I've already had to start a list for my January No Buy of things that I thought of that I think I need to buy. I'll just keep putting the items on there and then in February, I'll examine the list and see if I still think that I need the item. Having the list gets the item out of my headspace.
This is great! My brother in law passed away this summer, and I inherited a lot of his jeans for quiling and sewing projects. I decided to make my two nephews memory quilts from their dad's jeans. One of the nephews is quite flamboyant, so Tula, Kaffe, or any eye-popping fabric will work. His older brother is pretty much the opposite and a hunter; so I will be looking into outdoorsy types of accent fabric. Now, to figure my fabric size requirements! Thanks again ❤
I like simple blocks for scrap busting. And the center blocks all same or similar dark or light fabric with outer blocks the opposite. And sewing blocks together as 4 patches as you go. Great video for starting the year.
Watching you, my gears are turning in my head. I'd be web piecing 2 x #of blocks of strips of 3, and 2 x # of blocks of strips of 5. Then sew the 3s to each top of block, chain piecing, 3s to bottoms, cut apart, 5s to tops, 5s to bottoms. I'm old and have been quilting a long time and am always thinking of how to be more efficient in everything that I do. Thank you for the video!
Good morning ☕ 😊 Oh I love this! I'm ready to start some new projects as soon as I get my studio cleaned up from the last 3 that I finished yesterday so this is perfect!❤ Have a great week!😊
I LOVE this quilt block! With all of them sewn together, you'll get a great quilt. I'm going to make this quilt; hopefully, it will put a dent in my Mt Scrapmore 😆 Many thanks for a fun video. ❤
This is the kind of project I enjoy making. Love scrap, stash busting projects. I have lots of both. We could do this kind of project all year long. Maybe a new one each month.
New sub here. Love this block/quilt! I have countless 2 1/2” and a strip box full of jelly roll strips. Also have yardage that could be a center block. I’m definitely looking at projects where I can dig in and use up what’s there. I have too many odds and ends of fabric to run out and buy new right now
Welcome! I love that you’re making use of your stash! This will be perfect for your squares. I’ll be having another 2 1/2” strip project in a short while.
This is a great inspiration for all of the scraps I have sitting in my closet. I could even see using a light colored center fabric and having family members or class reunion people write messages. I also have many scrappy pieced blocks. Good plan for no buy January. Thank you.
I have a huge box of 2.5” squares just like you. I also cut my leftovers up after completing a project. A couple years ago I made Pat Sloans “Traffic Jam” pattern with them. It’s time I used some up. Guess I will jump on board and sew along with you!
My first time on your channel and I’m hooked. Only problem is I’ve already spent a lot of $$ at the fabric/quilt shops this month. Guess I’ll try harder next month on that! I really like this scrap block it’s cute. I appreciate your tip on the Michael’s boxes. They’re even on sale now. Will be a loyal viewer.
Wow Sherri, this is so darned cute. Thanks for showing so many sewn together as it’s so much easier to envision a quilt when projects are presented this way as opposed to just a block or two at the end. I appreciate the extra effort. ❤
Love this Sherri! I've been gathering my 2.5 inch squares and am ready to start! I'm going to start with a 60 x 70 inch quilt as a donation quilt. I'm also with you on the no-buy January! Glad to have the company.
Good morning of the New Year. And I’m enjoying it with a cup of tea in my new Yeti cup. So in love with it as no longer have to keep warming up my delicious teas. ( Treat myself to Harney and Sons wonderful varieties.) Checking to see if any others are going for a No Buy Year??? I finished my Quilting Road Map for 2025 two days ago. I start by asking myself, What makes me happy for 2025? In addition to 4 gift quilts I already have self kitted up here, I have a bunch of unfinished quilts I really, really want to finish. If I run into a possible border or binding I may need….. I’m OK with buying fabric. And I’m hoping to sneak in 1-2 baby quilts for donations. Back to your video and love the idea of using a grunge for the center. Hugs from Maine and sending my heartfelt thoughts and wishes for a wonderful blessed year. Back to ironing this backing for a great grandsons upcoming birthday as it’s his first year in college so special quilt for his dorm room. I named it Dream Big.
I made this quilt several years ago. I used a focus fabric for the 6 1/2" squares and used complementary fabrics for the 2 1/2" squares. I also added another row of 2 1/2" squares to all the outsides.
Happy New Year to you, Mark & Blue! Love the scrap block today. Thanks for doing the math too. Math is not my favorite thing to do. I have been known to buy bolts of fabric if it talks to me. See you Friday!
Thank you for this video. I have a lot of black and white fabric that I will use for this project. I have to check my fabrics to see what I can use for the center square. I can’t wait to share this with you on finish it Fridays. (Oh boy now I am committed). Lol
Happy new year all. I love the block. Will keep it in mind I'm sure for the next few days as I'm starting Just get it done Quilts Jan challenge 21 days! Shari you always keep us inspired ! Ty💞
Love this scrap busting block. I have a whole bin of 2 1/2" squares. Thank you so much for sharing the options and giving us the measurements. You are so thoughtful and generous.
Happy New Year Sheri. Thank you for sharing the great block idea I’m going to try real hard for a no buy January. However , there are 2 lines of fabric that I keep waiting for to go on sale. I have a room of fabric already so I need to get going on something like this.
Happy New Year hope it's great for you Thank you so much for the wonderfully detailed and informative video. I learned a lot about color choices and look forward to making this block.
Love this idea…it would bust my 2.5 inch scraps…i think ill put a quilt like this or the 16 patch on my list of to dos…love your scraps! Theyre cute! Love that cute4 square block!
I made this same pattern using my husband's old jeans for the center and scraps. I wish there was a way to publish a photo. My inspiration was the same post you were talking about!
Thank you for creating this excellent video tutorial. I enjoyed it very much! Your calm, gentle instructions help me understand the construction process. As a beginner, I really would love to get started and create something like this lovely quilt. I just need to get my craft area organized. Working on that goal. Thank you for the inspiration! 💕
This is great inspiration. I have a bin of 2-1/2" squares - I routinely cut those along with a couple of other sizes when I'm finished with a project. I have a lot of fabric I could use for the centers, including Grunge, so I can put a real dent in my scraps!
This is great. Love the idea of using old denim as the centers. Thanks. I’m going to use this (2 1/2 squares) as my leader/ender project while working on other things.
Good morning Sherri. Happy New Year to you and Mark and baby blue. Very nice design. Will make a beautiful quiltalong. Yesterday I actually started working on the 16patch... I could do both with no pressure. Doing either when i I feel up to it. No stress. Have a great day. Hugs
This seems like a good one for me to get started on as I have lots of "hoarder" fabric. lol I certainly need to be in a no spend zone for quite some time. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much for such a great project. I do use my 2 1/2 squares as leaders and ends when I’m sewing with my featherweights. I’m definitely gonna go back to it because I have about four already connected so I just gotta finish it up.
Great way to use up my scraps! I think I’ll do quilt as you go and use my embroidery machine to do a design on the center block. Thanks for the idea, great video! Happy New Year 🎉
I'm starting my first stash busting quilt today at Sew In day at my Sew Yeah. What a great start for the new year it will be. I'm going to be working on a disappearing pinwheel block for this one. These will be my Alaska quilt drive quilts. Happy New Years all.
Greetings from Canada Sherri and Happy New Year. What a great way to start the new year. I love this idea and I also have a bin of 2 1/2 " squares just sitting there waiting to go into action. This will definitely be on my bucket list for 2025. Looking forward to more great ideas like this one. ❤

Perfect use for the denim!
This is just what’s needed after a very busy holiday season! Some simple sewing to have a beautiful stash busting quilt!
It is the perfect time to do some easy stitching!
Great block. Can't wait to start this quilt! Thanks for sharing.
I hope you love it!
I’m ready for no buy January. Love the scrap buster.
I like simple blocks for scrap busting. And the center blocks all same or similar dark or light fabric with outer blocks the opposite. And sewing blocks together as 4 patches as you go. Great video for starting the year.
I love this block. I made a lap quilt out of these blocks recently. I used a light center but I like the dark one as well.
I like the light dot grunge for the center block. It makes the variety of scraps pop.❤

That’s what I love about scraps, so many possibilities!
Saving on our hobby is something that is becoming more and more important so we can still enjoy making without too much guilt. Thank you.
Sew the Distance made a smaller version of this block 1 year ago. They are both beautiful blocks.
I’m sure it’s been done before in all the different size possibilities.
I have a huge box of 2.5” squares just like you. I also cut my leftovers up after completing a project. A couple years ago I made Pat Sloans “Traffic Jam” pattern with them. It’s time I used some up. Guess I will jump on board and sew along with you!

How about that! I have made this for my son, dreamed it up myself! I didn't know that it was on Pinterest! Wow!
Wonderful video. I appreciate all the suggestions for the center block and reminding us to use what we have. Thank you.
So lovely, so excited to start stitching up my stash ❤
I'm going to do this. I think adding the center fabric in the corners would have been great too.
I’m sure it would look great!
