    It seems like all of these newer Elder Sign expansion render a lot of the base game components obsolete. Wouldn't it make more sense for FFG to release a 2nd edition of the game that is more in line with the direction the expansions have taken?

      That would have been great. I doubt they have any more plans for this game, sadly

    i wish they would have released this as its own game. It doesnt really build upon the previous expansions. For example the gang cards are irrelevant etc and like 80% of the cards care new. How much more would it really have cost to include a few dice and a few more cards in order to have it be a stand alone? game.

    We found it a very harsh and unforgiving adventure (appropriately enough). We did the Streets of Arkham one first or second try but this one hits like an avalanche.

      +Cthulwho? Same here, we got our arse handed to us several times, - but boy'o boy that feeling you get, when you nail this is epic!!!, the new Elder gods are insane, and they'll rip you a new one if you're to slow.
      Also the new characters aren't that great, but they'll get the job done.

    Oh well, I guess at least one year before a release in Germany... But the iOS app is quite solid and btw very much recommended and includes already somehow larger parts of this expansion...

    I think I like this more than the original game. More choices and depth is something AS needed. Looks solid. Any idea if this will be coming to the digital version of AS?

      It's largely a retooling of the Ithaqua quest on the Elder Sign app, including such extras as Storm effects on entry to locations and the investigators consuming supplies or losing Stamina.

    This is pertaining to the board game but you have in the past have been of great help :). Question? Upon completing an adventure card. Then moving to the entrance card during the resolve phase. Are you able to interact with the entrance cards choices at this time? Then go on to the change clock phase. I guess I am really asking is that if I can choose or buy something on the entrance card at this time. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    This is like the Ithaqua adventure add-on to the Elder Signs cell phone game.

      Exactly my thoughts.. Which leads me to believe that we have a new Kthulhu expansion in development.

      The manual actually mentions this as its inspiration and that it borrows from it. I'm very pleased to see concepts from the mobile game making their way over.

    What is better this or Gates of Arkham, wanted to get only one.

      I own and enjoy both, and as Zee mentioned they both have the concept of cards being facedown which is probably the best part of them. Things are less calculated feeling, but still able to be prepared for. If you ONLY want one, I'd recommend Gates of Arkham. The reason for this is that Omens of Ice wouldn't let you re-use quite as much imo, and is also fiddlier and more difficult. With Omens of Ice you really want to use the three GOOs that came with it due to the significance of the storms, with Gates, you can more easily use older ones from other sets and have it feel right (Gates does use a new symbol on their GOOs to spawn more gates, but it doesn't quite add the same type of pressure as the storms and how they interact with the supplies) The progression and the special cards and stages in Omens are awesome and unique though.
      Gates also introduce skill cards (which can be used in Omens), and those are a huge benefit, and something I used often in omens/can't really picture the game without anymore. Basically they are mostly permanent abilities, so they help your character feel as though they are progressing and leveling up. Omens has a feeling of gathering a ton of items in the first act, and then trying to drag out your inventory to finish the game in the second. Without skills it wouldn't feel quite as good to me... a little less climactic and more of a fizzle. You'd run out of stuff, but can't make quite the same last effort.

      David, do you have the same opinion about Omens of the Deep?

    are the item cards/monsters backwards compatible with gates of arkham?

    • @luxordeathbed
      @luxordeathbed 8 лет назад +1

      +Liam Dodsworth They are usable, but it is kind of weird having a yeti walking around, although it could be winter in arkham. Wolves seem the neatest from the game. Midnight they howl and more monsters appear.

    what I want to know is, can you lose? my grp haven't lost in the original game for weeks and it's gonna start to collect dust because it's to easy. will either arkham or this one fix that?

    • @jherrenor
      @jherrenor 8 лет назад +3

      lol, careful what you wish for. Gates of Arkham will obliterate you 90% of the time until you get the hang of the new design then becomes more balanced at around 50-60% fatality rate when you get better at it. Omens of Ice is even harder due to having other priorities to watch out for, a bit too much imo. great games but get Gates as it's less complex and slightly quicker to play and looks less drab.

      gates of arkham makes the game operate much like arkham horror. GoA is the long game version.

    Just couldn't get into Elder Sign....fairly long game when all you are really doing is rolling dice constantly...it gets very repetitive.
