Turned out great, Peggy! I know exactly what you mean, sometimes life gets in the way. I've spent most of Black Fly Season trying to do stuff around the house instead of working in the shop on a cane I started back in November.

Walnut is one of my favorite domestic woods...my dad carved a lot of beautiful pieces from walnut while I was growing up and I came to love the grain...
This piece is just gorgeous...thanks for sharing it with us...

Nice bowl. Glad the large crack held together with the CA glue. Wow, 3 hours or so is a LOT of sanding. I know the frustration of thinking you have managed to get the tool marks out with a given grit, only to have to go back to previous grits.

Welcome back ... fantastic looking bowl, the contrast of the dark and light parts of the walnut is amazing ... I've done a couple of live edge bowls and found it quite scary, you made it look easy👍

Most importantly the voice over I find it very useful when you explain the tools you use at different stages of the turn. As a beginner I find myself going through the various size of gouges just hoping it is the right tool. I guess I’m learning what fits me best also. Right now it’s a bit difficult to turn as I can’t put any pressure on my right hip. Side line for now except for sanding .

Instead of an apron, consider getting slinky scrubs. The shavings and sawdust slide right off and they are pretty comfortable to work in. Plus, they wash up great. Some chef jackets are high neck. Or pair scrub pants with a turner’s smock.
What are “slinky scrubs”?

@@randyrockwell6136 What I call slinky scrubs are made of polyester and are a smooth fabric that is a bit slippery in feel. They shed everything, including sawdust and shavings. I bought them at a uniform outlet store.
