    Super helpful Tara! I got my H1-B recently and I think the only thing you didn't mention is that the H1-B is based on a lottery system. So, even if you get your employer to sponsor you and get your application approved by the US, there's a quota of about 85,000 which means you only have a 1 in 3 chance of actually getting the visa. It's probably the worst thing about it and definitely something to consider before applying! So happy for you and your O-1!!

Every state is drastically different in laws, weather, wildlife, manners, lingo, food and more. Then, make sure you get medical insurance, it goes a long way. Lastly, if you want citizenship, to pass the test always do pre tests, most of the answers aren't obvious and have to do with us history

      You would need to check this up but worldwide income as far as I know cannot be stopped under those visa's.
      If you were a student for example you could have funds from family or from business investments or a loan. You would need to check this with a lawyer.

    I’m wanting to move to America when I’m 18+ but I’m getting stressed out about all this stuff. Apparently you have to live in America for 5 years until you can apply to become a full citizen. And then you have to worry about visas to be able to earn money. The green cards and the costs of flights. Then of course you have to worry about your living situations.

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 5 лет назад

      You will find that applies to every country on earth. They are all very similar. The difference with America is that it is far easier to make it there.
      Applying for US citizenship requires that you live their for a period of time which is natural as they have to assess if you are suitable for citizenship. Green cards last for 10 years but they are hard to come by.
      Nobody really wants to say it but it but I will getting a green card through marriage is the easiest route. The problem is that it will require meeting somebody that you love and want to marry. It is much easier for women to get a visa by this route. It will require you to travel to America to meet someone though.
      Other options are O1 visa that means being gifted in some field or a work sponsored visa which again is really difficult to obtain.

    It's important to understand that NYC is very expensive by US standards. For some reason most people who come to America tend to go to expensive cities and I am not sure why. I would avoid NYC, Seattle, San Francisco, Boston, Denver, Washington DC, Miami, LA, San Diego, basically all of California. Places that are affordable and have good opportunities are most of Texas, most of Tennessee, most of North Carolina, parts of Florida, and then depending on your occupational skills most of the south.

      Places that want staff to have a visa are usually in fields that are saturated. There are probably large numbers of people they can choose from. To get a job in America and then a visa would need to be an exceptionally gifted person with no competitors for the job.
      An O1 visa allows people who are above average to get a visa in the US such as actors, athletes, chef's or other crafts. Now some people who get that visa will already have an independent income and are not relying on US employment to survive.
