Joseph is #1 with 277 Jonas Hiller is #2 with 274 and Oettinger joined the list last night with his incredible performance #3 with 272. Somewhat obscure but still quite interesting, they showed that stat in the game and it is what made me curious to learn more about Hiller
He’s also number 2 on the list of the highest playoff save percentages. Right behind Tim Thomas

nothing much, he played for SHL, Anaheim signed him, he moved to edmonton for two seasons which totalled three seasons, he then started playing for CSKA moskva in the KHL for two seasons, and now he is playing for växjö lakers in SHL again

He really liked Koho equipment.
If he grew up in either Canada or the US he would've likely been more highly touted and had a better NHL career. He doesn't get to the NHL until 25. Say he was North American, he would've made it at 20 or 21 meaning instead of a 9 year career he would've had a 13 or 14 year career instead and we might be talking about him as a hall of famer. With that being said, I think there is a correlation between both Mark Streit and Hiller's career and the increase in popularity in the game in Switzerland (and their unbelievable performance in last year's World Hockey Championships). In turn, we now have the greatest number of Swiss NHLers in history so hopefully his career will be remembered for bringing the country into the radar of NHL scouts.
I remember when the ducks mangled the sharks in the first round they were calling him "Jonas Hiller the Shark Killer"
So many international players are NHL level talents. DEL, National League, SHL, KHL etc. all have top talents.

Jonas Hiller is one of the best here in Switzerland, very solid and fast.
A great goalie and awesome human being whose career was neutered prematurely due to that 2011 concussion that he never really bounced back from--a true shame. With a prime Hiller in net the Ducks almost certainly get another Cup by 2015.

He was so fun to watch. For literally being passed up by every team in the league, what he did was amazing and it's too bad he couldn't win a cup.
and then you have people like Corey Crawford, or Anti Niemi, who won cups. i bet someone somewhere would make the argument that Niemi is a better goalie than Hiller.
