    For the people that want to use this for 'hacking'. For now its not possible to have a reverse shell or a small webserver of some sort through wsl2. Unless you do it with port forwarding, but thats just messy. Virtual machines are still the way to go

    • @nonlinearsound-001
      @nonlinearsound-001 2 года назад +17

      Absolutely. At the moment there is no possibility to set the network adapter into bridge mode so that the WSL2 VM gets a local IP address. So basic tasks like scanning your local subnet using nmap is not possible. Use a hypervisor as long as MS doesn't give you direct network access for your WSL VM. You can then connect to it using VNC to work with its desktop environment.

    Another way to enter bios on windows 10/11 is to hold down shift while hitting the restart button in the start menu. Select troubleshoot, then advance options and then UEFI firmware settings. This is useful when fast boot is enable and sometimes makes it difficult to boot to the BIOS.

    What a story....
    First.. Windows was lonely, didn't have anyone to talk to until Microsoft introduced Windows to Linux, Linux and Windows had a pretty good relationship, they talked to each other, they wrote to each other, messaged each other day and night, until they found each other in a very good relationship that they are now in love.
    Their relationship just got stronger which got them engaged to each other that they are now super connected, and with that, therefore came WSL to gift each other after they had a pretty good date, which lead to an even stronger relationship and Windows just got older which turned it from 10 to 11, and they've been married happily ever after... Got their own things, Windows can now run Linux and Linux can change to look like Windows, and they have made a ton of babies now and having something which is called WSLg... One called Kali, one called Ubuntu, and so on and so fourth... You can now interact with them on Windows and they will act just like themselves.
    And they lived happily ever after,
    The End.

    I would strongly recommend against installing this if you plan on using VirtualBox in addition to this. You will end up breaking all of the virtual machines in VirtualBox and even uninstalling WSL won't help you. If you do this anyway and you want VirtualBox to work again, you will have to open "Turn Windows features on or off" from Control Panel (or just search for it) and then turn off everything related to virtualization and WSL.
    WSL is far from a replacement of running a virtual machine, and some stuff won't work in this environment.

      Do this in Kali linux app:
      1) sudo apt update

      I'd say most likely both. I know that I run Win 11 on my desktop since the beta came out on day 1, but to learn it before it becomes the new norm. Then on my other machines Windows 10 for now. Win 11 still has some bugs but I suspect they will be worked out in the next 6 months or less hopefully. Just like Windows 10 when it first came out. I still miss right clicking on the task bar to get to the task manager, hopefully they will bring it back in a future update.

      hyper-v does not decrese overall performance, the only downside is that you cant really use any other virtualization if you enable it. Virtualbox will run terrible slow, to make it fast again you have to turn off hyper-v but then wsl2 wont work. Other then that there is no issues and perrformance is great. Keep in mind that wsl2 is not really ment to be a secure layer. its mostly intended for developing and testing purposes

    Hey! I was wondering if there are any drawbacks in using WSL as compared to a full kali/linux installation... Do the drivers pose any issues?

    • @Koddunyam
      @Koddunyam 2 года назад +8

      the major drawback is : you are actually not using linux :D joke beside if you wanna learn linux its a good thing but if you want to use linux fully as an Administrator it's just like a VM. As an Linux Administrator I can tell you, it doesn't matter if you use Windows or Linux. They are just Operation Systems. Linux is free and Open Source and if you are really good you can manage the whole system. Windows is paid and you can't actually play/change with the system data.
      Btw the drivers won't have any issues on WSL. Like I said its just a build in VM. And if you just want to learn Linux for Kali Tools stay on Windows and use WSL2. You also can still write Bash Scripts and run them too. (Bash Script is a must know for a ethical hacker. Still my opinion tho.)

    Another kick ass video man, appreciate it. With the VPN segment you should mention the 14 eyes. Extremely important when picking your VPN. Which by the way PIA is a non 14 eyes VPN which is perfect. (It means the U.S. and other countries can not get the data from the VPN provider).

    You can also run kali linux sessions through powershell. Start a powershell session and run as administrator. When you start session run command . After that is installed successfully, run the command and this should start a kali session directly on powershell terminal.
