    Definitely need to quiet that fan down.

    • @gerGoPrint3D
      @gerGoPrint3D  5 месяцев назад +1

      That's an easy upgrade. With the exception of my SV07+ I've replaced the board cooling fans in all my printers for quieter ones. SV07+ comes with temperature controlled fans, which is a game changer. The SV07/Plus is such an underestimated device. But I have to say, this idle mode fan noise is the only negative I can say about the SV08. Sovol team really did their best here!

    I got mine a few days ago. Already did some changes (they are not nessasary, but nice2have):
    1. The original eMMC is just 8GB, wich limits the number of space for gcode and timelapses. As as the lazy guy I am, I never clear up anyway. So I copyed the firmware to an 32GB (from Qidi...). The filesystem expands automaticly. So just make a backup of original eMMC and write it to the new one. Cost about 24€.
    2. The controllerboard fan was replaced by an Noctua 24V 4010.
    3. I ordered the Revo coldend the next Layer had designed for the SV08. However, I can not recommend this. The tollerances are not perfect, I had to postprocess a bit. This went wrong. The coldend is now not perfectly perpendicular to the bed - and the nozzle (the heatbreack part) bended. Destroyed 2 Revo nozzles (they still work, but definitly not usable in other hotends anymore). However, on printables is a design for an Adapter to use Bambulab X1C/P1P/P1S coldends on the SV08. So I now ordered the Biqu Panda Revo for the P1S to try it with this adapter.
    4. Just got the Biqu microprobe. Will try it next weekend. But actually the Revo nozzles are so precise manfactured, I do not think I have to recalibrate z-offset often anyway.
    5. The BTT 5 inch HDMI Touchscreen works quite well. With 38€ quite affordable. However, I also ordered an 11€ HDMI foil-cable to route HDMI invisible from the ouside port back into the printer and internaly to the display. The USB-cable is more easy: There is an internal free USB-Port on the controller...
    If everythink works as intended, I will maybe build my ERCF. This is the main reason for me to change to a revo. Putting a standard flow revo inside instead of a high flow, you can get quite a nice fillament tip on unload. Like on the mk3s with revo or the mk4. At least with well dryed PLA and ABS (PetG always is a bit stringy). Imho the best way to get a filamentchanger without cut&poo and all the waste. I realy hope someone finds a way to connect Anycubics new ACE pro to klipper...

      Congrats and big thank you for the detailed tips!
      1. Cool tip! I might do this. Yes the Q1 Pro comes with 32GB, 12x more free space!
      2. Must-do-upgrade. Why Sovol keeps using these loud fans?
      3. I never understood the commotion about switching out the hotend / extruder. I am very happy with the stock extruder. Now that I am comparing with the Q1 Pro I see how spoiled we are with the amazing Sovol extruders.
      4. That is something I should do. The stock probe is garbage and a big limitting factor.
      5. I am testing a BTT K-Touch (video soon) and my Sovol screen is on its way. Great tips for connectivity!
      6. Yes, ERCF is on my radar as well. I am eager to get into multi-material.
      Thanks again for sharing your insights-your upgrades, experiences and enthusiasm really add value to the community!

      @@gerGoPrint3D 2) The fan Sovol uses is about 1€. A Noctua is about 15€. Not everyone needs a quite fan, so it's OK.
      2) The hotend the SV08 uses is quite new. So quite hard at the moment to get different nozzles. So I definitly understand if someone changes the hotend/nozzle. Also if you already have other printers with a lot of different nozzles/hotends, it might be a good idea to change the new printer to the same system. I already have a bunch of printers with Revo and also standard flow, high flow and ObXidian nozzles in multiple diameters. So instead of buying different nozzles/hotends for the SV08 (when available) it is much better to convert the SV08 to a Revo. Same for Bambulab X1C/P1S/P1P users: If you already have a set of different hottends (different diameters, bras and hardened steel) it makes sense to print a simple adapter and make adapter cables to use them in the SV08, instead buying a whole new bunch of hotends with different nozzles for the SV08 only.
      For changing extruders: While the extruder the SV08 uses is good in most cases, the distance between the gears and the hotend is a bit higher than on other designs. If you want to print softer TPU, changing to an revo roto extruder can help. Also of course if you want to build a toolchanger, you might want to use a tool that is already designed instead modifying the existing one.
      Also of course modding can be a hobby of its own. I have seen someone using Prusas Nextruder on a Voron 2.4, using his own code to make use of the loadcell. Quite fascinating ;-)
      Bur you are right; in most szenarios there is no real need to change the complete extruder. But it can be fun...

    How is the Z offset and the build plate heating? I heard the build plate can get "bumps" from uneven heat. Thanks for the video, I am very interested in the 08.

    • @gerGoPrint3D
      @gerGoPrint3D  5 месяцев назад +1

      The Z-offset issue in preproduction units were caused by inaccurate inductive probes which were too sensitive to temperature changes. Initial tests here show improvements. I haven't experienced any bed adhesion issues, so far, but I don't have the equipment to create a proper heat map of the printbed. I'll do my best to provide some measurements for the next video.

      Yes, you can either use a more expensive / higher quality replacement blower, or just cut a bigger hole and put in a dirt cheap 80mm fan like I did... My fan upgrade actually costed nothing, because I simply use an old CPU cooler and run it at about 50% of its max speed, so it is almost compeletely quiet, but because of its size moves plenty enough air. Cutting a big hole was a bit of a challenge though...

      54cm, but you'll also need min 5cm on the left side for the power plug which sticks out on the side of the machine. So overall you need 5cm on the left and about 16cm on the right (including a std 1kg spool on the holder)

    Great video. Liked and subscribed. One question, did you order the side panels and HDMI screen when you ordered the printer or are they something you plan to order in the future? I'm curious because I ordered the side panels and touch screen with the printer, then I saw they each had their own release dates. So I'm wondering are they going to wait until everything is released and ship together or are they sending it out as they release? I'm hoping they ship as released so I can get my hands on the printer sooner. Love the built in bookshelf, great opportunity for a secret door there, lol.

      You won't need to wait extra if you ordered with accessories! I too am getting side panels and the official HDMI screen. But the printer was sent ahead of these. Afaik everybody will get their printer first and the accessories later. They are also sending a kit of nozzles to test (0.2mm - 0.8mm). I will make videos of them all!

    Hi Gergő! I also received the SV08, but the package is missing the PTFE tube and the quick connector! Could you tell me how long the PTFE tube is?
    Your video was helpful because I saw that the small tool box had the pipe. Also, the Z belt was noisy for me too, but I cleaned it :)

    • @gerGoPrint3D
      @gerGoPrint3D  4 месяца назад +1

      I am sure Sovol will send you the missing components. The PTFE tube is 73cm long in total, it's made up of a longer 60cm piece and a shorter 12cm piece and we have a connector between them (I think you can see that in my videos). Outer diameter 4.2mm and wall width 0.8mm gives an inner diameter of 2.6mm. I had the feeling mine was not the only machine with rattling Z pulleys :) I think they rushed these first batches too much, not waiting for the loctite to properly dry before assembly.

    will the sovol mk8 nozzles work on the sv08?

    • @gerGoPrint3D
      @gerGoPrint3D  5 месяцев назад

      Not out of the box. The SV06 uses the old, low flow rate MK8 standard. All their newer printers use high flow nozzles, which can print much faster and handle special filaments better. With the T300 and SV08 they upgraded their high flow nozzle to an even newer, better standard which looks and works similar to the nozzles Bambu Lab printers use. They are not compatible, but look similar with an integrated heat block.
      You can get the new nozzle for the SV08 in various sizes from 0.2mm to 0.8mm in a kit. It is sold at reasonable prices (see links in the description of this video).
      Having said this, there are already community mods available to enable the extruder to work with many different nozzle standards. Check out Nadir's video where he talkes about this.

    I received my SV08 yesterday. I found one of the heatsinks floating the the box. I found it came from the Y axis motor driver. The compound they used was very dry and would not hold it on. Any suggestion's? What do you use for heatsink compound? Thanks

    • @gerGoPrint3D
      @gerGoPrint3D  3 месяца назад

      It must have had a rough trip. The trouble with the main board that it is up-side-down, so you really need thermal adhesive (double sided thermal tape) to hold those heatsinks, not just paste.
