DISCLAIMER: The “XIIII” is not an error, the image in the background is a real, historical one, and Romans commonly wrote 14 both as XIV and XIIII, it’s like colour vs color in English-multiple writing conventions can exist for a word or number, and XIIII is routinely attested in Ancient Roman sources and remains. Music and vocals by Farya Faraji, lyrics taken from the RMRS repertoire of marching songs; the RMRS are a reenactment group specialising in Ancient Roman military reconstructions and drills. Please note that this isn’t reconstructed ancient Roman music, it’s a modern piece with an ancient theme. With this song, I wanted to use only ancient Roman instruments and no modern orchestral ones, hence we only have drums, a lyre and an aulos, the last one is the bagpipe-like instrument that can also sound similar to a duduk depending on the model and playing style. The melody employs the Phrygian and Dorian modes of Ancient Greek and Roman music. I used Classical Pronunciation for the pronunciation, which is the reconstructed historical pronunciation of urban Rome circa the 1st century B.C up until the 3rd century A.D; it involves, among other elements, a retracted “s” like the Greek or European Spanish “s” sound, “v” is a “w” sound, the “m” endings like “um” and “em” are nasalised to the point where the “m” can almost sound silent, the “ae” cluster is a diphthong, and the “c” letter is a hard “k” sound. Note however that the melody does not take into account the phonemic vowel length, which was fundamental to the language, and it also ignores the stress accent. The Legio XIV Gemina, or Twinned Fourtheenth Legion, was formed by Julius Caesar in 57 B.C, in Cisalpine Gaul. The “twinned” part of the name refers to the fact that it was merged with another legion after the Battle of Actium. It partook in the Gallic Wars under Julius Caesar as well as the war in Britain where they faced Boudicca, and many more wars for the next centuries, existing up until the end of the Western Roman Empire, as late as the 5th century. Lyrics in Latin: Sumus Quartadecumani Legio Gemina, Aufer te! De via decedite! Cornu sonat pedem inferre, Milites romani, procedite! Nostra superbia est in legione Et pugnans peditatus est domus gensque. Nos signa sequimur, quocumque nos ducunt, A barbara Germaniae silva, Ad Caledoniam caliginem, Domitores Britannorum procedite. English translation: We are men of the Fourteenth, Legion of the Twin Away with you! Get out of our way! The trumpet sounds advance, Soldiers of Rome, forward! Our Pride is in the Legion, And the fighting infantry are our family and home, We follow the standard wherever it leads us, From the barbarous forests of Germany, To the mist shrouded hills of Caledonia, Tamers of Britain, March!
My friend, you should make one for the Paean of Apollo. At least a recreation of how it may have sounded like when sung by greek armies as they entered combat
I’ve always loved how each legion had its own name, its own emblem, and its own history. Like it was its own person. Farya always does justice to the subjects of his music. Justice and love.
Roman legions are, unironically direct descendants of the original indoeuropean warbands, each had its own name and animal they identified to. Not few celtic tribes are named after theirs like the Curiosolites(Koryo-svell, the massacring warband)
@@cintaratna6083 In the USA today we have the 82nd Airborne. In Britain they have the Scottish Black Watch. During the American Civil War there were the Black Hats, which suffered horrific casualties. In Ancient Persia there were the Immortals. It’s quite universal, you’re right, an old legacy.
I can easily see this go wrong "I sometimes like to listen to music from ancient cultures in their own languages" say it wrong and someone may think you are a fanatic looking to commit terrorism

question are the ones living in said village befriended by the empire or not if the first is true then good tidings be upon your humble village if the second is truth then 04 is right to wish for a quick establishment of friendship
Dang, those drums hit harder than Titus' legions when they toppled the walls of Jerusalem. (Honestly though, I really enjoy all the music you put out, it has such an interesting feel to it, and I love studying Roman literature to music like this, to put me into the world of antiquity a bit more)
very well, studying history is essential to have a complete vision of the current world, studying and carrying out comparative exercises and you will see that history has never changed, the protagonists have changed, now the wars are more extensive but less ferocious, if not we are careful with the current resources there is a risk of extinction.

Can you imagine hearing this if a Roman Legion was approaching? From the hills, you can hear the thunderous footsteps of the Roman army, armor and shields clinking sharply. But above all that, the bellowing voices of thousands of soldiers, all of them proclaiming the power of the the legion. i would sh#t on my self
Honestly, same goes with many germanic people. Could you imagine being a roman and suddenly the trees start singing germanic? I'd just drop my armor and leave.

Its interesting how its possible to make a Roman march without trumpets, an instrument which everyone associates with Rome. The lyrics are absolute fire, not gonna lie, and so is your performance. Out of all of your Roman songs, this one seems the most like a song legions could march to, the drums to give rhythm, and singing to boost morale and pass time during long marches. 10/10
Dear Farya, thank you for this song 😊 It was my number one song on Spotify last year. My son, who was born in March last year, grew up with it. Now he is almost 1 year old. Every time he hears the first sounds, he smiles ❤ More of such songs please! Greetings from Germany

I LIVE for your Roman themed music! Absolutely epic! No words, just chills. Music aside, I was wondering how many Boudiccas were there? I remember she led an uprising around the time of Emperor Nero, so I am a bit confused. Was there another Boudicca in the time of Caesar?
Legio XIIII GEMNIA MARTIA VICTRIX participated in the conquest of Caledonia and later under Nero the battle of Watling street and defeated Biudiccas. It was raised by Caesar but its legionary standard remained for more than five centuries.
Le resistenze nei confronti dei romani erano Indispensabili per mantenere l'Impero unito, anche quando non vi erano minacce le creavano. Ci sono state centinaia di "Boudicche" cadute per mano delle legioni. Senza un nemico l'Impero non vive.

Hi my friend, I live in the exact region where the Romans marched, Germany, border Netherlands, where xie forests stood, where the legions, culture and people romanized. There's a lot of Roman remains here, so I've been listening to this song at night, taking in these places and forests - what's left of them, exactly what's left of them. there is nothing to criticize about this song, i could put myself in it, the song is timelessly modern. like a roman script, it gives me power, expression, strength and in a way a faint glimpse of what it must have felt like to have to march through this region at that time. I can't wait to hear another work of art like this. I played this song to many people and everyone here with us thinks it's really enormous and impressive. whether there should be small formal errors, which i don't think doesn't matter, the idea alone is brilliant, i'm very impressed, keep it up! if you want to see something about the romans in reality, i recommend the museum in trier, aachen, cologne and many places offer a lot of history to see. all the best see you soon sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes

I wish I could revive a Roman veteran of this legion, have him listen to this. So sad it is that history is taken from us on the personal level by death; so glad it is that it may be revived on the personal level by songs honoring the dead.
I love this song so much. There's a lot of exciting lyricism - I really enjoy the number shift in "Aufer te de via decedite" from singular to plural, and the "Pugnans peditatus est domus gensque" is full of great sounds arranged in a cool chiasmus.

@TK "Britain didn’t conquer itself smart guy there is a difference between geographical Britain and English Britain" Still ignoring the point. William the Conqueror was King of England by right of conquest despite not being English. " Norman’s are still Germanic" They're French, which is why Normandy is part of France. They spoke a French-based language, and French was the language of the monarchy from the 11th century after the conquest to the accession of Henry IV. While the word Norman does derive from Northman, the Vikings who were given the region we now call Normandy, they assimilated with the local population, and lost any real sense of being Germanic. Just as the Norman kings would eventually lose any semblance of being French. So, again, by your own admission, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is not a successor to the Kingdom of England as it existed prior to the Norman conquests, and so Norman England is not actually England. " As for the patriarch recognitions I will just laugh it off considering you got no common sense that he was threaten with his life." He actually was not. In fact, in classical Roman fashion, Mehmet appointed the Ecumenical Patriarch which recognized his authority as Roman Emperor. And you can't say this makes him illegitimate considering that the Emperors have been appointing patriarchs for nearly a thousand years by this point in time. "you really pressed about this and I really don’t care" You apparently DO care, since you responded. "You also just recognized that target are an outside entity that simply let some form of government live inside that doesn’t make the a successor by far in fact only a very deflect fee ottomans even considered themselves Roman other, so yes you’re not only pressed but never got passed 6th grade it seems." Considering you can't even write coherently, this is the perfect example of a black pot calling a white kettle black. If that metaphor is too hard for you to comprehend, I'll explain it. You say I am uneducated, IE you are calling me a black kettle, while you are someone who lacks enough education to use proper grammar, IE, a black pot. I call myself a white kettle because I am clearly more educated than you will ever be, as shown by my use of reasoned arguments and ability to command the English language with a high degree of fluency. I suggest you look up what 'irony' means, because you are oozing it. And yes I am the same person as Me, I have a work account and a personal account. While in my work account I have to be nice, in my personal account I do not. I was trying to be civil, but you showed yourself to be a uneducated vermin unable to entertain ideas that run contrary to their personally held beliefs. Which is the mark of an uneducated scoundrel.
This is personally my favorite Roman-themed song that you’ve made so far! (I love them all btw) Your music and channel are massively UNDERRATED! Keep up the great work! PS: Your music is great to listen to while playing Total War Rome. You outta also consider making a song on the 9th or 10th legions with a very clear Caesar-loving focus if you haven't. Maybe a song on Quintus Sertorius, a mix of Roman with heavy Iberian theme. Hannibal, I'm not sure if you've done any Phoenician based songs. Could also do one on the Roman perspective where it’s sounds dire with lyrics about how dangerous he really was and how the Romans saw him as their boogeyman. Obviously Augustus is a must, Roman themed with a heavy and thick emphasis on Power and Prestige. Pompey, Aurelian, Trajan, Stilicho, Marcus Agrippa and many many more famous Romans who I think could have their own themes. But those are just sound cool ideas in my opinion. Once more great song!

Love that these great tunes are composed by a son of the OTHER great ancient empire. The Persians and Romans, neighbors for many centuries, usually at peace but sometimes at war, always civilized empires with barbarian enemies beyond the frontiers.
Love to Persians. The Empire loves the nation of decency called Persia. Differences between ,are just philological today infront of the evil West. And I am a Roman from Greece.

Unfortunate how the Empire converted to Christianity, split, than fell. Than, for the next 1000 years Europe kept burning women for being "Witches" and that sort of thing. *nods* I agree from an Indigenous Spiritualist from America
@@Comicfield1 Thats actually only like... Less than 5% true. Through the whole of the Medieval Period, less than a dozen women were ever actually executed on grounds of "witchcraft" Sure, many women were *accused*... But that doesn't mean they were all actually tried, *actually* found guilty, and even then they might not even actually be friggin' executed... Your claim is an utterly skewed and dishonest stereotype, born out of half complete accounts of very *rare* events of the era. Believe it or not, back then and even now the Church never officially believed in Witchcraft or Witches... None could explain why better than the famed Saint Augustine himself.. "..The Church has no reason to seek out or persecute any witches, because their power does not exist." "It was the Error of Pagans to believe in some other divine power than The One God." Sure there are exceptions in history, but it was, and *should* be said.. The exceptions *do not* make the rules.

Lyrics in Latin:
Sumus Quartadecumani Legio Gemina,
Aufer te! De via decedite!
Cornu sonat pedem inferre,
Milites romani, procedite!
Nostra superbia est in legione
Et pugnans peditatus est domus gensque.
Nos signa sequimur, quocumque nos ducunt,
A barbara Germaniae silva,
Ad Caledoniam caliginem,
Domitores Britannorum procedite.
English translation:
We are men of the Fourteenth, Legion of the Twin Away with you! Get out of our way!
The trumpet sounds advance,
Soldiers of Rome, forward!
Our Pride is in the Legion,
And the fighting infantry are our family and home,
We follow the standard wherever it leads us,
From the barbarous forests of Germany,
To the mist shrouded hills of Caledonia,
Tamers of Britain, March!

Roma wasn't a city but a way of life in a dark world
The best song of Rome!!! I fall in love... Ohhh... AVE ROME! GREAT JOB
Happy Birthday to the greatest Empire to ever exist!

@TK "Britain didn’t conquer itself smart guy there is a difference between geographical Britain and English Britain"
Still ignoring the point. William the Conqueror was King of England by right of conquest despite not being English.
" Norman’s are still Germanic"
They're French, which is why Normandy is part of France.
" As for the patriarch recognitions I will just laugh it off considering you got no common sense that he was threaten with his life."
He actually was not. In fact, in classical Roman fashion, Mehmet appointed the Ecumenical Patriarch which recognized his authority as Roman Emperor. And you can't say this makes him illegitimate considering that the Emperors have been appointing patriarchs for nearly a thousand years by this point in time.
"you really pressed about this and I really don’t care"
You apparently DO care, since you responded.
"You also just recognized that target are an outside entity that simply let some form of government live inside that doesn’t make the a successor by far in fact only a very deflect fee ottomans even considered themselves Roman other, so yes you’re not only pressed but never got passed 6th grade it seems."
Considering you can't even write coherently, this is the perfect example of a black pot calling a white kettle black.
After the son of Mars it's my favorite roman song / music
Once more great song!
the line at 2:40 is enough to make you shiver in the intense summer heat! can't get enough of it

Sounds like a song, to sing after a long and hard legionairs day.
We in the Roman Pagan community utterly adore these songs
More legionary hymns would be great
Unfortunate how the Empire converted to Christianity, split, than fell. Than, for the next 1000 years Europe kept burning women for being "Witches" and that sort of thing.

Thats actually only like...
Less than 5% true.
Through the whole of the Medieval Period, less than a dozen women were ever actually executed on grounds of "witchcraft"
Sure, many women were *accused*...
"..The Church has no reason to seek out or persecute any witches, because their power does not exist."
"It was the Error of Pagans to believe in some other divine power than The One God."
Sure there are exceptions in history, but it was, and *should* be said..
The exceptions *do not* make the rules.
Love the classic Latin pronunciation 🤩
