Sombre but dignified - as a monarch must be, even as he wonders if it was worth it. And when you hear this on the main menu? Those soldiers are no longer marching to war, they're marching to the afterlife...
That's all very compelling. 💯 Personally, every time 2:29 hits all I can picture is one scene, after a major battle, taking place on a hill at dusk in which a warrior is gazing at the sunset whilst on his knees and bleeding. Surrounding the darkness around him lie the bodies of friends and foes... and all he feels is pain, cold, and profound sadness knowing that Death is coming for him too... Either way, I love this part of the soundtrack. Upon reading your interpretation I've been moved as well. Cheers!
Whenever I listen to this song, I imagine a knight returning from battle only to discover his family has been slaughtered, he prays to the lord, wishing only to know the names of the men who killed his family. And so, he sets out for revenge.
Perfect music for an intro of a video I am about to make about my current imperial campaign in Mount & Blade II Bannerlord as Emperor Maximilian von Habsburg.
Yeah I don't mind them trying new things but the campaign was significantly watered down in Rome 2. Attila was a step in the right direction and TW Warhammer also has some interesting stuff given the vast difference between races. I've mostly switched over to Paradox games. I get the real time battles are the main draw but some of us play TW for the campaign.
IMO I dont think Rome 2 was THAT horrible, maybe the family system and other mechanics like general speeches are watered down, but they also added great things, like the Legion system
To ANYONE listening to this type of music (including this song) on youtube, add &fmt=18 to the link of the page. The quality then is not compressed, and the sound is simply amazing. Thanks for posting this.
If they make a redo of Medieval II without changing the mechanics, just like the symbols (like a sword above a unit or something instead of just flags) and improved graphics, that'd be nice.
It's hard to say when, but the game is already under development, so maybe next year if we're lucky. I think Medieval is the most interesting age for this kind of game for a lot of reasons, but mostly because of the great variety of nations. But let's see what's coming next... TW is always great!
