ELP - The Barbarian - Lyceum Theatre 1970 (High Quality)

- Emerson, Lake & Palmer's performance of the Barbarian, during the Lyceum Theatre concert in December 1970. The only other RUclips video of this performance is of extremely poor quality, so I thought I would upload a better one. The source material is a Japanese laserdisc, graciously digitized by its owner.
For reasons unbeknownst to me, video releases of this concert that include this piece use a kinescope recording, rather than the original videotape recording like the rest of the concert. In addition, the kinescope recording plays too slowly, making the audio out-of-tune. I've used a video editor to put the audio back in-tune for this upload. Развлечения
They were absolutely the perfect example for 3 most talented people at the right place, and at the right time. im just so glad they found each other
Only Carl Palmer left. he’s still playing prog rock with his own band. Rip Keith Emerson and Greg Lake You are sorely missed.
Amen!!
@@taylordw I didn't know that. I hope Heaven allows prop rock.
@@Someone-kg8qfhell will be the only place with good music, sorry champ
Absolutely volcanic drumming from Carl Palmer; what a virtuoso!
Spring 1971, Wabash College Gymnasium, Crawfordsville, Indiana - at the time, I only knew of Emerson, Lake & Palmer via their "Lucky Man" single and was expecting a folky trio strumming acoustic guitars and harmonizing a la Crosby, Stills & Nash. Imagine my surprise when they began their set by blowing off the roof of the gym with this song.
Suffice it to say you were NOT ready :)
IMO, we will never see or hear the likes of master musicians like Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, and Carl Palmer ever again ! The fact that they have never been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame is so incredibly
preposterous !!!!! RIP Keith "Fingers" Emerson, RIP Greg Lake, and
long live Carl Palmer ! ELP FOREVER !!!!!
Aunque esté solo CARL (Palmer) debieran incluir a “ELP” en el salón de la fama !!! Y como “frutilla del postre” y desagravio de sus compañeros, no asistir!!! 😡
I will NEVER tire of hearing this live version of The Barbarian ... Rest in Peace, Keith Emerson & Greg Lake >>> Keep bangin', Carl Palmer
Magnificent. This is the best version of the song. It sounds dirty, gnarly, heavy, and down right awesome.
Emerson Lake and Palmer first album so progressive,a masterpiece.
The Barbarian is one of my favorite all time ELP songs, and it was the very first album track off their very first album. This live version is insanely good!
I can't argue with you awesome
I bought the album for "Lucky Man", but I sure as hell wasn't ready for this! It blew me away and changed my musical taste forever!
I am speechless in appreciation for this masterful rendition. Thank You!
Thank you for this high quality version.
At that time Carl was 20 year old : great, great drummer and what he did in this entire live wow, wow, wow.from Treviso Italy Cattarin Luciano
This storming arrangement of Bartok's piece remains one of their greatest achievements IMO.
That last 30 sec or so on the barbarian; just listening to the audio years ago, I found Palmer's speed hard to believe. But watch him here. The best ...
This is Progressive Life not only Progressive Rock!🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

My favorite Band by far !!!
Thanks for this video !
Oooooooooh that bass tone!!!! Super cool.... Knife edge is my favorite clean tone but this bass distortion sounds amazing
Gregg Lake was incredible
RIP
Keith and Gregg
We miss you
All one has to do is watch this and you’ll quickly see how great and versatile Keith Emerson was on the keyboards
This was my first exposure to the music of Bela Bartok.
Alberto Ginastera would be in total awe of the sonic assault, rhythmic complexity, and harmonic intrigue. Diabolic!
This is an Bela Bartok´s compositions!
I can't think of any drummer in the 70s who can keep up with Keith Emerson other than Carl Palmer.
I think Peart could have matched his stamina at that time
This Is my favorite video on RUclips includind all the entire concert great great great goosebump thanks elp
Drumming is insane.
4:53 for all those who may want to listen to early blast beats... :^)
pre-heavy metal drumming. Carl Palmer is the powerhouse
So awesome. Yes had twice the people and couldn’t do half this good.
So epically cool.
Keith and Greg left a hole that it would never be fulfilled. R.I.P. 😞
Quei tre ragazzi di all'ora erano veramente fantastici
The Barbarian is Allegro Barbaro, composed by Bela Bartok, an hungarian classical composer dead in 1945.
Wonderful recording! Thank you so much for going through the process to align it!
And that was the OPENING Song....
That was deemed heavy metal at the time. I agree
Great quality video. Wicked performance by ELP. Thank you for this!
absolutely thankful for this!!!!!! Thank you!!!! and just so tight!!!
Never get enough !Thank you for sharing !
i am not worthy to comment...just one word MINDBLOWING
Damn, I workout back in the day !!
And still one for anybody !!!! : D

Unleash Carl Palmer at the end.
Rockin' the Bartok! Con brio!
Amazing Amazing track of the magic trio of pop progressive music
Favolooooooooooooooso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, greetings from Treviso Italy
Something tells me that Bartok might have liked this version...
Stratosfericoooooooooooooooo
Thanks for doing this! Would be great to see whole Pictures concert without the silly effects. Does it exist, perhaps on the Japanese laser disc?
I asked that once on Reddit. Basically the possibility that a master videotape without the visual effects exists is slim, at best. It's possible that the effects were injected into the video feed live, making it onto the master tape. I doubt we'll ever know either way, unfortunately.
@@themaritimegirl It may just, as tantalisingly here's a version of Rondo with and without the effects ruclips.net/video/Jp603yvH-eA/видео.html
It is on the Japanese LD , I have a copy transferred to DVD .
My Heroes Forever and everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I can't understand why Phil Collins said he didn't like Palmer's drumming.
Fenomenaleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very good..............................................................
Montruos!!
not included on the special edition dvd, and i've never known why?
their first album was released in November 1970
Got to see them live in Toledo Ohio some years back. Seats werent the best but i didnt care. They were a few of my first music experiences in my youth and kinda spoiled me towards others. I guess i should have started with Primus because the suck?
Лутшие.
Assoluti✌

finest brit rock ever
Pezzo booooooooooomba,grandissimi Elp
Great music - but that TOTP outfit that Keith wore in 70/71 was amusing to say the least and the next one he wore in 72ish was just as rediculous, but a reflection of the times. When I saw them in 74 Keith was in pretty normal attire and the music was still excellent. Wakeman also had a funny dress sense at that time. Pink Floyd however dressed in normal T shirts etc at that time which wouldn't look out of place today.
Blastbeat
Elp at their best
Emerson playing the ol' Steinway Grand, I wonder what one of those bad boys costs today?
There's a Steinway store near me and I have seen some higher-end models being sold for the price of a small house.....
Immagini vintage stupendeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
First stoner metal song
The Nice were the prototype…….
Guardo questo fenomenale video e dopo penso che ne so a jax,Fedez,Amoruso ,Emma Morrone, ghali ecc...oddio,mi sento male vi viene da vomitare
Sorry make me Crazy not male
Hmm...let's see...would i rather want to hear a selfish bragging young man with a sideways baseball cap and a wireless mic spewing foul and filthy words in monotone accompanied by a poorly programmed and poor sounding drum machine, or listen to the greatest musician ever to grace rock stages with the same energy and showmanship as Jimi Hendrix? Hmm...let's see...
