Solo sailing 700 NM from Bonaire to San Blas - Ep. 180

  • The sail to San Blas is a bit scary. In this part of the sea you typically have big winds. I had 25-30 knots of wind. Luckely not more. One night I sat out side all night to keep watch because of that.
The waves came from the back and from the side at the same time. I could hear the waves braking behind me, but couldn't see them. The boat was behaving as it it where sailing upwind. But we where going downwind. Doing 8-10 knots of speed at one point.

Heb hier echt van genoten. Jij die zo relaxed zit te zeilen in de hoge golven. Het geluid van de zee. Ik voelde me mee op je boot, zo ergens naast dat vogeltje dan 😀 👌👍

I enjoyed the views looking aft seeing the big rollers sweep past and the Windpilot doing its job, quite mesmerizing. Your boat looks to be handling those strong conditions very well.

WOW! Amazing you are doing this all by yourself. Good luck and safe trip! We are going on our trip tomorrow, bringing our boat from Pula to France and hopefully this autumn to the Caribbean Sea.

Another great video, I really enjoy watching your adventures and think you're doing a great job sailing through the Caribbean alone! I know the Caribbean well, I've sailed there a lot, my old home port was Luperon on the Hispaniola Dominican, the skipper and crew of the Cerberus wish you all the best and always a hand's breadth.👍

    Nice leg.
The red lights you saw at Aruba were from the airfield.
The string of lights you saw in the sky are the Starlink internet satelites.
You can pull down by hand a third reefed mainsail downwind just ok.
You have to learn these skills.
But hook yourself on when going forward. (you did not)
You knew this would be a rough downwind sleighride so why not
use your smaller jib. The large decksweeper genua that blinds also
your forward view is for on the Ijselmeer.
Please do not make a habit of sleeping through the whole night when
sailing paralel to a coast. Also denser ship traffic there.
Several boats were lost there. I knew 2 of them.

Thanks for your comment and tips. My sleeping pattern is 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes depending on the situation.

First of all, my greetings to you.
Without altering the route chosen by you and the destinations, I am pleased to recommend an Archipelago of Panama that many recreational sailors have given up for the sole reason that when they want to return to the east of Panama, the wind is against them.
My suggestion is that you don't miss the Bocas del Toro Archipelago very close to the border with Costa Rica. see you soon good luck.

    • @sailingloveworkx
      @sailingloveworkx  6 месяцев назад +1

Dat is een leuke vraag. Ik heb een epirb, een sart, iridiumgo exec, garmin gpsmap, AIS-B. Gribfiles haal ik binnen op de Iridiumgo van Predictwind.

Train of satellites are most likely Starlink - the come in cluster.
