Mate this is emotional. My first M2TW campaign as England was pretty much defined by a 200 and something turn long struggle against the French and Milanese. I finally won out in the last 20 turns and conqured them both but this makes the "success" seem so hollow.
+Red Verse I destroyed Scotland swiftly, abiding by the Pope, but the pace would simply not suffice for France, so I sent two assassins to Rome to assassinate the Pope as I began my conquest on France. My first time playing I conquered everything in sight. Became an endless, english empire carved out with a sword. Then they hit me with this song in the credits and try to guilt trip me? Makes you wonder if all of it was justified. Love this song.
Listening to this song I looked at the pictures of my children. While living in a country with "frozen" war, which can start at any day (Azerbaijan), this song really gives me some questions to think about.
I love this song dude. Like in my moment of victory I'm left to think. It was fucked up that I looted and invaded Egypt just because the Pope said to, and he only said so because they're not Christian. It's fucked up that I exterminated the population and looted it for the most money and left it to revolt, but that's what got me the most profit. It's fucked up that I started wars with my neighbors just for more power, and that I recruited peasents for the explicit purpose of being cannon fodder and pushing the siege weapons... But I did it without hesitation.
I pray one day Rome II will have a huge patch fixing everything that was wrong with it from stupid AI, pathing, general abilty-based combat, to the ugly UI (that covers 2/3 of my screen)..... and then a few Jeff van Dyck music with it to bring back that Total War feel. I can only pray....
totaly right, still i think best total war game is Medieval Total War 2. After Medieval 2, over 5 game passed, Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2, Fall of the Samurai and Rome 2, but still i playing Medieval, still balanced and still satisfying. Game developers should know: BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS ARE NOT WHAT MAKES A GAME..
Taylan Arabacı Speaking of which, the graphics in Medieval 2 are still pretty, so long as you don't do too much zooming in. That game was fucking incredible looking at its time, and if you apply mods to it, it can still look pretty damn nice.
Veloziraptor111 Medieval 2 graphics already past the quality where graphics doesn't bother me anymore (especially for an RTT/RTS); I don't need more polygons to enjoy a game when they can invest their productivity somewhere else. One thing that I really liked was that when you upgraded armor in ME2 it affected the unit cosmetically. At least they are heavily patching Rome2 as we speak, so we'll see. IF CA ever decides to make a Warhammer Total War, THEY HAD BETTER NOT FUCK THAT UP OR THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
Honestly I love the contrast between this song and the Shogun 2 counterpart. Not really in message as they kind of handle two different matters that apply to their realm of the world. It’s more of just the composition and instruments. Yet with the same singer and composer, you can still make out similarities.
I always loved how the early TW games made a point to paint the wars as tragic and deadly even as you are intended to fight them. It's not just smacking around enemies, there's a small amount of anti-war thinking in the music direction and sound effects.
Could you imagine the anti-war song if Total War Warhammer had its OST composed by Van Dyck? "Why can't we see the tru-URK" "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!/WAAAAAAAAAGH!/Serve me in Life or Slave for me in Death/*Goat noises*!"
Unless Creative Assembly gets their shit together, this will continue to be THE Total War game for me. Rome 2 was a mess. I was really hoping they'd go for Medieval 3 next, but now I fear what they might do with it. On the other hand, Medieval 2 + mods is probably as good as a Total War game is going to get gameplay wise. Now if they just took everything from that game and applied the fancy shmancy new gen graphics- I'd be happy with the result.
Its either miss or hit for Total War. Creative Assembly is still a great company but we will have to wait and see what they have in store for us next. Heres some advice, dont preorder their games!
In fact, the worst aspects of humanity really inspire the greatest, because there is no peace without war, there is no love without hate, there is no life without death The worst things need to happen so we see how good are the greatest
Wow. Scroll down and you find people who think this isn't from a video game. Ummm... This song exists as the credits song. You were evil during the game, killing literally everything. It's fun. This song was made years before ISIS.
and since they did such a _great_ job at it, now they're down to using trucks against soft targets. Muhammed was a pig, a liar and a maniac...I _would_ add something like 'but at least', but...yeah, nothing...
To all of the depressingly naive and overenthusiastic 14 year olds in the comments who played this game for 10 hours and now think they are ready to fight a crusade, here's a little quote to consider: "War is sweet to those who have never experienced it." - Pindar
Don't quote people who have never known war either, there is a reason why veterans are sad they can't fight anymore. War is human nature and we relish in it, accept it or live in denial this is how it's gonna be.
Great, thanks to the lyrics whenever I hear this song playing before I begin a field battle/siege against an enemy faction in Medieval II I feel bad for myself. Also, when 1:47 started I can't help but imagine a Feudal knight with headphones jockeying disks on a turntable, or however that phrase goes.
This song is for them. Because in Gaza, Zionists do not see their enemies as human beings. They do not have such emotions. And war was always more brutal in Middle East
A King may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that even when those who move you be Kings, or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus." Or that, "Virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that..
In All Honesty I've been listening constantly to this song for years now and I am a bit sad that it's not more popular since IMO it's one of the better if not best songs out there. The fact it was made for a game makes it that much better for me! Hopefully Musical pieces like this one get more popularity with people so that true talent can be more appreciated in the musical Industry and inspire more artists as well as make them successful! PS: I am not a musician or anything like that I just want people to be appreciated for their hard work and talent properly, since they put themselves out to share their passion with the world :)
With how most of the new Total War games have been I don't think I want a Medieval 3: Total War, I just want an HD remake of Medieval 2: Total War because I still play M2:TW to this day as well as kingdoms. Plus the modding community is still active which is really nice.
Me playing a Christian faction, not being bad in anyway towards the other factions: Ah, building up my economy Other Christian Factions: Hello, we have declared War on you. Me: ????? Okay fine, you asked for me The Pope after the other faction has one city left: YOU MUST STOP THIS AGGRESSION OR WE GONNA FUCK YOU UP Me: THEY STARTED IT TF
Derpy Geth Thats the point, sadly, total war becomes more "arcade" with every new part. I guess because they have a bigger group of buyers this way. But hey, there are good modders which make nice mods.
Great does not necessarily mean that the empire has to be huge itself. It has to influence culture, society, philosophy, science and many more aspects. And 2753 years of Roman history achieved exactly that.
en example the british empire lasted 110 years , and the mongols lasted 160 years , the roman empire lasted 1200 years the most important thing is the roman empire did not conquer an empty lands like the mongol empire just huge empty forests trees with no people in it , the romans they were not looking for size they were looking for wealth and Densely populated areas take in concentration the roman empire was pretty huge and they rolled the world with a( sword and a shield ) for 1200 years did the british empire conquer the the world with a sword and shield and they had some technology and weapons and they could not last more than 110 .. nothing is like rome
@@WMWMW7200 Its been a long time but the British empire lasted much longer than 110 years. Also the reason the British Empire fell was because of the formation of a national identity. People didn't want the British to rule them when the British were not like them.
David Zz A) The Roman Empire was founded in 27 BCE. It didn't last 1200 years. B) In case you forgot, the Mongols conquered China. C) It's sad how many people are arguing about which empire was the coolest in this comments section and completely miss the point of the song.
+Un-broken and victorious The lyrics are truth, but, it is indeed out of place in a game where genocide is the only option you are allowed. It's quite the gut punch Instead of trying to understand and make peace with everyone, you kill everyone who doesn't share your beliefs. In the song the women is lamenting for the families of all the warriors you mercilessly slaughter and that you are blind to the truth that we are all one (and indeed we are all one yet we live as if divided because of different beliefs, desires, and values)
there is truth in that but you could still play it in way were you only protect yourself and your alleys but its simpler to conquer just everybody and create peace under yourself in total war. It may even be harder when you try to keeps just the satus quo.
@@shadowlord1418 Tyrany only ever ends in more tyranny, never peace. You conquer all your neighbors, one of your subjects assisted you and takes control of your kingdom, infighting ensues, the kingdom splits, and it begins all over again.
You know, everyone is talking about war but no one is talking about the song. I think that this is an amazing song with a great voice and message. Just look at the lyrics. They are a perfect representation of the state of humankind. I think this is a great song although I would disagree with this part: "And the only thing worth fighting for In this world is love" There are tons of things that are worth fighting for more than love but other than that, it's a great song ^.^
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.
Yeah I like the Medieval 2 version better without the lyrics.. Currently playing as Holy Roman Empire -Annex the Danes into my beautiful lands -Push south and take papal states and Milan -Appoint my own pope -Crusade gets called -Take Jerusalem, then push into egypt. -Send 4 priests over and convert the violent Muslim hethens. -Push into France -Open an eastern front like Hitler -Steamroller Poland and set up defenses for the Mongols. -Unite 80% of Europe.
I personally stick to Stainless Steel and other Mods for Medieval II, because I don't have confidence in CA to deliver a worthy sequel. Look at how Rome II turned out.
i love this song, it let's a sweet taste in my head, after so much war and battle that one experiences in the game this song fills me with hope and happiness for the future
Fascinating how the credits song to a video game basically sums up the entire human race. Medieval II had something that most games don't, and that's heart.

My first time playing I conquered everything in sight. Became an endless, english empire carved out with a sword. Then they hit me with this song in the credits and try to guilt trip me? Makes you wonder if all of it was justified. Love this song.
Yea it was 😎👍
It was. TEA EMPIRE!!!!!!
Technically you did make the song come true, everyone became one.
"Why can't we see the truth, we are all one." Got to love the truth in their words. If more people understood this message we'd have less wars.

Glad to see that song can bring some humanity in place where mutual hatred is a norm.
Why did CA drop Jeff van Dyck? His music brought the games to the level of legendary.
Epic
Dude you are making me feel bad😢
Veloziraptor111 Third Age Total War \m/

it would be better if they cept the old graphics of Rome 1 and medieval 2 so everyone could play
If jeff and angela are not in Medieval 3, the game will be doomed to failure
If we ever get Medieval 3 that is.
Even if you got Medieval 3 it will never be able to live up to the hype, CA just isn't the same CA they used to be.
I always loved how the main tune of this song was the pre battle interface.
"Why can't we see the tru-URK"
"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!/WAAAAAAAAAGH!/Serve me in Life or Slave for me in Death/*Goat noises*!"
Sad that he didn't make a return for that game.

Aaaand another one completely misunderstands Warhammer. Whooosh~
Everyone blames the Developer but never the Publisher. Sega.
Shogun II is also an excelent game and a truly successor of the Original. I only play Shogun II and Medieval II nowadays.
Besides the latest shitty update, Rome 2 has actually gotten a lot better. Sure, there are a few "features" still. But hey, it's pretty fun now.
As for the graphics, this might help: ruclips.net/video/LsM9mU9SsIY/видео.html

In fact, the worst aspects of humanity really inspire the greatest, because there is no peace without war, there is no love without hate, there is no life without death
The worst things need to happen so we see how good are the greatest
Wow. Scroll down and you find people who think this isn't from a video game. Ummm... This song exists as the credits song. You were evil during the game, killing literally everything. It's fun. This song was made years before ISIS.
Gron113 isis is trying to recreate the Caliphate which was started by Muhammad when he left for Medina.

I hope war will be only in video games.
You know there's war in the Middle East? Check out Vice to see some videos on it.

this song needs to play in the medieval 3 reveal trailer
To all of the depressingly naive and overenthusiastic 14 year olds in the comments who played this game for 10 hours and now think they are ready to fight a crusade, here's a little quote to consider: "War is sweet to those who have never experienced it."
- Pindar
Pindar never knew war either
Pferd Schild so fucking true
Don't quote people who have never known war either, there is a reason why veterans are sad they can't fight anymore. War is human nature and we relish in it, accept it or live in denial this is how it's gonna be.
Aye rome total war quote as well
They're not idiots, they're jokeing. Its the same motivation that makes us play the game. Let them have fun.

This song is for them. Because in Gaza, Zionists do not see their enemies as human beings. They do not have such emotions.

A King may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that even when those who move you be Kings, or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone.

For the glory of rome , for the greatest empire has ever existed !!!
*Cough* Empire of Kublai Khan *cough*

A) The Roman Empire was founded in 27 BCE. It didn't last 1200 years.
B) In case you forgot, the Mongols conquered China.
C) It's sad how many people are arguing about which empire was the coolest in this comments section and completely miss the point of the song.
Way too many people seem to not have understood the song.
+Un-broken and victorious
The lyrics are truth, but, it is indeed out of place in a game where genocide is the only option you are allowed. It's quite the gut punch
Instead of trying to understand and make peace with everyone, you kill everyone who doesn't share your beliefs.

They are a perfect representation of the state of humankind.
I think this is a great song although I would disagree with this part:
"And the only thing worth fighting for In this world is love"
There are tons of things that are worth fighting for more than love but other than that, it's a great song ^.^
