This song gave me chills while taking the train to the labs. This combined with the scenery and the voice, perfect setting for what was to come throughout the game itself.
I of course first played a pirate copy without CD music. Later I found how this ambient sound adds a sense of danger to what was a rather casual train ride. The lady's voice on the announcement system seemed to come from another dimension, from one's memory or something. Scary.
Man, I remember the first time I played HL, standing in that small tram and observing the huge environments of Black Mesa as I ventured deeper into the facility. This was the perfect theme for that, so ambient, so solemn....
As I sit outside in the vally, the dark thick blue skies form as the cool wind breeze flows through, rocking the trees. I await for the rain to come. the calm before the storm..
I feel like this is the music that plays when you break out of an abandoned prison, like those games where once your out of that dark gloomy level it feels so good
Gordon Freeman, in the flesh. Or rather, in the hazard suit. I've taken the liberty of removing your weapons for you. After all, most of them were government property...
this reminds me of the OLD house...my father came from the navy with this game [the disc version] and showed it to me.i was about 3 years old i started playing it and i loved it.such a classic!! i play it on steam now. for some reason when I play the steam version,It doesnt make me feel at my old house.i feel like the disk version is differnt from steam version and no it was not source i have both hl1 and hl source from steam but still feels different from disk vesion i don know :(
That's interesting, I bought all the games on Steam for Christmas 2017 and I instantly fell in love with them ;). Also, I assume that the Steam version has different weapon models and sound effects? Since I've seen footage of HL's gameplay on release way back in the 90s, and the weapon models are different, the HECU grunt models are even slightly different as are the security guard models.
this reminds me... the flashbacks i get from black mesa... the music fits after the combine invade earth when you fight the nihilanth... remember g-mans phrase... "the border world.. Xen is now under our controle for the time being... thanks to you... quite a nasty peice of work you done there i am impresed...." Thats the combine so it gives u clues and the nihilanth says "the truth you will never know the truth" and "slaves we are there slaves" thats clues of whats happeging in half life 1
Is there anyway of putting the original Half-Life music into Black Mesa? Don't get me wrong, I love the new soundtrack, but I'd like to play it with the original soundtrack.

this is exactly what i wanted a huge underground government facility to sound like ambience-wise :P

BEST INTRO SONG EVER!!
This game brings back so many Nostalgic Memories of 1998.
I remember every chapter and level from "Half-life " ,this is the best game .
For reference, this song is called Vague Voices on the soundtrack. It is track #2.
Only today I realized this is used in HL2 as well when you get to Eli's lab
I remember not play ing half life for a while but when I came back and heard this music again, I started ascending
OMG this is my favorite song oh my good this is the one of the bests songs in Half Life1
I remember playing this on my friends ps2 and this, this set the tone of the whole game.
This piece alone is creepier than the entirety of RE4
Chills. Nerd chills.

Something I love about half life. Being shut in a large base cut off from all other life

VALVE (the game company that made half life) changed how half life looks and works in the steam version Rather then the WON version (the disk version)
