I wound up watching the full comp online live, not just the ten minutes that made it on the broadcast. I saw the semis, and the finals all the way through. TBH, I became an instant fan of Brooke's that night, but also of the sport as well. I liked the vibe of the whole contest, and thought it was a good show. I kept watching the world cup events online all throughout the season, and got hooked as a fan of the sport. I started watching some of the various climbing channels, such as Marcus Midbo and a few others (his freeclimb with Alex H. blew my mind!). As I said, Brooke (and Janja, and Natalie and the others) drew me into the sport, and as I learned a bit about her I learned about her family. I wondered about her brother, since we don't see him in the comps. RUclips, in the infinite wisdom of the algorithm, served up a few of Shawn's outdoor bouldering videos along the way. I saw him in a video with Marcus a few weeks back, and thought he was a really cool guy; as well as amazing to watch. Not long after that, Shawn started his own channel and I subscribed right away. I'm 57, and go about 300lb, so I'm not taking up climbing anytime soon; but I'm hooked on watching the sport. There are a lot of cool people to root for, and I can't take my eyes off it. I'm starting to feel like I have an idea how they do it, I just don't know where they get the radioactive spiders.
Having tarped up a few boulders myself in my days, I can very much respect your skill at creating such a nice tarp-house around the boulder. Definitely impressed by your tarping.

Yes. It is crazy, but it also set's some precedence. I only wait when the land owner realizes the gem on his property. Forestry, boulders. If nobody ever is willing to pay for use of roads (that will need some fixing eventually), or local moose-hunting society to be careful with a shooting sectors... No, don't get me wrong. But did Nalle or anyone "officially" ever pointed the purpose and use of that boulder particularly? I mean, did anybody informed the master and owner of the lands, why there is continuous stream of visitors on his property? That itself is irrelevent as we have Every-men-rights here in Finland. I only ask, that does people think anything when it was apparent the forest around the burden was felled about 20 years before it was ready for the timber. And it all was gone all the same. Why? PR problem? No worries, after some 5-10 years there will grow some bushes. Lol. Before that, the grudged Landowner may legally just blow out the Burden, and nobody won't accuse him, legally. Think about that, when coming here to project. Ask even, if its ok.
@@TristanCleveland Hes american, so its -25 celsius. But Finland usually doesnt go that low, so I think that was Celsius. Dont forget that Burden is out in the open, so with wind it can easily feel like -15°C.
Fun fact from a Finnish geologist: the rock type (rapakivi granite) was generated in a magma chamber of a Yellowstone-like supervolcano about 1.6 billion years ago.

I have not been able to do a detailed geological analysis of the holds. :) Granite as a whole erodes quite slowly, but this rapakivi variety could turn to rubble faster than other granites, maybe in a few thousand or even few hundred years. Depends on the internal structure, amount of cracks etc.

If it wasn't for the title, I'd have guessed this might be the send already. And even with the title I still got super excited with the last tries since it looked like it could actually go! Mad respect for you Shawn, to actually come here IN THE WINTER to project one of the hardest lines ever O_o And the attitude is pure gold. I'm in awe of this man.
My skin is quite dry and hard, and I used to get splits like that. I would lightly tape over the split between sessions. I found it would keep the skin around the split softer, so that moving my finger wouldn't keep the split open. They healed up faster that way.
I've seen a few videos of you doing amazing things, and I was impressed. I think this is the second video I've seen of you working on this project, and it's really cool to see what goes into it. I'm amazed how much planning, and trial & error, goes into literally every finger placement and shift of balance or weight. It's also cool to see how much you enjoy the journey of getting there, not just the glory moment of topping it.
You will get there one day since the path has been shown. After you have figured this puzzle out I will go and do it too....first spending a couple hours masoning some steps on the side of it.
This is like professional skater levels of dedication to a send. Putting up that tarp and going out in the Finnish winter knowing damn well you may not send it this season is insane. I cannot even understand the mental fortitude it takes to do that. Absurd stuff

It's incredible how hard these individual moves look and feel. And no matter if the grade is confirmed in the end or not - imagine the difficulty of e. g. Alphane shrinked into 5 moves.
