I have the base game and the Unseen Forces and Gates of Arkham expansions. In my latest playthroughs, I've combined all these 3 "games" and create a huge adventure in the museum and Arkham. House rules mixed with official rules and it's a blast!
I do the same, combining all three sets. It really makes the game so much better. Instead of flipping an Event card on the adventures, I roll a green die when 'moving' to an adventure. It's sort of like a "travel event" in an RPG. If the green dies results in a Peril, I flip a random Event card. This house rule makes the game more unpredictable.
It's never too late to talk about a good game ! I really love Elder Sign both the app and the physical game. By the way, congratulation for such a diversified review channel !
Seems like the expansions are a must have for this game. I originally passed on this game since I enjoy narratives more like in Arkham Horror and MoM, but it looks like there is just enough narrative now with the expansions. I will pick this up now since it seems easier to get to the table and will make a good gateway game to the more complex games. plus its on sale now :)
There's a very good variant where you combine the Gates of Arkham adventure cards and the base game adventure cards with all the Mythos cards. It makes the game more epic. It's the only way I play it.
Hadn't heard of that book - thanks for sharing it. Always learning something new from the Dungeon Dive! Hope you're feeling better - definitely take it easy.
Great overview here. I’m getting back into the physical game myself. Just ordered Unseen Forces. I’ll probably get Gates of Arkham next and then Grave consequences. I have the very first Print run, so Unseen Forces will bring my cards up to date. Already downloaded the latest FAQ and Rules from FFG. I have the App too, played the heck out of it. It’s very convenient, however there are some differences. Even if you buy all the DLC for it, still not as much as the physical copies and expansions. And when your Characters die, they don’t get replaced and they’re gone for good. It’s still a nice and convenient way to experience the game for travel, etc.
Woohoo! It's Halloween time! I'm glad you made this video--I own Elder Sign & Omen's of The Pharoah, but have never gotten them to the table. You've reminded me of why I purchased them--the adventure!!
The FFG App is a faithful reproduction of the game, at 1/4 of the price. I'm not usually a fan of App games, but FFG really went the extra mile with the conversion. It is a great card game but once you have it on your tablet its hard to justify the set up. I play it on train journeys and spookily it always seems to fit the length of time I have to play. Great shout out to a classic.
@@TheDungeonDive - The App, as good as it is, has only a portion of all of the available physical content. So there’s that. Also, when your character dies in the App, there’s no replacement.
5:45 HEY HEY MAN!!! WATCH IT!! DO NOT PRONOUNCE THOSE NAMES OUT LOUD!!! The fabric of reality may shred to pieces all around you..... 😆😉😉😉😉😉😉 Ah.....Elder Sigh! And the Gates of Arkham expansion! What a great game! Too hard to beat but very atmospheric and enjoyable. One of my favourite Mythos games after Eldritch Horror and Arkham Horror. 👍👍
"And that was the last message I got from him that night. Alarmed by his cry for help, not really know what to think and without any clue I got up, put on my leather duster coat, my old trusty Colt 1911 in my pocket and run out in the middle of the night to the nearest airport getting a ticket to his place. I had to search for clues if I wanted to find out what had happened to him.".....😉😆
I'm going to be doing a weird campaign where I play this game then Arkham Horror then Eldritch Horror in some kind of story arc for my vacation. If I lose the current Elder God will branch out to the next game if I win I will have a new Elder God for the next game.
Thanks! Game looks great and I like your enthusiasm. Have Android game but I have just been confused. Hoping your high-level will help. Edit: On enthusiasm...I like that you tell it straight...I don't want constant hype...like so much of RUclips!
Been looking for a starting point for a Cthulhu genre board game. This just might be the correct weight I might be looking for. I hope the expansions you mentioned are still available.
Daniel, have you ever played Arkham Horror: The Card Game? Any thoughts? Supposedly good solo, good narrative, smaller footprint, new distribution model (with all cards of each 8 episode mini campaign in a single box, etc.).
Only a little. I did not like the old distribution model. Too hard to get a full campaign. I also don’t really like deck building. With the new distribution model, I think it’s really expensive for what you get. It’s something like $60 for a few hundred cards.
@@TheDungeonDive Yeah, I'm not huge into deckbuilding either, but I've heard that it is somewhat minimal and I was able to get the original Dunwhich and Carcosa campaigns a while back. I plan on trying it on the easy mode to better experience the stories. That is what interests me the most tbh.
@@TheDungeonDive I definitely ran across 1 or 2 fan-run websites that listed optimized character builds/decks for each capmaign. I need to re-find those...will send your way when I do. 🙂
No I mean the audio is clear unlike the audio from an old tube TV. Thank you for still producing content despite being sick but please take care of your health. There are still alot of adventures to be had.
17:46 I never really understood why people pronounce Greek words starting with "X" as "Z"....like in the word Xenophobia. It's Ksenophobia really. Can you explain to me grammatically what I am missing?
Because English phonology is based on like 5 different languages. We didn’t borrow the word from Greece, we borrowed it from France. ruclips.net/video/7r6tOpGeJmY/видео.html
I really enjoy going back through your archive of reviews. You bring a unique viewpoint that seems to match my own every time. Thanks Daniel!

I only knew this game thoruhg the app, but the table version is a completly different monster!! looks amazin. Thanks a lot for the discovery!!

Watched this video last night, then ended up picking up the game by chance today in a sale. Funny how the universe works!
Hope you like it!
Thanks for this review!! Really nice game! Also, thx for the reading suggestion, I'll make sure to look into it !

I’ve heard it’s very good! I found it a little small on my phone, and I don’t have a tablet.
@@TheDungeonDive Yes, it has to be a tablet.

I love Elder sign, I have also gates of Arkham and unseen forces, and just last week I got omens of the deep, gonna try it soon ^^

Right in. Thanks. Hope you can get to enjoy the game.
Similar to yourself, I like this game but rarely play it?! I have Gates of Arkham and Unseen Forces expansions that I have yet to use.

Everything should still be in print. If it's not available now, just wait a bit.
Yes I found them all. The price point on them definitely has me leaning towards a purchase.
i have all the other FFG arkham games, so i feel like i should probably own this one as well lol. maybe i'll toss it on ye olde xmas liste.
I think it's a good one, and one that gets overlooked, even by me!

I wish it had the option to play with a suggested optimized deck.

The ArkhamDB site is great for that.
If I wasn’t crazy about the base game, will any of these expansions add enough richness and interesting choices to make it worth the purchase?
Every expansion makes the game better. I didn't like the base game, but now I love the game with all the expansions I talk about in the video.
@@TheDungeonDive the base game felt a bit anemic and boring but I’ve heard nothing but how great the expansions are and wanted your insight.
I appreciate the TV like effects but the clarity of the audio is a disconnect have you tried downsampling the final audio?
I’ve had COVID the last two weeks so my voice sucks.
@@TheDungeonDive Take care of yourself and feel better soon. Thank you for the video!😊

Ah! I see. You want the audio to sound worse, like it's old. I'm not sure how that would fly for most viewers. :)
