Yup,I like the ancient roman times better than the medieval period, played both Rome,Rome 2,Shogun 2 and Medieval 2 But I got to say, from all the Total War games,Medieval 2 is the best
Totally agree with you, Medieval 2 NEVER gets boring! Fighting the Golden Horde head on with your most badass army never fails to impress you :D "Units March!" "AYE!"
AYE!!! Nothing beats seeing the initial clash of warriors in medieval 2 never boring to me!!. Ive played all TW games as well but nothing beats this game
One of my favourite soundtracks of Medieval II. Remember those battles where you had to hold the enemy in one place and keep them pinned down there at all costs? Like at a river crossing battle. And no matter how hard your soldiers fought, there seemed to be no end to the enemy's forces! Your archers kept firing, your trebuchets kept launching, your soldiers held them in fierce melee combat...and yet they kept on coming, and coming...and coming! "Our men have fought long, and are becoming tired!". Then, as if you were there, you kept saying "hang on men, hang on! Remember the loved ones we defend back home! We MUST hold them here! To victory or death, we fight on!"
had a battle like that in Empire Total War Darthmod, I was Poland in the late era start and I had revived the Commonwealth and had a massive bridge battle with the Prussians, there were times I thought I would die. We held on for the King and the Commonwealth
Never had a battle like that. From the start, I had a relatively easy time beating the AI in chokepoints, generally. A few counterattacks with my general would see them off on the rare occasion they forced their way across.
@@revanofkorriban1505 Were the settings on Easy, perhaps? Or did your General face peasants or spear-less infantry? (for your info, I faced two French armies at a river crossing, both full with foot knights and mounted knights, their crossbowmen and some artillery. I had one English army almost 50% consisting of the Retinue Longbowmen and some Sherwood Archers, and the rest dismounted English Knights, artillery of varies sorts and of course one unit of the General's Bodyguard. 1200 versus 3000+.)
It was a long time ago, but I recall that the enemy flanked me on the campaign map and attacked me from both sides of the river during the battle. Their unit compositions were fairly similar to mine: mostly cheap spear troops with a few heavy cavalry units. I didn't have many archers and no artillery. Bridge crossing battles are a nightmare on multiplayer; the regular theme is that no matter how powerful you are, if you cross the bridge, you're screwed.
Abel Pascual Yeah I know, but why not hire him again. I mean are the developers that stupid, you found a very good composer stick with him. Simple as that -__-
"Duke of War" was a title given to loyal Roman military commanders in the late stages of the Roman Empire. These Dukes were supplied by Rome in order to keep them ready for battles against anyone who opposed the enemies of Rome (specially Barbarians). These same Dukes of war were then the first kings and nobles of the early medieval era, after the collapse of the Roman empire, and the last of the ancient/classic times. So yeah, cool music :D
@@wenerjyhey, I know that guy. He's a character in a Mount&Blade Warband King Arthur mod. His kingdom is in shambles at the start of the game with Jutes and Saxons flanking him and the Kingdom of Kent to the southwest. Poor dude is waging defensive campaigns everywhere to keep his territory, or what remains of it. I hang around his place since the tavern has a slave trader I could sell my prisoners for easy cash.
Hearing this on the Battle of Agincourt was damn golden. "The battle is very much in our favour, if we remain true and steadfast, victory will be ours!"
I don't know why, but the *whole damn track*, never mind that particular part, is reminiscent of England to me. Probably because of inclusion of English folk instruments. Could be the title. Or widespread annihilation with Longbowmen with this in the background.
The fact that this song has 1.5 million views, only beaten by Attila main menu theme and We Are All One which is Destiny given lyrics and from the same game speaks just how great this song is. I argue this is the best battle soundtrack Total War ever has. I still get pumped hearing it in battle. Whenever this song plays, I know I will be having a great time.
I feel ya. I'm mostly an Age of Empires 2 fan and after seeing the latest remasters without Stephen Rippy & Kevin Mcmullan (they're the AoE equivalents of Jeff Van Dyck and Richard Vaughan, from the Kingdoms' DLCs), the games just don't feel like the same (that's the least of the problems though)
Dublin was a small settlement, the need for its few minor resources was as little as its population size which was especially small due to the extermination of most its rebellious citizens after the English invasion. During the campaign through to the South of France the King of England may have stepped on a few diplomatic toes with his Spanish allies, who took the golden opportunity to invade the British homeland. Aiming to gain a foothold in the small Island nation, the King of Spain led his army of nearly 4000 men directly to the lacklustre settlement of Dublin. All that which defended the settlement at the time were the leftover levy army which had conquered it years earlier, due to being governed by a man only known as "Thomas the Mad", a distant relative of the King, himself, development on the settlement was slow, leaving them with only wooden palisades to defend from attackers. That faithful day came when Spanish Kings walked on Irish soil to invade English towns, bringing with them the largest army Thomas had ever seen. After a babbling incoherent speech from their general, the men went to battle in uneasy faith, longbowmen at the ready as the Spanish king followed his siege engines to the gate. The ram wracked the front gate as a hail of arrows from the notorious English longbowmen plumeted into the lighter parts of the enemy's armour, killing many Spanish men, but not nearly enough to halt their progress. The gates burst open as the peasant legions rushed to protect their homes, trained longbowmen continuing their volleys as their countrymen were slaughtered by the enemy they once knew as allies. All hope was lost before Thomas the Mad himself charged to his people's aid, whether this came from a burst of psychotic bloodlust, inane madness or some deep need to assist his people it will never be known, all that is known however is that the governer of Dublin killed 43 men that day, holding off the Spanish hordes for long enough for a stray arrow to pierce the chest of the King of Spain, killing him instantly. The word spread amongst his remaining men quickly; the King was dead, and his armies splintered and retreated to their ships, assisted by the Prince, who was surprised to find himself unceremoniously crowned King that day. Later that year a Spanish diplomat arrived at one of the newly conquered French towns, he brought with him a request for a ceasefire, and a hefty coffer full of Florins.
Well me too, but then I saw Three Kingdoms and Troy and I'm just worried they'd completely mess it up. Overcomplicate stuff that doesn't need to be complicated, like character stats, and make the battles arcadey and weird. Have superhero generals able to breach walls, completely unrealistic and very unpractical armor and weapons, fifty percent of the game is DLC... Beter just get MKTW 1212
You ever have those days where you fight Timurids for so long that you don't even bother to fix the walls, and your men have been holding out against them for about a hundred years.
yup, the soundtracks are epic (this one especially) and if your pair that with thousands of men clashing on a battlefield while arrows and siege weapon projectiles fly above their heads you are guaranteed to have a great time
I leave this in memory of Loefwine of Merryfield, the Frank-Slayer, the Scarred, the Conquerer and my Duke of Death. Loefwine was adopted after a peace deal with France. Angers was handed over and he was sent out with two mailed knights and two mercenary knights to make ready for another war with France. He was meant to be a holding party, ready to stop anyone coming close to Paris as King Rufus laid siege. I sent him to Dijon with some extra spear men to lay siege. Little did I know that the entire French family and two huge armies arrived to put an end to his siege. On top of a huge mountain, Loefwine held off against both armies and through a massive flank with my cavalry, slayed both the French King and the Heir, the news spread fast. The Slaughter of Dijon became legendary, the French Kingdom collapsed and Loefwine became a renowned English hero. Feared for his military genius, he would later lead my elite armies into Italy and crush the traitorous Milanese and sacked their affluent city. This played throughout the entire battle and there was never a more fitting song for Loefwine the Frank-Slayer.
This story reminds me of emperor Heinrich the wise in one of my stainless steel campaigns. Born in Switzerland, he marched towards Milan. While siegeing it he got attacked by a rebel army. Outnumbered, he charged his cavalry against the enemy rear. After the charge the enemy army broke and he conquered Milan. With Lombardy secured, he marched towards Ancona and took it. Then, he moved to the last byzantine holding in Italy. Outnumbered again, he waited for the enemy to sally out. He then killed their ranged units and their general. The byzantines fled. After kicking the byzantines out of italy, he marched to Naples. In the way to the city, he got surrounded by 3 sicilian armies. The italians had more soldiers, were on the high ground, had artillery and surrounded me. With my superior heavy cavalry, I destroyed the 2 reinforcing armies, composed mostly of crossbowmen and shitty spearmen. Now, I was the one who outnumbered them. I lured them down from the hill with my crossbowmen. The entire army charged. I took what remained of my heavy cavalry and killed the king. The sicilians routed, and left Naples undefended. Right when I took the sicilian capital, a new sicilian pope got elected. Me, England and France were excommunicated, so I formed a coalition with them and invaded the papal states. The roman garrison were just 1 unit of spearmen and another of crossbowmen, so I took the city without a fight. Now, he's marching towards Genoa and Venice to finish the conquest of Italy.
Here in Southeast Asia, they say "Farang" or "Barang" to refer to the French in particular, and Europeans in general. It comes from the word Frank, apparently.
This song is for Captain Heinrich, who defendes Jerusalem from the Mongols and Timurids, for nearly 50 years, with nothing but a ragtag of spearmem, light cavalry and halberdiers
This song alone, at the right time during the the Agincourt demo is what gave me the impulse to buy this game. Jeff Van Dyk certainly knows how to make a score to get your blood pumping.
"By the Grace of God, the enemy are utterly vanquished. Let all those who fought here remember this as the day of our most glorious victory!!" That line at the end of the Battle of Agincourt gave me goosebumps.
When this sountrack starts playing, even the most unwinnable battles can turn into victories. When I hear hear 1:10 all I can think about is my cavalry chasing fleeing enemies. 10/10 music

It was july of 2021, I along a classmate of mine were on the same ship him as engine cadet, me as deck, we were at an old container ship, and I had brought along my new laptop with Medieval 2 downloaded. At our free time ge started an England campaign, his first time, and I was watching and helping. We started off well, taking the coast from bordeux to Antwerp, but then the eternal war with the Germans started. We knew too little of diplomacy, were always poor, didn't cate enough and found it amusing. At about year 124 of war we had just snuck an army behind their forts and taken Staufen and anihikated Frankfurt, destroying all the buildings, the war was going to a stalemate until He came, the Chosen one, he had good stats so we trained him from a young age to max his command and dread, he had all the awesome traits and retinues and all and even got the dislikes Germans trait. We build him a huge army and marched him to war, he easily crushed 3 medium sized German armies and then he ambushed the beliegeref German force besieging Antwerp. It was a small force, everything indicated to an easy victory so while my friend and I made our lines and were fucking around we failed to notice their trebuchets. When we noticed and stopped timd it was already too late, the projectile almost had reached the General's unit so we prayed for the best. But the worst came with him being the only casualty. The battle was won but from that battle the whole campaign changed from an adventure great war to Warhammer 40K, no hope for humanity (England) only eternal war, 300 years in total war until they fell and then the Mongols came from the east. A campaign that I'll never forget, although we failed all goals in the end it was great fun
This played while Portugal attacked one of my castles as England, since it was relatively early game they were armed with a bunch of spear militia and some bowmen and a couple knights. I only had longbowmen, some spear militia and town militia and my general and one of those light calvalry guys. The battle was crazy,i was luckily able to take down their siege tower and ladder bearers before they got to the walls, and i ordered my bowmen to stop firing. To be honest i was unironically about to lose and i genuinely wanted to give up, i got my general out of the squarw and tried letting the enemy take it.. then i had the brilliant idea of outmaneuvering the enemy general and somehow i was able to kill him. I got my bowmen to use whats left of their ammo to weaken the enemy forces and used them in melee, i won that day with a sliver of men. F you Portugal i'm coming to your stupid peninsula with an army of mortars.

Yup,I like the ancient roman times better than the medieval period, played both Rome,Rome 2,Shogun 2 and Medieval 2

Totally agree with you, Medieval 2 NEVER gets boring!

Nothing beats seeing the initial clash of warriors in medieval 2 never boring to me!!. Ive played all TW games as well but nothing beats this game
Nothing beats a knight on horseback. Cavalry charge!!!
Nothing beats MTW 1.... the most polished total war ever along with shogun 2... the soundtrack also blows away

@@isaacclarke3835 Nice, mate! Nice!
These were the good Total war games, epic music and gameplay. I just wish they made Rome 2 as good :((
I just applied the rome I music patch to rome 2. the Rome 2 ost doesen't even inspire for battle.

Rome 2's music wasn't made by Van Dyck. That should explain why. :P
Abel Pascual Yeah I know, but why not hire him again. I mean are the developers that stupid, you found a very good composer stick with him. Simple as that -__-
I'll never forget the italian advisor saying "Porco cane mi son perso di nuovo" during a battle. (Doggonit, i lost myself again)

I don't know why, but the *whole damn track*, never mind that particular part, is reminiscent of England to me. Probably because of inclusion of English folk instruments. Could be the title. Or widespread annihilation with Longbowmen with this in the background.

The French AI was so fucked against English longbows. All those expensive knights made useless.

The fact that this song has 1.5 million views, only beaten by Attila main menu theme and We Are All One which is Destiny given lyrics and from the same game speaks just how great this song is. A total war without Jeff van Dyck is an half total war
half war?
Better Half War then a Half Men
Hence why everything since Shogun 2 has paled in comparison, even Empire was very shaky and that was the first game not to feature him...
tbh Beddow has done some good work in the Warhammers
I've fought many an epic battle to this music !
Jeff van Dyck really knows how to play with tension build up and release in the climax. Many eargasms.
i want medieval 3!!

@@ww93421 agree!
You can actually download free mod for attila called medieval kingdoms 1212 AD, it's medieval 2 with better grafics and mechanics
When you have 3 weeks left in your Ph.D. program and you hit the run button.
It's so rare that a soundtrack has pure epicness in every single note! It's freaking awesome!!!
The main reason why I still play medieval 2:
yup, the soundtracks are epic (this one especially) and if your pair that with thousands of men clashing on a battlefield while arrows and siege weapon projectiles fly above their heads you are guaranteed to have a great time
I leave this in memory of Loefwine of Merryfield, the Frank-Slayer, the Scarred, the Conquerer and my Duke of Death.
I love this and Rome 1 because they're so damn roleplayable.

A campaign that I'll never forget, although we failed all goals in the end it was great fun

the soundtrack that can turn a defeat into a heroic victory
