Fried okra is a vegetable, used in gumbos and other Cajun dishes but fried is one of the best ways to have it. You can also get it pickled.
Love wickles pickled okra
I think you mean OKRA is a vegetable, not fried okra. 😁
@@offthesidelines Fried okra USED TO be a vegetable. 😂
My family calls fried okra Southern popcorn. Lol.
Nobody needs to talk about okra unless it's fried or pickled
This whole series of jolly in the south is great
Then y'all gotta try and watch Brits try waffle House next.
Was just about to post this
Yes! Part 2!
Waffle House video is hilarious!
I was just going to say that. 😂
They’re even funnier when they’re drunk😂
Okra is a vegetable popular with southern soul food. I love it
As a Pennsylvanian, I've had okra.....
Think of it like if pepper/capsaicin, and celery in its looks. Though I've had it in a low-end canned gumbo. In that example, it wasn't that bad! Like anything, I have to have it properly.
@@frankisfunny2007 my personal favorite is just frying it like what they had in the vid. Some folks are out off by the texture of it but again I love it
I've never had "good" okra. It's always been slimy. Okra and grits (also never good) should both be served with a shovel for discreet burial.
@@Rebekahdavignon okra and grits are 🔥 🔥 🔥
@@Rebekahdavignon some places can cook it using the breaded and fried method to help with that. My dad doesn't like it either for that reason. You do you though friend. I won't stop loving it :)
I love seeing people form other cultures loving our food 🙂 welcome to America, I hope you have the best time ever! So glad they enjoyed it!
I just saw this video as well. Congrats Beesleys, I hope you guys are taking things easy. Also cherish the time and memories. Children grow up faster than you think.
Brunswick Stew is one of my favorite Southern dishes. I’ve never had sausage in it and that sounds delicious. The recipe I use is one we got from a family friend and I love it.
Have y'all watched "British Highschoolers Try Biscuits and Gravy for the First Time!" yet? It's an instant classic.
You'd enjoy most of it, I imagine. Brunswick stew is a hearty tomato-based stew with beans, veggies, and some sort of game meat. Every area does it a bit different, but the dies is the same.
The brisket is an experience. People often say it is like meat and more like beefy butter. It has the softest texture and a very mild smoked taste without seasoning or sauce added.
BBQ baked beans are my favorite summer side. I grow my own beans and make it fresh.
Some other sides I don't see on this table are baked Mac n Cheese, hush puppies, banana bread pudding, and devil's food cake. Yum!
I watched one of their vids where they tried biscuits and gravy and sweet tea. They were so funny.
Safe travels to you both and, James, make sure Millie doesn't overdue things. You are both awesome and I wish you the best from Arkansas
Maybe you’re able to have some shipped. Congratulations on the mini Beesley
Mr.H reacted to this to, his was great, I can't wait to see yours! Congratulations on the Baby! Love Y'all ❤ 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 ❤
Don't watch cooking shows so I've never heard of Noah, but I have huge respect for him for the Class Act of helping others in need with not only Hurricane victims but to go help Ukrainians as well!
These three guys eating at Waffle house at 3 am and drunk is funny as hell.
Waffle House is the late night drunk dining experience of the South.
And completely appropriate.
They better be prepared to eat and fight if they go to the Waffle House at 3am
They could not have gone with a better Waffle House guide as well. Absolutely hilarious, and a PERFECT Waffle House visit
This was such a great video. WAY too many times people who have no idea what they are doing come over to try BBQ in the South for the first time and mess it up. They always end up ordering one off stuff that nobody ever really eats, or worse eating in boutique restaurants that try to fancy up traditional Southern comfort food. Noah really did an amazing job helping these guys order the right things and showing them everything. And yes, when done right, it REALLY is that good. Oh... and 2:50 James' reaction is wonderful. Like he learned a new super power!
Yep. Joel and Lia😊
@@dalemoore8582 Yeah, those two had me shaking my head.
Agree 100%. BBQ should never be ordered from a restaurant that's too fancy. Cloth napkins, no. Roll of paper towels on the table, YES.
@@dalemoore8582 They were the first ones I thought of. I quit watching them after their visit to Hooters. They do very little research, and just don't get it.
@@rickarmstrong9793 yes and Lia really doesn't like the US. She is very negative. I stopped watching when Lia said the Statue of Liberty was "overrated" I had enough of her.
😂😂😂 oh I loved this one 👏🏻
Thank you had fun 🙋♀️
🙋♀️💜☮️🇺🇸
Southerners are a force to be reckoned with and so is the food. Millie, it might become a challenge to watch these video's when the cravings start.
These two are my FAVORITE!!! They are so freaking funny. I absolutely could binge watch both of their channels. They do amazing trips and keep it hilarious.
Congrats on the baby!!!!
If you guys ever do get the chance to come to the US, I highly recommend the South. A lot of people want to to visit LA or NYC, but honestly, the South is just SO much more laid back, with just as much to keep you occupied, and absolutely amazing regional food.
In terms of the south, Florida is usually where people like because the Gulf beaches are nice with White sand, or Miami (I don't recommend Miami, especially if you have kids), but where these 2 went (Savannah, GA) is AMAZING for families, and WAYYYY more chill. They have beaches a short ride away on Tybee Island, some AMAZING history (pirates and all kinds of stuff), lots of drinking culture (if you're into that), and great places for families, and as you can see in this vid, insanely good food.
Oh Snap! Haven't seen you guys in my recommendations for a bit, and you're having a kid?! Congrats!!
Okra ..is a vegetable usually found in Gumbo and other Cajun Dishes ..though growing up mom cut it into pieces and fried it and that was our popcorn...
I'm moving to NE Florida October 1st. One hour south of Jacksonville, so I'm close enough to Georgia I'm going to find that restaurant! I have to now.😄
You two are so cute. Congratulations on the new Beesley coming! Fried okra with fried green tomatoes is my favorite dish!.
Ok this one had me rolling. Not only were the guys killing me, but Millie talking about Gordon Ramsy and the kids made me spit out laughing.
That my friends was a treat.
I was literally watching Jolly's video of this when I got your notification 😅😅
Same!!!
I believe these guys did a video where British kids in grade nine try American biscuits and gravy. It was surprising to me what they say about it. Okra is a vegetable.
Yeah, the kids thought biscuits were weird scones, which is true. But what they did not get is that the gravy is béchamel sauce made the way rustic French people really made it hundreds of years ago.
Similarly, the Chicken Fried Steak of Texas is the actual real schnitzel impoverished Germans made 150 years ago. But we serve it with cream gravy, which is béchamel.
That's the video where I found the Jolly channel lol Josh and Ollie are hilarious. Hope they do more reactions to them
Jolly is such a great channel, love those guys! It's fried okra, sooooo good. Okra is a vegetable.
Great reaction! I also love their video where the schoolboys try biscuits n gravy and sweet tea.
Making Texas style brisket this weekend, as it happens. I live in Nebraska but previously lived in Texas for 17 years where I learned to properly barbecue. I have family coming from the other side of Omaha and from across the state in Wyoming for the barbecue.
As others have mentioned, okra is a vegetable. I grow a little in my garden every year. Great in soups and gumbos.
Saw this on the Jolly channel. The guys do great try videos.need to show more of them
From Missouri to Kentucky and down through the south we fry every thing 😂. Snickers, pizzas, Oreo’s, ice cream. One unique thing to Missouri pork steak.
I didn’t know you two were having a kid! Congratulations!
When you get over here, you HAVE TO try EVERYTHING!!!
Brunswick stew is not an acquired taste but more of a acquired visual. Most people not of the south, get a bit queasy at the sight of Brunswick stew but the taste is amazing. So close your eyes and take a heaping spoonful. You’ll love it. Our baked beans are generally dark brown from the brown sugar in them and topped with onions and bacon. Okra is a vegetable of the south. Served fried (my favorite), stewed, boiled, broiled, pickled, or served in gumbo. It goes well with fried green tomatoes and grits. We used to grow okra in the backyard and had to pick it with gloves on because of the prickly thorns/spikes/needles (need help here. Not sure what to call the prickly fuzz on the plant)
When it comes to food... Louisiana is where it's at. Tx BBQ just to our left, Cajun food down home. Even the gas station food along I-10 is awesome!
The food makes living here worthwhile.
Dudes, Okra is an Vegetable. We grow huge Vegetable Gardens and Okra, Kale, Mustard Greens, Spinach, various types of Green Beans, Collard Greens, Jalapenos, Habaneros, Sweet Peppers, various Squash: Crookneck, Yellow Summer, Zucchini & Winter types, Onions, I love Walla Walla Sweet Onions, Corn, Sweet Peas, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Tomatoes...etc. Ya'll know that Grits are Hominy... but we eat em here in Oregon too. Deep Fried Corn on the Cob, grill veggies on barbeque too. Gotta have Blackberry, Marionberry, Apple or Pear Pies for desserts
Congratulations y’all! May God grant y’all many years of happiness and blessings!
I grew 6 rows of Okra last year. It's so prolific I filled up the freezers of three families with nothing but Okra. Okra came to the USA from Africa during the slave trade. It is extremely popular in the south.
Real Southern food, such as this, does not just involve "frying" everything. Some of the best cooked pork/Beef dishes I have ever had have come out of the (barbecue) pits of a Southern Pitmaster with decades of experience perfecting the smoking/cooking process.
Frying is for the bacon, some of the sides, and the chicken (and occasionally fish).
Oh yeah, i'm so happy you guys are reacting to these guys. They are fun to watch, trying the american food. I like them
Aww! I love Korean Englishman and Jolly channels! This video was near and dear to my heart as someone from the US south
lol "you cant have any pudding until you finish your meat! How can you have pudding if you don't eat your meat?" Pink Floyd reference. LOL that was funny.
Okra is a vegetable that if it is not cooked properly is very slimy but it is absolutely delicious when cooked correctly.
You guys will love it all.
I LOVE fried okra!!! can't miss that!
Yea he won master chef. He’s a great dude
I use the twist and pull method on the wing. You twist one bone and pull it out and all the meat is on one of the bones and just stick it in your mouth and pull the meat off with your mouth. Less messy that way.
I love Jolly Channel. I love watching when they have schoolchildren trying American food.
Okra are seed pods. Sort of like a bean pod. It's related to cotton, and cacao (the plant cocoa/chocolate is made from).
They also make you poop if you are not used to eating okra.
Eating a smoked brisket for dinner. I’ve been smelling it all day. They should make a candle that smells like this!! Yummy.

Okra is a vegetable that can served a number of ways:
Pickled
Fried
Boiled
Bacon wrapped
Baked
And it's also an ingredient that's used in soups and stews, especially in Cajun and Creole Cuisine
Fried okra is a green vegetable. Lots of nutrients.
You mean okra is a vegetable - you're also making it sound like it grows naturally fried. 😆
@@offthesidelines 😆
And importantly, it makes new pods in bug/heat season from mid-July to late August. You let a few pods get fully mature in September and October, and then replant them in February because the bees have shared good genes.
'Okra' is a type of plant commonly grown in the South. Delta State University in Mississippi has an anthropomorphic Okra as their mascot. They are commonly called the "Delta State Fightin' Okra's".
They’re HILARIOUS! Always have me in tears at some point!😂
Okra: a green vegetable that very closely resembles a jalapeños shape but has more of a squash like texture. When you eat it raw it’s slightly crunchy but when you do the glorious wonderfulness of deep frying it in a light breading, it gets sort of slimy & soft on the inside. Very tasty fried! Heck, I’ve even baked okra before and it still turned out amazing.
Whoa they went to Wileys? It’s the best bbq restaurant in the country! They don’t skimp in the portions either. Noah is the legend n is such a great guy n has been working there forever and he knows his barbecue! Welcome to America boys!
Northerner here (northern Illinois close to Wisconsin). Southern food is outstanding. Great stuff that we don’t typically get up here. We’ve got good food up here too. Just different.
Okra is a vegetable that tastes great when fried. It’s also a main ingredient in gumbo.
Okra is a green vegetable that can be a little slimy, best fried. Can be used as a side dish.
Okra is a seed pod from a garden plant. It is known to be sticky until you cook it 🤔
Abelmoschus esculentus, known in many English-speaking countries as ladies' fingers or ochro, is a flowering plant in the mallow family.
I am so happy for you both...congrats!!!!
Blue cheese salad dressing. The traditional dip with Buffalo wings. Though it's supposed to be for the carrot sticks and celery you eat to cool down your mouth.
While we’re on the topic:
Just for clarity, Buffalo wings aren’t bbq. For that matter, most “bbq chicken” is not bbq.
This is at Wiley's in Savannah, GA. I highly recommend y'all go visit there!
You should also try "Brits try Southern Biscuits and Gravy for the first time!"
Fried okra is one of my favorite vegetables 😂
Fried okra is great. I also like it with stewed tomatoes and onions.
OMG! CONGRATULATIONS 🎉
James the closest you can get to a proper Southern baked beans is Bushes Southern pit BBQ beans in a square glass baking dish, with Wright brand bacon on top, bake at 350F until bacon is close to being done.
I would add a little extra molasses
Great show!
Okra was one of the crops my family grew. When you pick it make sure to cover up your skin or you will itch. You would learn how to cook it in many ways and serve it alone or in other dishes.
Okra is a veg in the south. It is also used to make Gombe thicker.
On that same trip, they also had biscuits with sausage gravy. Later, they brought that back to some English school boys.
Jolly is a great channel. You should react to more of their stuff. I think you'd like them.
And congratulations on the big news!
Okra is a popular southern vegetable, It's used in Creole cooking a lot, like in gumbo.
these 2 british guys youtube channel is awesome!!
Okra is also known as Lady's finger in UK. Very popular in Southern, African, and Indian food.
But first of all our congrats on your future child and I hope he gets to do great things in the future and make sure he stays out trouble ❤.
Fried Oakes is the best! I eat it like popcorn! ❤️❤️
9:00 Did you know that Heinz is an American company? It started in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They expanded the company over the years and adapted to making products for the pallets of the other countries they were selling their products to. There’s an actual Heinz museum in Pittsburgh.
Texas ain't got the only BBQ in the US! You two need to watch videos on regional styles of barbecue, & on which style is best.
Josh Carrot bloody loves food! I’ve seen that man eat barely toasted toast before just because 😂
Brisket is worth it. Usually it’s best from a hut on the side of the road with odd hours and days of operation. It’s pricey now though. FYI: it’s great with fresh grated wasabi
Think of okra as a slimy asparagus-like veggie. Hundreds of ways to prepare it and yum!
Different regions have different barbecue styles.
I used to help my dad and uncle barbecue half a hog. It would be 18 to 24 hours, so we would take shifts. It was enough to feed up to 60 people.
Try the Carolinas for delicious pulled pork with a variety of sauces. Eastern North Carolina uses a vinegar based sauce primarily, tomato based sauce in the western part and mustard based is predominate in South Carolina. All good!!!
There are several Texas BBQ restaurants in London. You should do a reaction from one. You'll need a lot of napkins or paper towels but you're going to love every bite of it.
😂😂 the hot pie was hilarious
Okay, full stop: chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie. They're being cautious there. *That* is Derby pie. They can't call it that, because the name "Derby Pie" is trademarked by Kern's Bakery in Louisville, Kentucky. Derby pie is Kentucky's contribution to southern cuisine, and you guessed it! It's traditionally eaten during horse racing season, and specifically during the Kentucky Derby. Even in Kentucky, everybody makes it, but only Kern's can call it that, so you also see it as "May Day pie", "horse racing pie", or "chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie".
How do you make pecan pie better? Add chocolate chips and bourbon to it, of course!
LOVE Brunswick Stew!
Same! I made some last month. Have half in the freezer 😊
There is another southern tradition that is similar to Hawaiian tradition. Instead of roasting and turning the pig over a grill or fire pit, southerners would did a hole, put hot coals in with a tarp over it, then the pig with stuffed herbs, then another tarp with hot coals on top. The difference is that Hawaiians use palm leaves instead of tarp to add flavor. Then they bury the hole. Leave it over night, by next afternoon, there is a cooked pig. You don't have to add bbq sauce or salt. That is often how they made pulled pork.
I live on the border of Texas and Oklahoma in the USA. We are considered beef country because of our cattle. BBQ is a staple of our diet and this is NOT exaggerated. The best food is found in the south and if on the coast, the seafood is incredible. When you guys visit, you should know though that even in the south, there are delights to be found that are that states delicacies. You will NEVER be hungry in the south.
Okra is a vegetable and it’s very profound in the south we have it pickled and fried
Didn't know you guys were having a baby! Congratulations
Okra is a vegetable kinda looks like a pepper. If you cook it too long it gets really slimy so it’s not super popular outside the south. Having it fried or in gumbo is how I recommend having it.
I think some of Jolly's best videos are the ones where they did the series with the British high schoolers trying either Korean food or American food.
Id love to see a vlog of you guys showcasing british foods and location, that woukd be cool.
Okra is an old veggie originating from North America just like tomatoes, peppers, etc. Okra is used a lot in Cajun cuisine to thicken gumbo (ground seeds).
OMG I’m laughing so hard right now! Fried okra is definitely not fish! It’s a vegetable! Famous down in the south n Texas! Y’all are too cute
