How to decoupage a ceramic pot - or just about anything you like!

  • Often when I am designing, there are times when the container has to be as important as the vessel and with decoupage a simple pot or vase can take your display to a whole new level.
    This video shows how to turn a terracotta pot/ceramic vase/glass vase into a floral master piece that will enhance the beauty of your flowers! I call it magic - because to me that is what it is. You can take pretty much any surface, a printed paper serviette, glue, a paint brush and within an hour turn that surface into something visually beautiful.
    Things to gather:
    A container of your choice, but it must be a smooth surface (nothing textured, or embossed), like terracotta, ceramic, glass.
    Plaid ‘ROYAL COAT’ Decoupage Finish or ½ Pod-Modge or PVA glue mixed with the same quantity of water: Mod Podge Matte Finish: amzn.to/1JAgV0o or Gloss Finish: amzn.to/1LWq4WP
    Paint brush for application of glue.
    Pretty printed paper serviettes with images you like!

    I really enjoy doing it, have done it on many different items besides pottery... it's not as easy as it looks on utube, takes a little practice, I started with tin cans amd empty jars.

      Pamela, it's addictive and beyond fun. You are going to so L O V E it. The possibilities are endless and the best part - once you get tired of it, simply wash off to remove. A good hot soapy soak and you can peel it off and start again. Marvelous. Kind regards Astar

      My pleasure Gina, I'm so pleased I was placed in a hard corner not knowing where to find the right container for my peonies because this is so cost effective and such a fun project. Best part, when you don't like it, it comes off easily with a bit of soaking. Take care Astar

    I have to add my little comment and I am coming from a very beginner perspective, so please don’t attack me everyone if you find my comment incorrect.
    With a clay pot, you have to seal the inside entirely all around the drain hole the bottom inside the inside sides all the way up so that if you put anything with water or to have potting soil in the pot and you’re going to water whatever plant is in there please remember that with a terra-cotta pot that the moisture goes through the entirety of the clay. What does this mean? moisture is going to affect the outside design very possibly maybe not in all cases, but it could potentially. I did work on the clay pot. I have not sealed the inside, and the outer design was completely destroyed. Are used an acrylic paint to paint the inside and then I sealed it with a varnish.
    Now here’s another very important note! If you seal your terra-cotta or clay, pot or container on the inside, with some sort of varnish, varnishes are usually always flammable. So you’re not going to put your clay pot into the oven after you varnish it!
    Do not put any container into the oven if you have used a flammable, varnish, or paint! Read the label!
    If you need to seal your outside painted surface by warming it in an oven, do that first and when you’re all done, then once it has cooled down entirely then, and only then can you varnish/seal the inside with something to put a barrier between moisture/water

    ❤ can this be put outside in the rain? What’s best to weather proof this technique?

    • @AstarsPlace
      @AstarsPlace  Год назад +1

      Hi there, not really suitable for the great outdoors. However, if it is placed out of the harsh elements under cover - like a porch it will be fine. However, it's important to protect with several good coats of sealing vanish. Hope this helps. Kind regards Astar

    How you prepare the ceramic pot? Do you put gesso or white paint first?

    • @AstarsPlace
      @AstarsPlace  Год назад +1

      Hello, best to paint the pot first. I just use a white undercoat. Depending on coverage, one coat should do it. Hope this helps Astar

    Don’t forget, ladies and gentlemen, that if you take it extremely really really super super fine sandpaper to get rid of rough glue edges you can do that in between your layers of gluing, unless, of course, you like the roughness I don’t.

  • @cherri7206

    Can you put it out side? If water can wash it off is that still possible

    • @AstarsPlace
      @AstarsPlace  3 года назад +1

      Hello Cherri, I so want to say YES PUT IT OUTSIDE, but unless you apply a really good couple of layers of exterior vanish, it will deteriorate. I've got mine outside but under cover and it's well protected from the elements so my fingers are crossed. I found a beautiful print show-casing mixed spring flowers which took my fancy and will be an amazing display in 6 months time??? I hope 🙏
