It’s fascinating how your colour choices, artistry, wisdom and this week’s technique seem to reflect your current state of being. Feeling blue, you slowly and so carefully stitched those surface layers together ‘just enough’. Your sharp scissors step by step snipped the blue and brown away to - oh so slowly - reveal the layer of (almost) flesh underneath, taking us with you to a new place of raw vulnerability. Just as a snake sheds its old skin. It is YOUR true colours I have seen today: someone whose communication and skills reflect profound authenticity, whatever is going on. Thank you. You have a rare and precious gift and we are lucky to have you here.

I worked at an assisted living home about 20 years ago and there was a little lady that resided there that had lived in Panama many years ago. I absolutely loved going to her room because all along her walls she had many mola that she had gotten framed. She told me all about them when I expressed interest in them. She told me the Kuna women would sell them for 25 cents each. The ones she had were quite large, probably around 15 x 22 inches more or less. She gave me one of a dragon that she had made into a pillow. It is one of my most favorite treasures. They are absolutely fascinating and beautiful.

Oh Kathryn i am so sorry to hear what you are going through. You know how much you are loved by us all here and if there is any help that I can give please let me know. You have helped me in so many ways. Listening to you talk today and the project you have chosen is so linked to your life at the moment, but remember you did say you can spiral up as well as down and that is what you will be doing. I was married for 32 years with 2 children before it ended. I bought myself a tiny dwelling and called it the Burrow. I can honestly say that even though money is very tight the independence and inner strength that I feel is wonderful. my home has become both my sanctuary and studio and I love it. Here I live with two rescued dogs and I am content. I sincerely wish the same for you. I had a knee replacement 2 days ago and you are going to get me through this as I have been unable to catch up with all of your videos but now is the time. I live in England in the Midlands and went to the festival of quilts on the Friday too and some bought some snippy snippy Fiskars and applique pins. I sat with some ladies I didnt know for coffee, and guess who we talked about and had a common admiration for, yes you guessed it was You. So please remember you have built a wonderful community here and we all love you dearly xx

Oh wow! We are of a very similar age. I live in the most northern part of New Zealand. I didn’t think this was overly relevant but when I heard you say what you said in the video today, I thought you might like to know how far you had reached. I go to a fibre group meeting each month and it is all about knitting, crochet and spinning. The person who organises it arrived and proceeded to tell everyone about her new obsession….slow stitching… mindfulness, process etc. But then she said she had a rice bag, loved running stitch and if you weren’t sure, you could audition the cloth, I kinda knew she was a K3 N cloth-taler! I did ask at the end and she confirmed. Next month we are all doing slow stitching !! 🤣🤣

When I was separated and divorced, one of the constants was that my boys had the same bus driver at each of our three homes in those early years -- a valuable support for them that helped me feel better for their transitions. 18 months in from my own "new beginning", and the loss of my dear old cat, and 4 years in my little house ( which is pretty much all studio space lol) l have 2 new cats...sister and brother...and a few health issues, but freedom to create, read, cook and watch these and other videos at will. Change has been a constant in my life, but finding it more difficult with age..drat ! Looking forward to further watching with you in your new abode. I have been doing mola for some years..machine stitching though..and sometimes use a kind of "duckbill" blade scissors to do the cutting. All best wishes from Ballarat in Victoria, Australia 🙏💕🐈⬛🐈⬛

I just returned from a festival of documentary films, and want to recommend the two that I saw: one is from Bhutan (Agent of Happiness) and the other -- nearly two hours long, but worth watching each moment: The Story of Ink. This is a Canadian film about ink-maker & artist Jason Logan and the other artists he's in touch with. It's likely to fascinate anyone here who has been trying natural dyes. I'll be very interested to hear responses from anyone who catches either of these. 😊

If I may speak in defense of turmeric, the lady who taught me to dye with it was quite clear that the color was fugitive, but in India and Southeast Asia where it grows profusely they make an occasion of renewing their fabrics each year. Imagine the depth and patina that develops over the years as you come together to dip your clothing and household linens in a communal dye pot. If you see it as a layering up of memory and experience over time, I think turmeric dyeing is a lovely tradition.
@@newmoonjlp I made a series of 9 pieces of work for my Masters final show last year. I used turmeric to dye some fine bamboo/silk wadding and feathers which I’d made into a miniature cocktail dress which hung like a bird in a cage. The whole series was called Fugitive Places. I have no idea if the glorious yellowness will fade, but it will be apposite if it does as the piece was a reference to changing stages in our female lives.

Kathryn, yesterday would have been my 20th wedding anniversary. My children's dad and I separated 3 years ago and it's a very hard transition. I will say that happiness comes back in the most surprising ways. You are loved and supported from friends all around the world! Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself lots of time to cry, reflect, rage, rest, and create.
Hello Stephanie, yes it's very strange to suddenly be alone after 20 years, to have to be completely self reliant and make decisions. At the moment I am stuck on what vacuum cleaner to buy which is ridiculous. 🙄 I am blessed with good friends and this wonderful community and I know that it will be better in time and maybe even turn out for the best. Oh Kathryn, Its hard to end one chapter of your life and start a new. I have done this myself. Focus on the new. Try to keep the positive out in front. Try by all means to keep your spirits up. You have a lot to offer. Think well of yourself just like we thousands do! I'm glad I came across your channel. I have learned alot about stitching and about different parts of the world I never really thought about before.
I think you'll feel better when Fred Fred and Stella are back with you.
