  • Emerson, Lake, & Palmer perform "Rondo" and a few Bach improvisations at the very beginning of a legendary career. Filmed at the time when the band had only just recorded their ground breaking first Album ELP had to use all of their huge individual creative talents to create a full show.

    Keith Emerson - the greatest exponent of the keyboard in modern times. Not only was he capable of playing acoustic piano better than anyone of his generation, he also took the amazing Hammond organ to the furthest reaches of it's capabilities. Then, as if that wasn't enough, Keith siezed the MOOG Synthesizer and single-handed took it from an experimental instrument to the £100 keyboard that we take for granted today. Loved every minute of the seven times I saw ELP! Thank You Keith.

      Ahh...nooo, theres no such thing as 'the best pianist in the world' or "the best [insert musical instrument here] in the world"because to qualify you would have to be the best keyboard player in every possible genre and style of music ever written on that instrument, which clearly he isnt. He is without doubt one of the best three Prog Rock keyboard players ever, and one of the other two must be Rick Wakeman. Suggest you start at that point.

    those Hammond organs were really well made - that M-100 took a beating at every show and he could still finish the set without problems!

    • @schreineinAV
      @schreineinAV 8 лет назад +13

      It wasn't an m-100..... It was an L100..... The main difference was the on/off switch that Keith abused! The m100 had the same switch as the C3, B3 and A100..... An on/ off switch and motor ignition/'run' switch...... The L100 simply had an on/ off switch.... That when abused would effect the pitch of the organ when turned on and off! I own the same model of organ...... And also owned an M100......

    I’ve gigged rock n roll keyboard. When talking about other players, I tell people that with enough practice I could probably play most of what I can hear, except Emerson. I once saw him take on a murderously difficult Chopin etude I wouldn’t touch, but he of course took it a step further and played it while he and his concert grand piano were spinning vertically end over end at Charlotte Motor Speedway. A crowd well into six figures and I was probably the only person not intoxicated on the premises, so I know I wasn’t hallucinating. Now of course there are other spinning piano performances available on RUclips, though I’ve never seen a version with the Chopin Etude.

    I feel his whole life Keith's genius was lost on most people, even other musicians, and that maybe haunted him. But listen to some of his compositions on piano. Our minds haven't evolved enough to appreciate them. This is incredible too.

    Actually I think this was in Belgium, but who cares anyways? This is so awesome!! Someone posted the whole concert a while back and I listened to it everyday then copyright stuff came in and fucking ruined it as usual. So my advice ; download it while you still can because you're gonna miss it if it gets taken down.
