that's going to be the big debate, if they are changing their standards across the board

Why not? A 9.8 was never the highest grade in a 10 point scale. This was inevitable.

In general, I learned when a business makes alot of "change decisions" in such a short term is very bad. not because of the "change itself" but because of the either "growth" or "non-growth"... you want slow business growth... not fluctuations which make for a weak business. Marketing 101 says to get more out of the current customer, but at the same time they are altering their type of business. I feel CGC is in a bad place. May not be evident but the choices say that.

It's wild to me how RUclipsrs will question the quality of CGC's grading from their 9.9 video (combined with past videos criticizing CGC), but then continue to spend money on CGC slabs. You all are so obsessed with asking "how much will this CGC 9.8 be worth in the future" when you should be asking "is that even a trustworthy CGC score"?
The bigger the dollar signs the less integrity matters.

I once saw a spawn # 1 and somehow it was graded a 9.9 ... how is that even possible. I feel like they should have just stayed with 9.8 as the best for a comic.

I was buying spider-man 9.9s before the boom when they were cheap. I kinda lucked out. I even got an old label 10! IMO I believe 9.8s are going to keep the majority of their value due to the fact that 9.9s will still be extremely rare even if a few pop up. Think of the CGC 9.9s as carrying a premium. Like a black label BGS 10 or a Mike Baker gold diamond MBA dual cert PSA 10. Think of the Micheal Jordan 1986 rc. It’s still worth $180,000 the price didn’t crash. But you will pay double for that premium grade.

Great channel I am really enjoying your content so far. 9.9s and 10's are like Unicorn's or atleast were. Ever since CBCS came out with there new 9.9 and 10 label all the sudden CGC's talking 9.9's seems kind of fishy to me and just a money grab at this point.

Great news. I only buy slabs when they are the same price or cheaper than the raw options - but now there should be some cheaper high-grade slabs out there once the 9.9 or 10 of a certain book is discovered. But I really don't get the brag at all - "I've got a comic that is in such great shape that no one ever read it and I don't intend to read it ever either".

I have a GSX1 in a 9.0. I'm dumping it and, almost, every other CGC slab I have.
I feel like the market is about to be turned on its head.

Just another way to sheer the sheep. In 10 years they’ll start a CGC 10 pre screen. The top of the grading pyramid 9.2 and above is such a scam.

9.8 used to be the industry accepted "high grade" and the current scandals have cause a skepticism with possible frauds .suddenly 9.9 and 10s are on the market to distract from the obvious if grades are based on human eye and is that person giving an impartial opinion or influenced by market speculation?

In the comic world, a 9.9 still isn’t a “perfect” 10 even though I feel people think it should be right? Interesting how many hate getting a step closer to 10 when that’s all we want on the sports card side. I think this would be exciting for collectors at having a shot at a 9.9 to put your item into even more rarity.

NOBODY gets a 10 outside of a few modern books, the 10 grade doesn't really apply to comics the same way it does to trading cards

It's killing me that as a community, we're just not getting it. Are we suckers for punishment? Or just plain suckers?
We're appalled at CGC for their questionable practices, transparent cash-grabs, and constant scandals. We're crying bloody murder over the 9.9 pre-screen option, which isn't even real yet. Yet many are salivating at the prospect of sending in their books in order to capitalize on those same questionable, cash-grabby practices. I get it. Who wouldn't want their book suddenly be worth 5x or even 10x more overnight? But the more we cave in to these scummy practices, the more we erode the credibility and future health of this hobby. It feels like a lot of people are lining up to jump on the cash-grab train while it's hot, then dip out and let the hobby sort itself out in the aftermath. Seems short-sighted and selfish to me, but hey. What do I know?
