@b4yn As of the context to where this verse applies, nope, God told Israel to surround Jericho's walls and the walls collapsed. they were victorious and took occupation of the land. While they were trying to expand their territories, they lose against a tribe called Ai, but that was because one guy broke one of God's instruction. After that problem was solved, they went back and conquered Ai.

Even if you're not very religious, you have to admire the sheer LOYALTY of the Guard. Not many people could face certain death so readily, for a single person. In some ways this event also reminds me of Torii Mototada's sacrifice in the Siege of Fushimi.
That is not a single person that is the Vicar of Christ, the Papal seat must never be broken and those Swiss Guard which are most certainly Catholic knew exactly what the consequence of that happening.

When I was a wee lad I felt I had a calling to serve the Church. I knew I didn’t want to become a priest since even at a young age I knew I wanted to have kids someday. Then I found out about the Swiss Guard. They paraded around in cool uniforms wielding halberds and uzis. That was going to be my path in life. Then I found out you had to be Swiss to join and just like that my dreams were shattered.

The first time I heard this, I thought I had found some awesome worship song.
It pretty much is for Catholics. The Swiss Guard still holds this battle as a sign of their truth faith to the church.

The "IN THE NAME OF GOD" gets me every time
It's the music and the subject matter. Part is the "church chord" (I think it's lots of playing around with Dominant 7ths but my music theory is a bit crap these days) harmony running up the major scale followed by the key shift from the song noodling back and forth between g minor and B flat major into I think C# major. Sabaton does a lot of slick things in their music.
I randomly go through and read comments on Sabaton songs to cheer myself up. You are all restoring what little faith in humanity i have.
First time doing it TBH ... Because usually after listening to their music ... it works like a mild drug to relieve a stress ... But comments are really something ... I should definitely check more 🎉

I´m a History teacher, and not only that, I teach History in English, which makes it harder for my students to understand, as they are not English speakers. Therefore, I have been matching your songs with the lessons I have to teach, as I´ve discovered is an excellent way to make my students remember and learn, plus exams are way funnier and less stressful with metal music blasting (well, moderately because the other teachers tend to complain). 8 out of 10 of my students end up being your fans, and they made me promise I will take them to one of your concerts as some sort of school trip... so, let me know when you´re coming to Mexico as I have some groups to take!

@@loliclickbait591 The battle of Ivry for example when the catholic army was defeated by Henri. His men wanted to attack the last units standing, the Swiss. But a general of Henri refused to charge them because they were elite units who would have dealt too much damages to his own units.
This is Sabaton's defining song. It's what gave me my initial wrong idea of them being edgy because how people wrongly interpret it. But, it's also one of the most driving tunes. A tale of 189 men who gave their lives to buy time.

If you're uneducated, it's easy to assume the song is telling facts about it.
I would assume people listening to it without the lyrics literally in front of them might only pick up certain bits.

This song will always be special for me as it helped my answer a question from my history professor, and also get a 62 year old interested in Heavy Metal
