    I too hang up my own prints at home. It feels so good to have family and friends coming over and when they ask you start off with “yes, I took that photo. Let me tell you more about it”. Also cant wait to see what you got coming next!

    Love the video. I used to be a 35mm/85mm guy. But here lately I've been liking the 50mm length better.
    In a perfect world, I love the images of the 85. But when I take photos of my kids, the closer I am to them, the more they actually pay attention to me vs the piece of trash on the ground or a leaf or anything else.
    So 50mm seems to get me more keepers.

      50 feels great lately - I'm hoping Canon bring back the 50 1.4!

    I recently bought the 50 and I was thinking one of this days:
    "I wonder if the 35 would have been a better decision... Maybe I should look for a comparison on RUclips"
    And out of nowhere boom I got a notification with this video lol... Great video!!

    35mm guy over here. Favorite focal length. So versatile. Wide enough. Great at f1.4. But the no distortion of the 50mm is something great to have if you like that look. Personally I shoot with both 35mm and 85mm for portraits. I think thats the best duo for that matter. You’ve use that combination before so you know what Im talking about 👊🏽😎

      You should try sigma 105mm 1.4,beast for portraits

    • @joansmith7649
      @joansmith7649 Год назад

      @GamerDaPeter IMO the 105 and 135 are lenses for achieving the perspective one has when viewing strangers on the subway 7' to 10' away. If that's the look you are going for, shoot away with 105 and 135.

    50 is great if you just want one lens (if you like to do portraits a fair amount), but the 35 is a better "moment catcher"/"scene setter" and the 85 is more flattering and attractive. So the 50mm is either the perfect middle ground or disliked precisely because it is an in between depending on your perspective. The 50 is the most "honest" FL IMO. That said I find myself moving away from 50 for practical reasons. Cant ever settle on my fave I use both 50 and 35 constantly! great video!

    Poses at 4:08, 4:09, and 4:52 has Swarali with the nice smiles(and sassy). Color of building as background blends in with model. I would use the 50mm for less visual distortion for portraits. Nice work again Mitch.

    70 -200 is the best for portraits. I have used 50 mm and 85 mm both. 70 -200 provides me four prime lenses technically (70, 85,100 and 135mm) and with the zoom range it's great for capturing candid moments in weddings.

    Everyone keeps saying 35 is versatile and a good focal length. To me it looks neither here nor there and the pictures just don’t make you feel anything

    • @piotrgraniszewski8544
      @piotrgraniszewski8544 Год назад

      It really is subjective. My attitude towards different perspectives and compositions changes all the time. Sometimes I am drawn towards the shorter focal lengths (3D pop), other times I prefer long focal lengths (painterly layering).
      I love the 50mm because it is very easy to use and it helps you focus on what you want to frame.
      If I want more context, I just use 28mm. 28mm is borderline - it can look normal and natural if you frame it with care, but it can also be used to distort the perspective and draw you in. And the noise in the background is still manageable, because it is not a terribly wide focal length. 35mm can also be used in this way, except the perspective distortion tends to feel more harmonic and not as chaotic. I love using 30-40mm on my zoom lens if I need a tad bit more focus and order in the frame. But 50mm is my choice for candids and 28mm (plus 70mm) is my choice for travel photography.

    • @joansmith7649
      @joansmith7649 Год назад

      35mm is a lover's lens. In other words, when your significant other is nearby or in your arms, that's what he/she actually looks like. So 35mm is an intimate lens. If you are shooting sexy nudes or boudoir and you want images representing what your model's lover sees in bed, the 35mm will give you that. On the other hand, if the couple sleeps in separate bedrooms and only see each other across the table or across the living room, then the 85mm will naturally provide that view, but only because when an 85mm lens is used it is used at distances beyond 5' away from the subject.
      Lenses do not have ANY effect on perspective and they do not "distort" perspective. The notion that wide-angle lenses distort facial features is completely false. Instead they only record the perspective as viewed in real life at that particular subject-lens distance. People feel compelled to fill the frame of the camera viewfinder with their subject, hence the reason why so many images shot with a 35mm lens are often shot at distances of only 3' to 4' and produce a perspective that feels distorted and uncomfortably intimate.
      Since most people only see other people at distances beyond 5', the view at 5' or beyond is the perspective that appears normal and comfortable to most peiople, and hence the reason why the 85mm is so beloved as a portrait lens since it is characteristically shot from 5' to 8' from the subject.

    I shoot 35mm 50% for portraits. Personally, your location is why you preferred the 50mm IMO. I have used a 50mm very little and usually do not like this focal length as it offers no depth, no "pop" ... its meh

    • @Jgheiler

    Rocking the fuji 23mmf2 and the 50mmf2 so its about 35mm and 75mm for me but love that combo. Still can't decide to buy a 50mm1.4 or a 50-140 f2.8 lol

    • @joansmith7649
      @joansmith7649 Год назад

      If you have a 35mm lens, forget the 50mm. Simply stand back from the subject a foot or so. Crop in on the computer and you will have the 50mm perspective for free. If you want more more bokeh, bokeh closer to the 50mm, in 2 minutes you can achieve that in Photoshop.
      The 35mm/75mm combo you are using is a killer combo for spectacular portraits, but it is more challenging to use than the 50mm/85mm combo. However, in my opinion a talented portrait photographer using the 35/75 will outshoot a talented photographer using the 50/85 combo every day of the week.

    Hey Mitch. Great video. I am torn between which one to buy as my first lens for the r6. One problem that I do have is that my raw uncompressed images look like a noisy hell in the developers module in Lightroom Classic…like…the Fuji x-t4 produced better SOOC images with less noise. I found that the camera settings don’t apply in Lightroom (noise reduction) …how do you handle editing then? I would love a tutorial on that subject because it drives me crazy 😝. IN DPP at 12.800 iso they look way better than in lightroom.

    Not a fan distortion so I would not either of these lenses for portrait. These 2 focal length have more of a camera phone look to them. Longer focal lips gives you more compression and 3d effect. But all that vision comes with experience. Good stuff. 📸✌️

    • @joansmith7649
      @joansmith7649 Год назад

      Longer focal length lenses do not alter perspective and do not compress or extend the subject. Instead, this only comes from the given subject-lens distance.
