    It's a funny thing about weight numbers. We have a 18 foot toy hauler travel trailer. It's max weight is 4800 lbs. The dealership salesman told us our 2003 Chevy Express 1500 Hightop Conversion Van could tow it. It has a 6600 lb tow capacity. Curb weight of 5200 lbs and a max payload of 2000 lbs. Well on paper by the VIN he was not mistaken. Unfortunately what we didn't know, was a conversion van is originally built as a cargo van and is registered as such. It does not include the conversion customization weight added to the van on the registration. We couldn't help but notice the van was struggling. I thought my engine or transmission was having problems. Especially after pulling mountain roads on the Pennsylvania turnpike, which caused our check engine light to flash. That was the last trip we took pulling the trailer with the van. We stopped at the Cat scale before we went home. We found out the van with us in it weighed 6059 lbs. The trailer weighed 3985 lbs. The following week, we purchased a Toyota Tundra. We love the RV life and were not going to give it up. I love my van too and was not going to kill it. Or trade it. No matter how good of an offer the truck dealership made me. Enjoy this day. Enjoy this life😊

    We're at Talona Ridge right now and met another very nice bounder owner couple who also follow you. Small world! We don't tow because we still have the hitch that was recalled, but it's nice to know how to weight the RV.

      Very nice and well-kept resort with nice size sites and long pads for the longer coaches. We are in a pull in site F12, which has a great view of the mountains and the sunrise. Next time we will stay at the top by the Grandview hall. A Barclay RV was here at the same time, and the owners of the company were inviting people in and talked about it.

    Great Video!!!!! It has taken me quite a long time to grasp why those numbers are important!!! I remember thinking to myself, "...why are we weighing axils?? And Why are we weighing tires individually!!!!" :::: shaking my head ::: Now I understand!!! Ok... loosely translated, we don't want to be "lopsided" in our weight distribution!!!! Very important information here! I will weigh my RV and post below with my findings!!! Thanks again for sharing "News you can USE!!! ~Big C in the DP 📢 ::: Air Horn 📢 ::: ::: Air Breaks! ::: 🚌🚌🚌

    Another great video, guys. I’ve weighed the motorhome a number of times, usually at a large moving company scales (Global Van Lines, North American Van Lines, United Van Lines, etc) but never at a CAT scale, which I’ve always wondered about. I loved seeing the process and will definitely give it a try on our next road trip! Thanks!

    When people shop for an RV, the CCC is THE most missed or ignored value of the vehicle weight and performance. You can find several RV's that look capable, but the CCC limit is so amazingly slow that by the time you add the weight of two passengers and the average amount of "wet" cargo and such, you are quickly overweight or are very limited to how much you can carry. All of those weights are important, of course, so thanks for the update!

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  3 месяца назад

    Well done guys, right to the point. Yes I weigh at least one a year. The first time I weighed my 35K with my Ranger, I under my GVWR of 22K but over my GCVWR by 400 lbs, I would normally carry a full tank of freshwater 100 gals. 834 lbs, had to reduce my freshwater by at least 1/4 to no more then a 1/2 tank of freshwater. Weights can be a bit confusing. With a gas coach your toad and your coach can be under the max tow or hitch capacity weight limits, you can still be over the GCVWR.

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, and that's what happened to us with the jeep. All our numbers were good but I think the extra weight added to the Jeep to us over the GCVWR.

    I love this!! So glad I watched. I remember hearing that exact advice, to weigh your RV in halves, and I was thinking about doing it until you mentioned how inaccurate that would be! Thank you😄 I’m thinking if I ever have a rig big enough to have a washer and dryer, I’ll be packing light items like chips and napkins underneath 😂😂💕

    I have my choice narrowed down to 2 gas motorhomes, a 2023 Fleetwood bounder 33c and a 2022 Winnebago adventurer 36z...based on your guys experience and reviews what would you choose between those 2?

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  3 месяца назад +1

      That's a tough one. The Bounder has a low CCC so be sure to calculate your planned GCWR especially if you plan to tow. Plus, we've had continuing problems with our 2021 Bounder, We are big fans of the features and floor plans from Winnebago. The 36z feels more roomy with the long passenger side slide. And we love the attention to details in the fixtures, flooring and cabinetry. That said we've seen somewhat of a decline in quality over the past year but if we had to choose, it would be Winnebago.

    Is there a reason you didn’t share the weights you received? I have the same RV and I am looking to buy a tow vehicle but I am very concerned about GCWR because with my math, and a 1/3 full water tank, you would very quickly approach the max 26,000 lb.

    • @AmpedtoGlamp
      @AmpedtoGlamp  3 месяца назад

      We shared the numbers after the weigh-in and at the end of the video. Yes, we were a bit over the max of 26,000lbs partly due the modifications I made to my jeep. The plan is to unload some of the stuff we've collected from the RV and try to lighten the jeep. Not sure if we'll get it down enough. We'll see. There will be a follow up video in the upcoming weeks.
      Front GAWR = 8000 Steer = 7200
      Rear GAWR = 1500 Drive = 14880
      CCC = 1571

    • @danlickfold3447
      @danlickfold3447 3 месяца назад

      @@AmpedtoGlamp Thanks but I remain a bit confused. If your Steer is 7200 and your drive is 14880, that puts the RV at 22,080 lbs against a rated max of 22,000 lbs GVWR. With a GCVR of 26,000 lbs, that means you only have 3,920 lbs for the Jeep, everything within the Jeep, and all of he towing equipment. What was your GCWR after your weigh in with everything including the Jeep? I ask because I am battling this same exact issue right now and it all seems to be right on the edge and I am wondering if people are OK exceeding some of these max limits by just a little bit or if it is a hard rule to ALWAYS be under the max limit. With a gas RV, at least the 35k, I am learning that towing creates definite concerns on weight issues. Obviously traveling with very little water in the tanks is a must. Thanks a ton for what you both do. Very helpful.
