Thanks for another thoughtful and articulate review! I've been on the fence for a long time about this game but the additional narrative element of this expansion may have just tipped me over the edge :)
I love the narrative element. It's interesting how the expansions have moved elder sign from a single museum to a city to now an entire US state. I can only conclude that expansion 4 will take place globally and after that we'll get Elder Sign IN SPAAAAACE
The most in-depth explanation of the details of the game and how the different stages work, best most helpful review I found. Thanks so much, helped me decide for sure that I wanted this game.
I wanted to get the Steam version of the game for a very long time. I think it was almost 2 years, but I never did because FFG refused to put it on sale. On Steam, Elder Sign is essentially dead and they still ask €15 for the game. FFG may have created good board games, but unfortunately, they have no idea how PC market works. Eventually I had enough and I bought just the basic version of the game for Android. Since then I have played the game maybe7-8 times. It relies way too much on luck for my taste. There are times you will lose no matter howwell you play and I hate that in a game. Now I feel fortunate this experience cost me only €2-3 euro and not €15 as they ask for the Steam version.
+cartoon80s90s It's kind of sad the opportunity that FFG and other games companies miss (I'm glaring in your general direction Games Workshop....) by seeing technology as an enemy rather than realizing that they would sell a lot more than just a few thousand copies. In the case of the ios/computer version of Elder Sign, it was made without the first expansion which in my opinion, really makes the game for me because of the sheer volume of stuff it added. (more of everything basically) Hopefully game companies will get this figured out.
+cartoon80s90s I have the iOS version and the actual game + Gates of Arkham and I strongly dislike the app version. The actual game is much more fun. I play it when I am in the mood for Eldritch Horror but do not have the time for it as it's much longer. I like that this "expansion" adds some of the narrative/story that Eldritch and Arkham have.
This seems like more of a stand alone game instead of an expansion that you would you would mix cards in to the base game or any other expansions. Is that a fair statement or am I totally off base?
+Bill Braun you need the dice, the clock and the other worlds cards from the base set, but this is almost its own game. You cannot mix these adventure and mythos cards with other sets, but you can do so with characters, monsters, equipment

Yay so excited to see that Lily Chen will be in this expansion. She's one of my fave characters from Eldritch. :D
I'm a sucker for some lovecraftian horror.
I love this game! Perfect winter game
Thanks for the review! Looks good.

+marcowargamer That's what I figured, thanks for clarifying. I'll be adding this to my wish list, no doubt.
