A super group before it was a thing. We played this album endlessly when it came out back in the day. Sykes never got the recognition he deserved as a guitarist and as vocalist
Not so much, any more, of a debut album. More of an "only album". Rumour has it that Sykes is locked into some kind of lifetime contract where it's not worth doing anything else- probably got stitched up by Coverdale.
This phenomenal band suffered the tragedy of poor timing as the scene turned to grunge... John Sykes should be a household name for any fan of Rock/Metal. The best guitarist/vocalist combo in history.
The Blue Murder album is truly an all around incredible release! Everything from the writing to the production absolutely kills, not to mention the fkng guitars! To your point, the timing wasn't ideal and the record label botched the marketing so sales suffered greatly. I'd put the debut album up against Whitesnake '87 any day. Another harsh reality is that David Coverdale fired Sykes and the rest of the band that recorded the smash hit WS '87,so fir all the casual fan knows it was Viv Campbell and Adrian Vandenberg who played on the album since they did the touring. Had John done that tour he'd have gotten the widespread exposure he'd earned IMO.
Doing so well in Whitesnake and then all the work going in to the Blue Murder Album it's amazing things didn't continue. Music changes but still even Metalicca are going to this day and even others making a comeback. I don't know too much about the other members except Phil Lynott (thin Lizzy) was part of original line up. But used to have this song on cassette 😀 many yrs ago. John has great talent to play rythm and lead guitar and sing flawlessly
Saw them twice on this tour. Boston & Fort Lauderdale. Two of my favorite shows of all time & had the pleasure of meeting John in Boston. Great memories…
This guy is just endless talent. Gives you goosebumps…..talk about a guy robbed of his time in the global rock limelight. Underrated is such a gross understatement. And sadly by 2023 we ask wheres John James Sykes. What an incredible legend.
Sykes should have been MASSIVE, In my eyes he is I just wish he had gone solo years earlier. Come back John the world is missing you and needs you. Please!!!
I think that's the key. He should have gone solo years before. I know Phil Lynott appreciated him, but I don't think who he worked with after had his best interests in mind.
Bravo to the Fan who snuck an over size VHS camcorder in to this concert... So we can Enjoy this Great Performance of one of the Best & Underrated Bands Ever... \m/ \m/
That was overwhelming. Three guys and the world's best talent gathered on one stage. The band did not get the recognition it deserved. The real deal. Old school on how it was done back in the day. Like watching the Oplimics of the best of the best back in the day. Stands the test of time quality-wise. Well done lads. Hope you read this as you venture RUclips during your off-hours.
Phenomenal band !!! John Sykes is a incredibly , stoning guitar player and singer too . Tony Franklin is a beast bass player ! Carmine Appice is absolutely fantastic on drums ! This performance was just EPIC !!!
I saw them open for Bon Jovi and they sounded HUGE! Didn’t even stay for all of Bon Jovi. Left early and hit the Blue Murder merch stand. Bought their album and a shirt. I had never heard of them before the show. That’s how blown away I was with them.
Blue Murder, was just a kid living in My Beloved ISRAEL listening to these Monsters of Rock N Roll, I'm BACK, BLUE MURDER, TIME TO COME BACKKKKKKKK🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱
Thank you so much for this share. I absolutely love this recording. The killer tone of Sykes guitar, his amazing soulfull vocals at the top of his range, it is really the best version of Valley Of The Kings. And speaking of a Tony Martin composition, I guess he´s also has a hand in writting Out Of Love because the melodies remind me so much of his work in Eternal Idol and Tyr albums.
Come to think of it, I was with the school's football team in Cairo, listening to Blue Murder and getting our behinds THRASHED by the American School there, amazing and wonderful days that I sorely miss with all that's left of my heart
Blue Murder still ranks way above other rock bands. They carved their own place among the greatest bands of their time. All of them exceptionally gifted musicians. John Sykes is truly a trailblazer 💥☄️
Damn, this is about as good as it gets. How this guy isn't a household name of 80's guitar greats is stupefying. Great voice too. Looks like he had the having too much of everything curse and he got HATED on big time. Coverdale had two GREAT guitarists (Campbell/Vandenberg) replace him and they both in tandem could't come close to Sykes. Another 80's guy overshadowed by a frontman is Richie Sambora. Really versatile guitarist with a great singing voice that can do the quasi-shred stuff but also play with feeling.
I saw him on that Metal Show with Mike Portnoy about twelve years ago. They said they were going to start a band together. I wonder if it was Winery Dogs. Wonder what happened with that?
That dude just flat out owned the stage!!Sang his ass off and when he starts getting nuts on the guitar his feel and sense of timing is as natural as breathing!!No wonder David Coverdale wanted to get rid of him he’s as good if not better than DC and DC would have to be on top of his shit if he wanted to match Sykes as far as energy, talent etc!!
Sykes just rips here…but who’s the keyboardist? Very prominent in the mix but not even mentioned in the description, yet there he is completely in the dark not even on the stage. Absolutely pathetic!!!
Syke's is fantastic, his voice, guitar... but when I hear that outdated keyboard...it wreaks of the 80's! What a shame, it's so dated... It jst. blows it for me when I hear those typical, "80's, preset, keyboard sounds"... it ruins it!
The decision to make Sykes front this instead of Gillen is one of the worst rock n metal decisions out there. John is MORE than capable but let the guitarist shine doing guitar work. What a tragedy this all is.
@@tarekwayne9193 🤷♂️ I see it differently. Yeah he can do both, but a front man does front man stuff and an amazing guitar does amazing guitarist stuff. He’s a master at both realms but one thing ends up suffering.

This was such a cool fucking band. Did another album and Sykes fell off the face of the earth. John. Where the hell are you bro. Rock n roll needs you
He went to White Snake

That tone man... John is amazing
John Sykes is not only great guitarist but also great vocalist.
Exceptional composer!
I like how he adapted the really high vocal lines to something a bit more manageable while still sounding great. Exceptional talent
Most underrated debut album ever. Hands down. Damnit this is awesome

Man, isn’t that the absolute truth. You are spot on!

Holy Shit the TONE on this recording!!!
Pure Legend. What a band!
I saw this band in Toronto. A mid sized bar called Rock and Roll Heaven. 10 ft. From Sykes. One of the best nights of my life!
I’m so jelly
I was at the Heaven concert!! Such a small venue. Great sound.
I was front row when they opened for Bon Jovi. Absolutely blown away by Sykes!
Wow!!! No easy task playing lead and singing full voice at the same time....Sykes....are very talented guy!!!!
It sure is!!!! Man he's good!
Just mindblowing and incredible, no other words.
This footage is a gem 💎. Killer band that unjustly never got the chance or credit they deserved.
Wish I had seen these guys live - incredible
Well, I've pretty much seen them all.
John is one of two performers that actually make me just stop and basically gawp.
Epic musician.
Sykes is KING!
I missed this live show. but this record will always be in my top 5.

Truly criminal Sykes didn't get more credit for his talent. Last I knew he was working at a grocery store in England somewhere.
Nope Master is LA playing some times.small clubs❤❤
Ok I think I get it now. Coverdale couldnt have Sykes in Whitesnake cause Sykes would have put him out of a job?
