Interesting note about the singer!
We very recently learned that the main singer for this song is none other than the composer for all the game's music.
Edit: Yes it's Yu-Peng Chen. No, it's not Scaramouche's VA. That was a rumor and the VA himself said he wasn't the singer. The live performance has a different singer, his voice is clearly much deeper than the in-game version.
That explains the vocals being unrefined but clear 👀

Scaramouche whole life is like the bohemian rhapsody.
He was created (born) to be the vessel of a god but was deemed too gentle and left alone.
Roaming the land aimlessly, he was picked up by a human who treated him like a family. But soon after, tragedy struck and he was once again left alone.
Another encounter and goodbye, he who was "created" couldn't fathom the concept of death and sees it as betrayal as he left alone for many times.
So many pain that made him wish he'd never been born at all.
Then another twist in his life that turn him into the villain we all knew, Scaramouche.
I see this misconception a lot, he was never meant to be a vessel for a god.
He was primarily meant as a vessel for storing and safekeeping the gnosis, and secondarily as a "proof of concept" for the final product.
His role was never meant to be neither a god himself nor the receptacle for one, he was never meant to be part of the divine, thus his dream about becoming a god was always flawed (this is both on the Husk of Opulent Dreams lore & on the overall story, being deceived into thinking he wanted/needed something he never truly needed)
@@brurhh It's not that weird to think that being intended to be a receptacle for a gnosis means one is made to be a receptacle for divinen power since that's...kinda what a gnosis symbolizes, at the very least.
@@brurhh He was part of the project where the end result is a divine vessel, he was a reject with no purpose that the good took pity on.
Which raises question if she was aware that result of her work would be a sentient being, in which case this was all really inconsiderate. Albeit Ei was in the state of turmoil and desperation at the time.

Well, the whole reason Ei abandoned him was because he was sentient and independent in thought from her hence why she just decided to just create a clone of herself in the end instead of enforcing her will on him. She saw his heart was fragile but this is neither a bad statement nor a bad statement(though obviously Scara takes it to be bad).
I would say she had some logic in not forcing him to rule. A soft heart has no place in power and heavy responsibility. But a soft heart isnt really fit to hold divine power either. So she left him in a underground mansion basically with a amulet and let fate take place.

The second Japanese trap section hits so hard. Not only is it a perfect evolution and climax to the song, its the climax of the battle (if timed right/wrong) and the climax for this character's story. On top of all that, that melody is used as the basis for the theme of the Wanderer, this character's playable version. I always say, Yu Peng Chen is a musical genius.

It also pretty cool that once the flute finishes, the first line is in Japanese which translates to why did you throw me away unnamed? This being the only Japanese line in the song and it's done both twice after the inazuma melody.
Speaking of climaxes this song was the reason of a climax of mine 💀🗿
So, basically Scaramouche's boss theme features a few motifs from other themes, including Signora's and Raiden's (Although you haven't heard the latter yet)
Resemblance to Signora's is tied to them both belonging to an organization named Fatui. I believe Tartaglia's boss battle theme also includes this Fatui leitmotif.
And the part that surprised you was a reference to Raiden and Inazuma in general (a region inspired by Japan, it also influenced the music of course). Scaramouche is Raiden's son, hence her theme is included in his

The Inazuman part isn't Raiden's theme (Raiden's theme is the main Inazuma theme), it's the Tatarasuna theme "A Hollowed Skull" - a subregion of Inazuma, for the uninitiated lol - the home of young Scaramouche. It's him reminiscing about his past.

You've actually heard this before, in Signora's boss theme. It's the signature leitmotif of the group they belong in called the Fatui Harbingers.

Fun fact: all the harbingers share a particular riff in all their themes, that I like to call “the harbinger riff”. It happens from 5:28-5:41 in this one. The way each of the harbingers interpret that riff is extremely cool and interesting. You should react to the first one that was released in the game for Tartaglia as well.

iirc, this is Scaramouches riff, not the Fatuis - the fatui would be the opposite, going up instead of down (could be the opposite , I might be wrong)

The singer, Yu-Peng Chen, is also the composer. He is however a trained singer as well. The reason it sounds distorted here and there, is actually more symbolic. The moment it becomes clear is the moment the lyrics go back to the past of the character.
the singer is actually the Chinese VA for Scaramouche actually! Which makes it incredibly more personal to the character, almost as if he's singing it to us in the game as we fight for him. Yu-Peng only sang it in the live version that was released for a festival! :)

Whats also interesting is this song is sung in Japanese and Latin to sympolize Scaramouche's Origins
Also just in case you didn't catch it the lyrics are in Latin with smaller part in Japanese to symbolise where he game from.
This is my favorite boss theme, my favorite character, and the story~ Everything is so good~
What make it so much deeper is that the songs lyrics have both Latin and Japanese - and each bare a side of the character from their time as scaramouche (Latin) and their innocent side before that (Japanese) - betrayal from his perspective followed him he tried to ascend to godhood to leave it behind - he also tried to end himself to leave it behind not realizing that he couldn't erase all of himself. And when those two side were reintegrated with each other - there is the duality of thought that has to happen. And his aesthetic design also mirrors this duality with him having the looks of a shugensha monk.
Such a good character, I love my wanderer
Scaramouche is not a human but a puppet created by a god. Scaramouche, also known as Kunikuzushi "Country Destroyer") or by his Fatui codename "Balladeer." Scaramouche was created as a concept to test Raiden Ei's (The god of thunder and eternity) plans for an indestructible Gnosis-bearing puppet. (With his creation accomplished, Ei decided to leave him in a slumbering state, free from her control, as he had cried upon his creation. After awakening, Scaramouche came to believe that she had deemed him a failure and abandoned him. Following two other "betrayals," he started to hate both gods and humanity, taking on the name "Kunikuzushi" while wandering Inazuma and joining the Fatui as The Sixth Fatui Harbinger, The Balladeer. This fight takes place after he cut contact with the Fatui and tried to become a god using Ei's Gnosis and the help of the Akademiya.
Scara is inside that massive robot connected with tubes. The heart beat you hear is likely meant to represent him becoming fully one with the robot.
A Gnosis "Heart of God" is an item used by The Seven to directly tap into energy from Celestia, and is proof of their status as an elemental Archon.
scaramouche is my favorite boss theme and boss fight
I just want to say, this game is not just a gacha game. Yeah it has a gacha system to get the characters but compared to many other gacha games, this game just hits another level. The world, the lore, the characters and the music are just mindblowing.
But the rewards are underwhelming
It has lyrics aswell, which shows you again what a masterpiece that is.

7:00 Where did this come from? Well, it might seem just a tad random, but this is actually an important leitmotif. This song includes other leitmotifs too, like the Fatui theme and Scaramouche’s theme, but the specific part that happens at the timestamp is a theme from Inazuma. I believe it’s called the Taratasuna leitmotif? It is very referential to Scaramouche’s backstory. It doesn’t earn any subtlety points, but it has tons of cool factor which I fucking love (btw if you pay attention to both La Signora’s fight theme and Scaramouche’s fight theme, you can hear the Fatui leitmotif in both. Same with Tartaglia’s fight theme).
This is not a Taratasuna leitmotif, it is a theme of Sumeru played on Japanese instruments.
@@iosis9324 yes it is, it is tatarasuna, the notes going up in that sequence are the same as the theme played at tatarasuna just sped up faster and on a flute type instrument instead of on a piano

Listen to "Forest of Jnana and Vidya" 0:37 this is literally the same melody, and if you still don't believe me turn on the Tatarasuna theme at 2x speed, at least once, and you will notice that these are not even close to similar themes.

Listen to the Inazuma moment in the Scaramouche theme, and at the same time turn on “Forest of Jnana and Vidya" 0:37 and you will understand that this is the Leitmotif of the Sumeru.
After listening to "A Hollowed Skull", I realized that for some reason there is a leitmotif of Tatarasuna in "Forest of Jnana and Vidya".
So from the part you are right, there really is no leitmotif of Sumeru, this is the leitmotif of Tatarasuna in the theme of Sumeru.

Wonderful reaction! This Boss battle theme is insane. That Inazuman section has no right sounding that amazing! to find out that the singer is non other than the game’s composer, wow. My respect for him went through the roof.
I have a couple of suggestions, you should totally react to the orchestra performances of the soundtrack. Azhdaha and Raiden's themes are great as well. The open world battle themes are amazing too (Duel in the Mist, Swirls of the Stream, Gilded Runner, and Die Mittsommernacht-Fantasie are my favorites)!

Funfact if you noticed that they slight similarity of few part pf this track and La Signiora's and Rauden Shogun's track, thats because he conically is the older brother of the raiden shogun boss and a forner collegue of La Signiora as in he belonged to the same organisation 😅😃😃

No, that was confirmed a rumor a long time ago. The VA even said as much. The main vocal is actually the composer and is credited as such on the official release from hoyo.

Now we are in Fontaine, I am kinda worried that Yu-Peng Chen won't be composing boss soundtrack for major Boss because most soundtrack we had so far since 3.4 is not from Yu-Peng Chen, there are also no credit for him on the main soundtrack of Fontaine.
