That’s really great method to install kali, easy and practical. Totally better than having it on vms. One question, does it support the built-in network adapter out of the box? Or should we also use an external adapter.
What your sorry ass doesn't realise is that this is an experiment, nothing more. It doesn't have hardware access. You can't assign external WiFi cards to it. These are just useless gimmicks. The best and the recommended method will always be to use Kali in a VM or bare metal. Not like this.
Very glad to have found this video tutorial.. Very interesting and informative video, David. I currently run Kali on virtual box. Which install do you think is more beneficial for a new cybersecurity student?
What i found that was interesting about wsl2 is that with vcxsrv you can directly run linux apps and any gui straight within windows. Say you wanted to use Dolphin your default file explorer. You can, because your drives are in /mnt/. It takes some tweaking for those apps to actually run though (Ex. using a shell script to run exe files). But you could totally run i3wm or something else as your shell program. It would need a lot of tweaking to, say, show opened apps, but it would probably work fine. There needs to be a project set up to have a Parallels-like experience with linux on windows. That would be cool.

being a compatibility layer, wsl is mutch lighter than a VM being so able to run at native performance. as far as the choice goes i'm not confortable daily driving kali as wsl instance because being nat-ed, wsl is not exposet to the net and trafic is routed through windows which makes port forwarding the only painful option. so until bridged networking is added you cannot reach back kali (see basic reverse shell as an example) without the painful and "error" prone port forwarding and is not really straight forward if you are a beginner or need to make work done efficiently

You can, I run both. Before starting your VMware VMs, you have to go to Processors under Settings and uncheck the two options under Virtualization Engine.. this is with the paid version of VMware
So, I had issues with virtualbox 6.1.28 after enabling virtual engine in the BIOS. Many others did, too. I believe it is fixed in v-box 6.1.32, but I fixed mine differently. Hi. This helped a lot. But I have a problem. There isn't exit full screen in Kali Linux, I tried everything but nothing helped. Can you please help me with this? Thank you
When I run "kex --win -s" why does it bring a Tiger VNC viewer prompt that says "unable to connect to socket: No connection could be made because the machine actively refused it".
I prefer my Virtual Box implementation as I can have the VM on my larger secondary monitor, ability take snapshots, and ability to access my local network. But to each their own. I ended up deleting the kali-linux partition on my W11 machine.
I'm using Win10 and managed to start kali, but no luck on sound. Also kex --win -s doesn't start in windowed mode here. Or --sl in seamless mode. I don't get sound in any of the modes and when I click the speaker icon I get stuck in "establishing connecting to pulseaudio server...". And yes pulseaudio is allowed on public and private networks in windows firewall. :(
It's now easier than ever to install Kali Linux on Windows 11 using WSL2.

my kex --win -s command isnt working
This worked with no mistakes
When I run "kex --win -s" why does it bring a Tiger VNC viewer prompt that says "unable to connect to socket: No connection could be made because the machine actively refused it".
If you guys are having problems with home just enable virtualization on bios
Awesome. I like this better than virtual box. Do you believe it is as secure and separated from your actual PC as virtual box?
I prefer my Virtual Box implementation as I can have the VM on my larger secondary monitor, ability take snapshots, and ability to access my local network. But to each their own. I ended up deleting the kali-linux partition on my W11 machine.
i dont know why but the wsl --install command is not working in my powershell
it is saying that a connection with the server could not be established
thanks for these lovely topics
I'm using Win10 and managed to start kali, but no luck on sound.
Also kex --win -s doesn't start in windowed mode here. Or --sl in seamless mode. I don't get sound in any of the modes and when I click the speaker icon I get stuck in "establishing connecting to pulseaudio server...". And yes pulseaudio is allowed on public and private networks in windows firewall. :(
good day im learning the machernism used please show how to unistall gui(linux) from windows 11 using console terminals.
Hi Nice video ! Is better have the kali on a VM or with WSL??
How do you mount, connect and manager USBs on Kali Linux using this? I’m trying to connect my HackRF and I can’t figure out how to manage the mounts
