truffles and mung are the only example i can think of where the “i hate my wife/husband” old couple gag is actually enjoyable because of the sheer over the topness of them and the whole show
It’s helped that they had scenes depicting them showing their genuine love for each other! Really gets the point across about how messy love is, and I think that’s the point of them.
Yeah, and they’re constantly getting mauled anyway so violence isn’t a huge deal. I thing Mung once claimed hide nose fell off every episode-

I think not being able to curse makes you have to use more varied insults.
Too many scripts for "adult shows" rely on long rants interspersed with "fuck" and "shit" everywhere. Not quick roasts. The ones that have censorship restraints end up having to be more creative.

No kidding it's like they're afraid they might offend somebody. I can understand why, but people really do need to chill not everyone is out to get anyone or trying to hurt someone's feelings.

Besides, it's good comedy. If anything, the parents need to make sure their kids know better, half the time kids do now better. So it's not always the fault of cartoons it's the fault of parents not teaching their kids to know what's OK to say, and what isn't OK to say, and when and how to say it, and especially whom to say it to.

@@nikodem123asdf true, thankfully, my parents were able to teach me to know better… Meaning know when, how, and who to say those insults to. They didn't stop me from doing it but as long as I let people know that I don't really mean it and I'm just playing then no harm done… Unless they really deserve it.
Besides that it's supposed to be comedic and it's not like adult shows don't do it too. I know that's an excuse, but you have to admit one way or another adults find ways to insult each other with her without cartoons; personally, the cartoon way seems funnier than the adult way, which would involve something a little personal that really would insult somebody; case in point: racism
I'm not saying you're wrong, because God knows I've done it too. I'm just saying as adults we just need to make sure kids don't take cartoons too seriously… Then again, adult sitcoms, don't exactly help either. Because I've seen a few adults insult people using insults coming from those shows anyway, case in point seinfield, friends, meet the Browns, Moesha, etc.

@@ootfan7882 To me, this isn’t really a “time period” specific phrase, and is more of how some people pronounce certain words/syllables in certain sentences.
This to me (again) sounds like it was a part of an “AAVE fab”, where phrases from African American Vernacular English (a recognized dialect of the English language primarily spoken by African Americans) makes it into what is more commonly considered “regular speech” (no matter how regular the speech is to people who either are African American such as myself, or who grew up around African Americans). The newest “fab” to be used by the wider population is “chile”, which is how many African Americans pronounce “child”, typically used in a jovial manner.
Even the word “dat” can still be heard being used by the black community depending on the context of the conversation. If this were a spoken conversation in the same “semi-formal” style I have it typed in, I would pronounce “that” as “that” with the “th”. However, if this is a more casual conversation I’m having with someone like a family member, then I would most likely pronounce “that” as “dat”. You can even listen to hip-hop/rap songs by black artists, and you’ll most likely hear that “that” is in fact pronounced as “dat”.
The usage of AAVE also depends on where the person grew up, as southern black folk use SIGNIFICANTLY more AAVE than more northern black folk (such as myself, yet again). I’ll save this conversation if someone wants to have it with me. No, I’m not trying to shove race into a cartoon, I’m simply pointing out something I thought was interesting, and wanted to put my opinion on it.

This joke is far too funny; the fact that everybody, including Endive, was surprised by Chowder's statement about Panini being a girl already made it hilarious. But what makes it even funnier is the fact that Panini repeatedly yelled "slander" to make it sound as though Chowder's claim was not only false but also damaging to her entire reputation. I actually cried of laughter because of that.
This show has god-tier comedy.
The voice acting really sells it too. Nicky Jones in particular matched the comedic energy so well.

One of my favorite things about this show is the liberty they take with scaling. A lot of shows would go “well we can’t have Edna be 1 foot taller then them sometimes, then other times they’re climbing on her back like a literal mountain” but I LOVE it. It adds to the almost dreamlike bizarre feeling of the world
