It's one of the most gender-imbalanced careers in the world, something like 3% female. I don't think this is cultural or hierarchical though, because aviation is very rigid and meritocratic - I think most women just really don't want to be airline pilots. edit - an obvious flaw in the above reasoning that I didn't explore: even if it's true that most women just don't want to be pilots, that itself could be a cultural artifact. But this is looking at the issue backwards. It's a lousy and boring job, so rather than asking "why don't more women want to be pilots" the more pertinent question would be "why do any men want to be pilots". The irrational inclination of men towards boring and unhealthy jobs probably *is* a cultural artifact that ought to be addressed, but feminists are unlikely to find it interesting, and would rather raise the ratio of women in these jobs (because they pay well, and are therefore "good" in our values) than reduce the existence of boring and unhealthy jobs.

I loved the neutral, factual representation Clint Eastwood gave to Sully. Sure, he exaggerated some things for dramatic effect, but all in all the movie has a very unexcited and almost documentary style to it.
The reality was more than dramatic enough. First successful water landing of a plane that size, anywhere. First successful water landing of a plane even half-way close to that size, anywhere. The precision of the angle of impact was insane. Anyone who thinks that drama is expressed by shouting and random half-violent movement has a) watched too many moves AND b) never been in a serious real-life situation, ever.

When you declare "Mayday" you no longer request. You state. You state where you're going and when you're going to be there. You no longer wait for clearance...you already have it. Please make more videos of her breaking down flight scenes, @Wired! :) :)
My cousin is a pilot and she says that whoever makes the decisions about protocols (can’t remember the name) are considering getting rid of the two-pilot system to save money despite how effective it is at catching human error. I hope that never comes to fruition.
Hey, they already got arid of the navigator eons ago. Flying is so automated these day but the pilot is relatively small cost. There are more effective ways to save money without adding risk.
It’s not going to happen, governments will never legalize it.
@@insayn7995 lets hope, juts look at all the suits regard driverless cars let alone planes. Remember flying cars, that will never happen. Some predictions are not well thought out.
Yea that’s most likely going to happen eventually
@@insayn7995 of lobbyists throw enough money at it the regulations will change.
This is like a win win, she's cute and knowledgeable on a subject I have Interest in
It’s very unflattering to freeze frame people in mid speech (so thumbs down on the editing)
Meanwhile, thumbs up to the Pakistani fighter pilot / commercial airliner -> love her break down & take down!
intelligent, professional and beautiful, great video, awesome woman.
@@alisoncircus I think the exxaggerated part was mostly the hearing that was much more confrontational an accusatory in the movie than it really was (for dramatic effect) the rest, not so much...
Lol her face during flight, watching that crap is priceless😂 I’m sure any pilot who watched that movies made that face
Helicopter pilot *in training* here,
But going inverted seems like such a well thought and feasible idea!!
@@MattNeufy Pilot these days are basically taught nothing about how to handle stalls like they used to do. It is not at all like in the movies, 5 degrees flap and a 5% power gets these lumbering beasts going again.
What a lovely way to learn about the topic.
She has to be the prettiest pilot I've ever seen, at the same time so knowledgeable. Yeah I'd feel super safe with her in the seat
until she steals your wallet...
For the movie Flight, its based on a real crash. Alaska airlines 261 where the jack screw failed due to poor maintenance. (not enough oil or lubrication on the threads i believe) Look it up, as they also tried to fly inverted but crashed into the ocean. Unlike the movie, no one survived.
The inverted flying was the ONLY thing this trash movie and that real flight had in common.
Knew the Capt on that flight. Captain Ted Thompson. Great pilot, great person. Worked with him at Continental, Jet America then the meger with Alaska.
can she review Flightplan next time? i know its not much of "flying" per se, but im always curious about all the airplane structure depicted in that film!
I could watch her talk all day! I think I'm in love. LoL.
I love your commentary about the movie clips, Captain. Thank you for your RUclips video, I really enjoyed it. Keep the skies friendly 😊
Movies be like some random dude instant Ly learns how to fly a plane
*At least this video is about my passion rather than doctors reviewing Gray's Anatomy*
Grey's*
@@TheAviationChannel Grace*
@@WalterWhiteFromTheBlock 😅i have checked that it is actually Grey's anatomy
@@TheAviationChannel If you would watch doctors reviewing Grey's Anatomy, you would know the difference between Gray's Anatomy and Grey's Anatomy ;)
You could just not watch the ones that don't interest you personally...
Finally catching up on Technique Critique, and I love how they casually had a woman of middle eastern descent as the expert in a traditionally male field. Nothing political about it, but the person they got just challenges a lot of the stereotypes and assumptions we can have.
Pakistani to be specific. Thank you to Pakistan for throwing her out so America can have her. What would we do without fateema shafi?
Love planes so much. Great you finally brought a pilot on this series. Come fly with me, let’s fly let’s fly away. Frank Sinatra is a legend
She forgot to mention Air Koryo is the best airline
I swear you're Swiss001's favourite commentor
@@TheAviationChannel lol true
It goes without saying
0 fatalities since 1983, only 1 fatal crash in 64 years of operation, and you guys have a very rare and exotic fleet!
Swiss 001 will entere the chat soon
Wow! I REALLY liked this video! …and I really liked captain Fatima. Bring her back!
When you declare "Mayday" you no longer request. You state. You state where you're going and when you're going to be there. You no longer wait for clearance...you already have it. I've heard WAAAAAY too many situations where after a declaration, the crew is still requesting things like altitude and heading. ATC should already be clearing traffic around them in anticipation of unexpected maneuvers.
She seems super super professional and just as smart I like these videos
Her father is a super super professional criminal too. I mean not everyone can obtain illegal funds.... www.dawn.com/news/13601
She's great 😍 you should definitely make more videos with this pilot
She is amazing! The way she explain the things...Awesome!
What a beautiful lady and elegant speaker!
I wanna hear her take on the movie “Catch me if you can”
I love watching her watch the scenes.
shame that in remote she didn't get the round of applause that she deserved after! great vid
This was fascinating! One of the best ones. Plz have her back!
It's really disconcerting when they stop the interviewee to show the scene. It'd be just as interesting to see their facial reactions, since that says more than their words can.
Yeah, other channels do that. Wired stinks
I absolutely loathe flying, but watching this vid was delightful. Ms Shafi speaks in a way that's perfectly understandable and also entertaining. I would definitely watch more. :D
I really like her very much lol. It's cool learning all this stuff and she is very pretty.
