Sten Ekberg is quite right to describe these bad foods as dangerous. Eating a lifetime of high carbs, sugar and starch has I think caused some irreversible damage to my body which cannot be reversed.

The dangers may not be imminent, but they are pernicious. A lifetime of bad eating habits can shorten a human lifetime many years, even for someone who cleans up their habits later in life. Fried foods should be fine when fried in tallow or lard. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" was a marketing slogan for the Kellogg company. It doesn't say why it is so important or for whom. In fact, it's very important to the company because that's when they sell product. Species of animals that routinely eat fruits have a high tolerance to alcohol. Some even get enough alcohol in their regular diet and metabolize it so easily that it may be considered a fourth macro-nutrient. In humans alcohol is a toxin. This is more evidence that humans should be eating a meat-based diet with little or no plants.
I had potassium deficiency, I even had nocturia. I figured it out. Now I'm OK after eating lots of liver and some fruits. My doctor advised to eat vegetables today. Even a doctor doesn't know the mineral content of meat. Nowadays my go to meal is 5 eggs with 1/2kg of beef liver. Here beef liver is priced the same as oats & rice, 1kg is less than $2. You get around 1050 calories and 140 gramms of protein. It's vitamin and mineral content is underrated.
I like both this channel and Dr. Ekberg. IMO people would be wise to watch quite of few videos from all sorts of sources and not take anything as "the gospel". Anyway, for myself I took a hard look at my "weakness" and eliminated alcohol and added sugar/sugar drinks. I used to be pretty strict Keto but I retired to Thailand from the US and I opened up my diet some to enjoy the local food. Do the best you can rings true to me, and it was pretty easy to eliminate and justify demonizing alcohol and sugar and include a limited amount of noodles and rice in my diet. Cheers.
I hate touting kitchen gadgets but there is one that helped me with cravings.. Ninja Cremi. It makes ice cream backwards by pulverizing ice crystals rather than preventing their formation as with traditional ice cream. This allows me to make smooth frozen treats using the same stuff I eat anyway like protein powders, eggs, whipping cream, allulose, etc. I learned too late about dangers of sugar and lost my teeth (don't get me started on my experiences with unaffordable Modern Dentistry) so my meals have to be on the soft side so the gadget really is useful along with pressure cookers and the like as I can no longer have a proper steak, chop, or fresh crunchy veggies anymore. Too many sugar laden sodas did me in. Oddly enough, that topic was presented in a confused manner by Dr. Westman. Dr. Sten only got to say a few words on it before Dr. Eric went sideways about artificial sweeteners. While I can see his point, there was no proper lead-in and it cannot be stressed enough the danger of all the full sugar drinks my generation was practically raised on. Gallons of Mountain Dew a day. THAT'S what Dr. Sten wanted to get across.
So, by your logic, we shouldn't call smoking dangerous, either? After all, it takes years of smoking to cause disease, and some people can smoke their whole lives and not have any issues.
The problem here is that everyone knows smoking is bad, but many think all these foods will be healthy as long as you moderate them. You should never eat them at all.
Maybe we don’t have proper randomised controlled studies about sugary drinks, but aren’t we more certain about spikes in blood sugar, causing spikes in insulin, and harm? If so, then why can’t we be just as certain about the harms of sugary drinks? Wearing a CGM will help an individual understand the individual harm they are exposed to
Doc, you are so wrong about a few things in this video including the use of the oils that's mentioned and continually refused those types are extremely bad for human health especially used for years/ lifetimes. Do you really think that only sugar is turned into glucose? Seriously or did you just say the inconvenient term missing off carbs and starches that always turn into Glucose in the body, highly raises glucose too high, causes high insulin to lower it and over years makes you diabetic. Come on Doc. Be more precise please. This is the worst medically covered items that I've ever heard you use.
1:261:29 I love Dr Westman he has saved lives over and over again at Duke University however he's dealing with people that are four five six hundred pounds that have no control and are completely addicted to certain foods I understand why he needs a nuanced to approach to get these people on the right track. In this instance I lean towards Dr Ekberg a little bit. First of all I do believe alcohol does get converted to sugar in your body. Having seen the epidemic proportions of obesity in my community here in Hawaii and amongst people that I know personally I agree in the strong wording of some of these topics as dangerous.... I don't think you can tell an addict that it's okay to have a little sugar the same way you wouldn't tell a heroin addict he can have a little heroin I guess artificial sweeteners are kind of the methadone of the drug like plant Foods I don't think Dr eckberg necessarily is seeking more money but more clicks is a way of helping more people and I believe the discipline approach is the only way to seriously help people in this way I have kept myself on the straight and narrow by labeling certain foods dangerous myself people have to look at themselves and reference to the words if everything is relative and say look in my condition eating refined grains is absolutely dangerous. In this regard I agree with Dr EK Bruce assessments
I agree. If people had the discipline and knowledge, that they have been engineered into an unhealthy lifestyle, they wouldn't need the hyperbole to shake them up. Many folks need the crack of a whip to get their attention.
Well for me the grains and starches are dangerous. I’m an addict and they make me fat very quickly and at 63, only multiple metabolic disease would be my future. I won’t touch them ever. Maybe they don’t kill me in 10 years, but my quality of life would not be suitable to me.
Doctor.. the point you make about fried foods.. that seed oils are not as bad as what Carnivores and other people recommend staying away from.. it should not be accepted in any manner. I now question other aspects you accept.
Dr Westman is not as well informed as he likes to think. I came to realize this after his ridiculous LMNT video where he tried to justify the addition of Maltodextrin to the product. It just so happens that LMNT sponsors Dr Westman. Very disappointing.

I have diabetes; when I eat meat, and dairy, my fasting morning blood sugar level is around 7, and healthy 5- 5.9 2 hours after eating. It takes piece of French bread to take me to 12 2hours after eating it. (And could be more as I don’t measure constantly) So there is that, I reckon even healthy person has spikes he doesn’t notice, and it damages his body over time.
Yes , I don't have diabetes but I do get inflammation and reflux from eating too high carbs like bread or pasta. So it def effects us even if we don't have something diagnosis , the body still reacts
@ you are on point, inflammation is from carbs. For couple of years I didn’t know I had elevated blood sugar, but was sure that my body was inflamed. Yet I didn’t connect this to carbs. Now I know. All the problems are gone when I eat nearly no carbs.
I'm with Sten on the seed oil thing. Go ahead and fry with beef tallow or lard simply because they can handle a higher heat, likely won't smoke and aren't processed in the same way as seed oils. If you really want to know how bad a seed oi is then brush it on a hot Grill; mmmm smell that plastic.
I have found a lot of speakers defending their personal vices online, thanks for being careful to admit possible bias on alcohol, but as someone who still does not know what caused my hepatic steatosis, despite a lifetime of health no alcohol and no sweet food conscious eating, we can't assume we know the cause of this MAFLD epidemic, and as we also have many plausible explanations in the metabolism chains, we need to keep alcohol and fructose on the obvious bad list for liver and other metabolism syndrome patients. We know that fructose and alcohol can be causing liver issues, and I think we are missing other causes, too, but I would agree that alcohol and sugar are dangerous for anyone over 50, and we should not be playing so close to the cliff on that.
When crops are drenched in glyphosate then yes it's dangerous! I don't believe he uses words to just get the views and clicks....some people need to hear the truth....and pay attention.

Cheers.
Exactly right. Keeping an open mind instead of being a one-source disciple is always a good idea!
no. this channel is strictly reserved for dogmatic extremist Ketoan Cultists. heretics are not welcome here.
Interesting point!
Totally off topic.
I get your point, although it can quickly cause respiratory problems and others.
The problem here is that everyone knows smoking is bad, but many think all these foods will be healthy as long as you moderate them. You should never eat them at all.
@erics320 its like saying "drugs are ok in moderation" which is true in some situations, but then addiction exists.
For me, wheat is downright dangerous.
Maybe we don’t have proper randomised controlled studies about sugary drinks, but aren’t we more certain about spikes in blood sugar, causing spikes in insulin, and harm? If so, then why can’t we be just as certain about the harms of sugary drinks? Wearing a CGM will help an individual understand the individual harm they are exposed to
Thank you, Dr Westman.
In my country Malaysia, we fry food using palm oil.
1:26 1:29 I love Dr Westman he has saved lives over and over again at Duke University however he's dealing with people that are four five six hundred pounds that have no control and are completely addicted to certain foods I understand why he needs a nuanced to approach to get these people on the right track.
I haven't met anybody doing a no-carb diet who hasn't felt better by dropping all carbs. Carbs are sugar!
I ate today loads of meat and sauerkraut and kiwi and raw carrots …. I know it’s not carnivore not even keto . Going into 3 day fast. Wish me luck 🎉
What us your opinion of low sodium V8 juice?
i think you're interpreting "dangerous" as Immediate Danger.
Yes, I have had *many* health issues go away or at least be mitigated by going low-carb and then keto.
Yup, catching rifle bullets is more unhealthy than eating grains. I try to avoid both.
Stopped all gluten products and yes all symptoms ceased!
Dr. Westman, What is your opinion on "keto" sugars? Can you break down what you think is acceptable and not.
Thanks Eric ❤
Doctor.. the point you make about fried foods.. that seed oils are not as bad as what Carnivores and other people recommend staying away from.. it should not be accepted in any manner. I now question other aspects you accept.
Dr Westman is not as well informed as he likes to think. I came to realize this after his ridiculous LMNT video where he tried to justify the addition of Maltodextrin to the product. It just so happens that LMNT sponsors Dr Westman. Very disappointing.
@@ronoldow.6438 Wow.. that is sad.. he is also bought.
I agree with Dr Ekberg 😊

Is the new diabetic society or any of the low car docs planning on appearing at the HHS to comment on the 2025 dietary guidelines and should we as the public send in our success stories on keto or is HHS and FDA a lost cause entirely. Thanks for everything that you do. You've changed my life.
Unless Trump/RFK step in with executive change you can rest assured that the dietary guidelines will stay under the firm thumb of the food industry, thanks to lobbying. Yes the decision-makers might be moved by speeches but they still have to vote the way they've been told (paid) to vote. We've already seen this play out before.
You did the same thing that you are criticizing; used the work DANGEROUS in CAPS in you thumbnail.
yes
I'd recommend concerning yourself less with Eckberg's word choices and focus more on making your own presentation style & delivery a little more lively and engaging.
Texas Ice Tea is like Sugar Syrup .
Is a fibroscan something you would do if I became one of your patients?
One comment you made really hit me. That is, if you can limit your intake of things like ice cream or chocolate, then it might be okay. That was always my problem, that I could not limit it. So for 12 months I cut out almost all carbs. At the most ketovore. As I try to add things in, I realized why I had to cut them out. 😂
hello, spain and france have the lowest rates of heart attacks and diabetes. they eat a lot of sugar and white flour products, a lot of cheese, meat and french fries, they often drink alcohol and do little sport, please explain this to me
Underreporting
@@Alex-d2n1f The French have been eating like this for centuries, they cook for themselves and are more relaxed, there is hardly any genetically modified food, they buy the best quality, that's what I know
They eat more animal fats, eat less seed oils, and have fewer chemicals in their food supply.
@@heartlesswizardI think the seed oils are the problem because they are so oft eaten with the foods you carnivores consider to be the problem
i will guess it is cause their total calorie intake is not as high.
This stuff is amazing. 3 c cottage cheese (i like daisy because relatively clean and simple ingredients), 1/2 c peanut butter, 3/8 c allulose, 1/2 tsp vanilla. Blend all together. You'll thank me later
Dr. West man can you explain the work of Dr. Kempler at at Duke University using only rice and fruit?
he also used a riding crop. to whip non-compliant patients. sounds legit.
Watching this while eating cosco tuxedo cake😂. Followed low carb keto for a while n lose a lot of weight but its not sustainable. So tracking macros n enjoying everything in moderation with strength training and its sustainable n not gaining fat.

Thank you Dr. Westman. This was a very good video. I have gotten to the place where I will only listen to you, Amy Berger and Jason Fung. You give us the facts and don't try to scare us.
Dr Westman takes too critical a tone in most of his reaction videos. Why do these? What is the point? It is like he has a “chip on his shoulder”.
He's trying to get clicks, and he makes himself look foolish in the process.
By the way, in this case, save us from your word salad.

I appreciate W's relaxed approach to keto that's limited by where you are in achieving your goals & by the limits of your self-control w certain "red light" foods (as we used to call them in WW). It is unfortunate that spirits are calorie laden, so careful out there friends🥂. Remember it's going to take more than giving up carbs to lose weight & it ain't going to be easy. You have to be hungry to not-satisfied. Just the way it is. There is no magical loss of appetite. A diet is a diet is a diet. Best luck to y'all🍀
If you cut the carbs you will lose weight. However, Dr Westman is misinformed about seed oils. They are DANGEROUS.
Listen to Bart Kay

Let's not become language police but instead critique the substance of what Dr Ekberg is saying because he is giving great nutritional information - and I am surprised by your 'nuanced' rejection of the danger of seed oils quite frankly!
I'm surprised by Dr Westman's reaction to seed oils too. I think he has his blinders on regarding seed oils. I'm not sure why, but it's very disappointing, and it's a good way to lose credibility.
I think you are doing a great disservice and you just lost a lot of credibility on the seed oils comments. I think you need to educate yourself on them
What about low carb bread one car per slice
Is that "one per slide" net carbs or total carbs? I believe Dr. Westman counsels to go by total carbs and not net
Low carb breads are all garbage ultra-processed foods. Read the ingredients list to be sure. Also net carbs are lie just to sell keto products containing carbs and counting net carbs doesn't work for everyone.
Read the ingredients list. Almost all low carb breads and many regular breads qualify as u11ra pr0c3ssed fo0ds.
Stay way from UPFs like low net carb bread.
