Throughout his career, American singer-songwriter and producer Lobo managed to release hit after hit, while staying relatively out of the spotlight. After releasing “Me and You and a Dog Named Boo”, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971, Lobo released 16 studio albums, charted another 7 Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 songs including 3 in the Top Ten, and another 13 Top 25 hits on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, including 9 in the Top Ten and 4 No. 1’s. His smash hit “I’d Love You to Want Me” went No. 1 in almost every country. After touring globally for many years, Lobo now enjoys living a relatively quiet life with his wife, Susie.

Hello Kent! I am a 59 years old Brazilian. Your romantic songs were very successful here in Brazil, especially in the 70's and 80's. Much of the English I know until today I learned by turning the needle over the vinyl of "Lobo" as many times as necessary until I understood the lyrics and wrote it down on paper.

Kent, B.J. Poe here. You are so loved by fans because so many of your songs people can relate to not to mention the great voice you deliver them with. When I was in elementary school new neighbors moved next door to us. They had a beautiful daughter and it was love (puppy) at first sight for me. I was 5th grade and she was 4th grade when we came to be. When I finished 6th grade and was going to junior high school she broke up with me. She said was afraid I would get there and find someone else. I was devastated at that young age. After she entered jr. high school we became an item again for less than a year. But then she broke up with me again. Then sometime in late 9th grade we got back together and found the Simple Man album and was an immediate fan. I shared your music with her and she liked it. She broke up with me again. Later on before my 11th grade year we were upstairs at school and I saw her and was asking her if she wanted to go with me to see something. As soon as I got the words "do you with to go with me..out of my mouth." she said yes. She had got Calumet before I did shared it with me and explain that there was a particular song I really needed to hear. "IT SURE TOOK A LONG, LONG TIME" She said that song said everything she felt. She explain she always felt she was getting to serious. But she said I was always was the one. This has always been our song. My question after this long set up is, did you really go though the words in your song with someone? This song I've always said it was like you were watching our young lives as you were writing. Always said if I ever got to see you again I would ask this.

Hello Kent. I’m a 47 year old history/psychology teacher on Long Island. I’ve been playing your music at least once a day for countless years. My wife and 2 kids love it as well. In the area of psychology, I always felt your lyrics, or those who you covered, approached life with a unique perspective and delved deeper into how we all think and feel. I’d love to know the origin of every song, but I’d like to ask about the following: Gypsy and the Midnight Ghost, California Kid and Reemo, and Little Joe. You also covered a song on your self titled album called Lay Me Down which is a huge favorite of mine. I know the songwriters originally recorded it, but would love to know how it got to you. Your music is a gift. Your talent is appreciated here daily. Keep the videos coming. All the best.

Hi Kent, I have been a fan of yours for more than 50 years! Can't tell you how much your songs meant to me over these years. I love the melodies, lyrics, rhythms and varying atmospheres. You sure have a way to touch the heart. Also you have a huge range of tempos in your songs compared to other singers & composers. Amazing talent!! Thanks too for making a number of your Taiwan released songs available on Spotify and other apps. Many of these I have only discovered this year. I believe that your songs Sometimes, Over and It just feels right are some of your best!! Wishing you well!!

I have been listening to this great artist since 1981 when I bought my first cassette that had Stoney among other wonderful songs. I have loved Lobo ever since. In search of similar songs I found Eddie Rabbitt, John Denver, Don Williams, Al Stewart, Dan Fogelberg, and Gordon Lightfoot but Lobo stayed perched high above. He proved himself again in 2008 with a track called "You," which, in my humble opinion, is his most beautiful song. Stoney, Me and You and a Dog Named Boo, I'd Love You to Want Me, and One and the Same Thing inspired me to learn to play guitar and sing along. Lobo influenced my life in more than one way and I remain forever grateful for that.

    • @Drifter2100

I am in no way speaking for Kent, but he gave an interview in the '70s where he explained the situation in the song and the meaning of that line in particular.
What he said in that interview was that the song was about a student in school (sitting in his chair) falling in love with his teacher on first sight ("standing there" in front of the class), and, at least in his mind, she feels the same way about him. The "title" is her certificate to teach professionally, which obligates her to never violate the rule that a teacher can never have a romantic relationship with their student.
If I'm wrong, Kent, I apologize, and please correct me! But I remember that interview very well. In any case, I've had the opportunity in the past to tell you how much you and your music have meant to me, and that goes on forever! Thank you.

Hi Kent, I grew up enjoying your music and love your lyrics and song production! I have a question regarding the capo? For example, when you wrote, "I'de love you to want me," did you start out writing your song with a capo on the third fret or did that song evolve and become played in that key eventually? I think a capo can really influence how a song is devised and ultimately written.
    Thanks!

Hi Kent ☺ ... 'One and the Same Thing' ( as I've previously mentioned to you ), is my all time favourite of your many great songs ... these days, couples are somewhat moving away from traditional church hymns for their wedding ceremonies & choosing more contemporary songs / music instead. While you were writing it, did you ever consider that it may, one day 'possibly' become a song suitable to be played at a wedding ceremony? Also ... I can't find it listed on any of the albums here on your 'new' RUclips channel ... is there a reason for that please? It's ok, I do have it ... I play it rather a lot! 😉Finally, have you ever thought about re-releasing any of your songs? Yes ... I absolutely agree, your music is not only 'nice' for 'the soul' but gentle on the heart too. 💖 Wonderful to see you looking so amazingly well & handsome here Kent & I'm delighted to see that 'Life is Good' for you too. Look after yourself, stay safe 💞💞x
