I can't imagine how terrifying that was for Germans. First, the defenders open their gates, in a dead silence, and then, through gas cloud, they see human shadows, standing, rifles in hand, outfit with blood and vomit on it, with terrible rage in their eyes, starting to charge... So badass, full respect for them
And that's why America is terrified to fight Russians. And why everyone should be terrified of fighting Russians. Just remember, if you piss them off enough, they'll come charging at you already half-dead.
I can’t begin to think of the sheer agony these men were experiencing. Blood coming from your eyes, nose and mouth- literally coughing up pieces of your own lungs… And had the willpower and determination to affix bayonets and charge a force that outnumbered them so greatly. Unbreakable doesn’t begin to describe it.
@@scoobydoobers23while that do reign true, why do you suppose they fought? Was it for the hate they felt towards their enemies, was it for the love of all they held dear at home, or was it just done out of duty? Whos to say, what we do know is they wrecked shit and scarred off an army that eclipsed them in size and their souls could rest in piece knowing they fought to their very last breathes
All memes aside, the sheer bravery and willpower of the Russians that day cannot be overstated. They had been gassed to the point of being horrifically disfigured, coughing up blood and even bits of their own lungs. They really were dead men, with only days left to live at most. And yet, despite the excruciating pain they suffered, they found the strength to affix their bayonets for one last, desperate charge, determined to make their last few hours count. We are right to honor and admire these men.
Honestly, if some divine being came down as I was writhing in the most excruciating pain possible and said "you can get revenge if you stand up", I'd fucking get up with bayonet attached seeking flesh to plunge it into.

They literally were convinced they were undead, so they had to have looked absolutely horrifying to scare soilders that had them greatly outnumbered so bad they retreated.

@@astartesfanboy5294 I mean, keep in mind that it embedded pieces of the movie 300 into it, which itself was a tale told to inspire spartans, if you look at the start when the one-eyed guy starts telling it, so naturally embellishment is present. But in this case I think its quite acceptable, in fact its awesome, because it doesnt take away from the fact that 2300 dudes, (300 spartans plus some 2000 odd athenian reinforcements) held off a literal swarm of persians so long. TL;DR: Over embellishment is indeed present, but its appropriate for the tale being told.
No word of a lie, this song helped me thru the move yesterday. I'm a disabled veteran, afghan campaign, and this song was on repeat to keep me going. If this group of men can fight without lungs, I can move furniture with a fucked knee.

My dad was shot and stabbed in Operations Just Cause and Desert Storm but he considers his worst injury he has had a coconut allergy. Just keep moving man.
Your forces halted their advance. The unmistakable crack of a rifle being fired rang out. A young man staggered back, clutching his chest. A ragged blotch of crimson stained his uniform, and blood had begun seeping out from between his fingers. He dropped to his knees, then fell back. Who had shot? It couldn't have been one of your own. Everyone turned to the massive plume of toxic fog, breathing heavily through their masks. Footsteps. Rapid, crazed footsteps. Then they came into sight. A horrendous, bone-chilling sight. A handful of the Russians had not let the gas claim them. They were charging, bayonets lowered, steel-blades craving blood in revenge for the spilling of their own. The handful became a hundred. A hundred, angry faces, flesh sloughing off of their faces, blisters erupting on their corroding skin. You open your mouth to scream. All that comes out is a squeak. You're frozen in place, terror gripping you like the hand of God Himself refusing to let you move. They were getting closer, carrying with them the stench of blood, and the sound of suffering. Do you remember those you've killed before, soldier? These ones remember, too. And these ones are pissed.
Sabaton doesn't care about who wins or loses, the band just wants to highlight courage. To note : Can you guys stop arguing about why war is or isn't bad, this is about those who bravely risked or gave their lives for what they believed in.
There is no winners in war. All sides loses their citizens, cities, army, equipment. I remember watching documentary about Tripitz sinking and the survived germany soldier said that all this war was for nothing. Both sides lost young men who could or had their own children and families.
@@zilvis1140 you must be kidding. If there are no wars, why would we develop new technologies at this fascinating speed? Benefits from new technologies are way more important than a few souls.
They were outnumbered 7 to 1, manning a fortress that was already bombed and gassed by the Germans, yet they ended up not only fending them off but also taking territory from them thanks to the efforts of the 13th company and their Lieutenants, both of whom later died that very same day. To say this battle was legendary would be an understatement, this was a once in a billion miracle

Someone I know said that they didn't like Sabaton because their music was disrespectful to the people who died in battle. Personally, if I died in a battle and then many years later some band put out some badass music about how I died fighting honorably and valiantly, I'd be pretty dang proud.
The immortalising of warriors have been a reason for the common man to go to war since the dawn of civilisation. War as something grim and inglorious to be avoided is pretty damn new in a historical context only about 105 ish years. So yes the fallen warriors of all era should be remembered in song. And suggesting otherwise is, at least to me, terribly narrow minded. And thank you glorious bards of sabaton for your efforts in doing just that.
There is one event in history very similar to the feat of the 300 Spartans - Karyagin’s raid. In 1805, 497 Russian soldiers were able to defeat 20,000 Persians. (Sorry if anything is written incorrectly, I don't know English well)
Imagine being a part of this, being a Russian soldier having your insides dissolving, ready to die and surrender a critical fortress to the Germans, when you suddenly see the soldier next to you cough and get up. That’s when you decide to give all you have left, dying or not.
Interesting fact: Here, in Russia, there is a really famous phrase “Russians never surrender”. But many people don’t know that this phrase appeared after this battle. Actually, brothers of my grate grate grandfather died defending Osowietz.

The pale woman stood over the dying man, his lungs melting away as the last few licks of life were slowly seared away by the gas. The ticking of a pocket watch could be heard, as she leaned over the man. She asked him: "Your time is up, yet you still persist... Why?" The man, convinced that she was nothing more than a dying man's illusion chuckled, and simply responded with "It was my duty to defend this fortress, and I will do so till my last breath" The woman chuckled at the man's response, and replied with an unexpected answer: "Fine. But remember, when the bell tolls again, I will return for you." With that, the surreal moment faded. The ticking vanished with the woman, walking away with a black cane and a curved silver handle. With an unexpected burst of energy, he found the strength to pick himself up off the floor. Rifle in hand, covering himself with layers of cloth. He looked around, and many of his brothers lay still while others rose with him. The man thought to himself, feeling his body slowly melt underneath him: "Till my last breath..." This story reminds me of the battle of hill 731 between Greece and Italy in WW2. The Italians made tried 17 times to take the hill bombing it with everything the got. Both the Italians and the other Greek soldier's couldn't believe that anything could stay alive on that hill after such a bombardment. But when the Italians marched to take the hill they heard machine gun noises and they saw men full of blood and dust( some of them even missing a limb) running towards them with bayonets in their hands and chasing them down the hill. This hill is today called hill 726 because it lost 5 meters due to heavy bombing. The Italians named this counter-attack " the counter attack of the beasts".
Very interesting story of courage and bravery. We have also a similar battle in our history. In WW1 on the mount Kaymakchalan in Macedonia, two Bulgarian regiments managed to hold all of the attacks against the whole Serbian division. The bombardments were so heavy that the mount became shorter with 10 meters. Greece strong! 🇬🇷♥️🇧🇬
Georgia had something like this but before guns were invented, it was between 30 thousand Georgians against 300-400 thousand Turks, and Georgia won and then chased them out too, I guess orthodox Christians are just different
POV: your a German soldier, you hear the twisting of the barrels of gas, as the green smoke twists and turns in the direction of the Russian trenches... you’ve done it, after months of fighting in the dark trenches, you’ve finally broken them, with victory around the corner, you hear your officer brief you about the upcoming charge. You leap out of your trench, only to hear a scream you stop in your foot steps “but their shouldn’t be any left? Right?” You take another step forward and then you see them the first man leaping through the smoke he had a cloth around his face he stops for a second to cough, the white cloth is soaked in blood, he’s pale, white as a ghost... “Th-is I-I-it can’t be...” you step back more materialise aiming their rifles and firing at you, you scream in terror as you see your fellow soldiers impaled by russian bayonets “RETREAT!” You hear a solider say, you step back, shocked, “how..?” You finally turn, and run, running through the barb wire, cutting your feet, it wouldn’t be enough to stop you though, you kept running jumping over trenches, until you feel a sharp pain in your back... you fall....
Dealing with depression, this song has to be one of my top motivation picks. The sheer tenacity of the soldiers to fight when it shouldn't even be possible to do so, deserves my highest respect.

The pale woman stood over the dying man, his lungs melting away as the last few licks of life were slowly seared away by the gas. The ticking of a pocket watch could be heard, as she leaned over the man. She asked him:
"Your time is up, yet you still persist... Why?"
The man, convinced that she was nothing more than a dying man's illusion chuckled, and simply responded with
"It was my duty to defend this fortress, and I will do so till my last breath"
The woman chuckled at the man's response, and replied with an unexpected answer:
"Fine. But remember, when the bell tolls again, I will return for you."
With that, the surreal moment faded.
The man thought to himself, feeling his body slowly melt underneath him:
"Till my last breath..."

This story reminds me of the battle of hill 731 between Greece and Italy in WW2.

Dang this is actually pretty well written, have you ever written a story before? Original or otherwise

The fact the 100 almost dead men were able to scare off the invasion with sheer brute will, and anger is just such a ballsy thing
No just pure rage and vengeance it would have been one of the most scary thing to have even been seen in all war to see this mangled and disfigured bodies slowly crawling stumbling and prodding slowly toward you and your comrades would have been scary as fook
I mean, the German force were mostly Landwehr conscripts so morale was unlikely to be the highest to begin with, and add to that the fact that they were being attacked by what they literally thought were corpses and you have all the makings of a rout.
They were sitting in that gas for 3 says, normally that's all it takes to die from clorine gas. The Germans figured they were victorious. What they didn't know was that some people can carry on well past an expiration date. Those men who charged did so thinking they would die. They did it out of love for their country and way of life. But most importantly, they did it in the hopes that no one else would have to.
