  • Watch me play through a solo game of Elder Sign. This is a cooperative game that takes up to 8 players but I will be playing on my own. I will take on the role of an investigator trying to defeat monsters and close portals before the ancient ones are able to enter through them and bring destruction. This is a roll-and-lock dice game within the Cthulhu mythos from Fantasy Flight Games.

I have seen many comments online about Arkham Horror and Elder Signs being really good solo games so I wanted to try. The library did not have Arkham so I borrowed Elder Sign, I am just about to play it, thank you for the walk through it is very helpful.

This video helped a lot, thanks!
BUT could you help in one rule - if in a one-player-one-character-game I lose all sanity and stamina, do I just start with a new character? Doesn't the game last very long time that way as there are several characters to be used?

Hey there, thank you for the kind words and the view. The rulebook does state that when an investigator is devoured you select a new one but the chances of you running through all of the investigators in a solo game is very unlikely especially depending on the Elder one. Even so, losing a game of Elder Sign can sometimes be a very long experience but winning a game doesn't always take that long. Thanks for watching!!!

@@whenharrymetboardgames7 Thanks for the previous answer! 🙏🏼 Now I would have one more question... 😊
I had another solo game and felt again that the difficulty of the game is somehow too high. But could the reason be that I've used only one character when playing alone? I started to think that as a co-op game it might give some advantage to have for example two game characters even when playing solo...

So... would you have any comment on that question? 🙃

Hey there sorry about that. I am not too sure how much easier the game would be with multiple player but I would not play with more than 3 players maybe 4 because there is not enough interaction among the players to keep them immersed in between players turns!

@@whenharrymetboardgames7 OK, so maybe I try one more solo game with 2 characters and see if it gets easier. A bit of a surprise as I went to see discussion of this in BGG and noticed somebody complaining the game to be too easy... 😮

Did the first turn of the game have to draw the mythos card?

I am pretty sure the rulebook states that you start the game by drawing a mythos card. I have been wrong before though

Hey there, sorry to arrive so late to the party. Anyhow, the rules state that indeed, you draw a mythos card at the start of the game. However, you are to ignore the At Midnight effect on the top half of the card, but implement the lingering effect on the bottom half of the card, if applicable.
