Windows 11 had a lot of ease of use/quality of life upgrades for WSL2. I’ve enjoyed it so far as Windows is easier for a daily driver but being able to use kali for a few security/networking utilities and Ubuntu that I have built for managing a few raspberry pi projects.
@@mahdi-hasan Should be a similar process to this video, probably even a little simpler. Though this isn't the only option either. I've followed a few videos on getting linux guis on windows, though I found that for my needs I rarely need more than a terminal so I don't use it much anymore.
@@alexismajaw9120 that’s a bit too broad of a question, but yes it is possible to use this feature for penetration testing or unconventional access. Great video sir !!! 1. But will it come with all the functions that Kali has inbuilt in it 2. Which is better having a virtual machine with Kali installed in it or using this way of install it with WSL
That’s really great method to install kali, easy and practical. Totally better than having it on vms. One question, does it support the built-in network adapter out of the box? Or should we also use an external adapter.
What your sorry ass doesn't realise is that this is an experiment, nothing more. It doesn't have hardware access. You can't assign external WiFi cards to it. These are just useless gimmicks. The best and the recommended method will always be to use Kali in a VM or bare metal. Not like this.
Thank you so much, David!! I've been having some issues running Kali-Linux in my VirtrualBox & instead i just rather went to use the kex --win -s command which has Kalki-Linux up and running in now time! Thank you sir!! "Never gonna give you up never gonna let you down!!" Q U A L I T Y !!!
What i found that was interesting about wsl2 is that with vcxsrv you can directly run linux apps and any gui straight within windows. Say you wanted to use Dolphin your default file explorer. You can, because your drives are in /mnt/. It takes some tweaking for those apps to actually run though (Ex. using a shell script to run exe files). But you could totally run i3wm or something else as your shell program. It would need a lot of tweaking to, say, show opened apps, but it would probably work fine. There needs to be a project set up to have a Parallels-like experience with linux on windows. That would be cool.
The big downside I have found by doing this is you can't attach a wifi device directly to the Kali instance. So there is no monitor mode for wifi hacking. I didn't try hashcat but I suspect you can't access the GPU either. Seems more limited than a real VM to me. I ended up just bare metal install of Kali and am very happy with that.
U cant bridge network cards and take snapshots. Wsl is good for devs i think.
