Have someone track your location by GPS. There are so many campers who take a wrong turn and get stuck somewhere. If someone is tracking you, they can send a search team out to your last known location. That will narrow down the search perimeter. This happened to an elderly couple last year. The husband didn't make it. So sad.

I was nearly a victim of a ploy at a rest stop when I was staying there overnight. What typically happens is a male and a female will pretend that they are in a very loud argument and she will act as though she is being attacked, but this is just to get you to come out of your RV and when you do, the male will attempt to engage with you or when you go to comfort and protect the woman, the other party will slip into your RV and ransack it.
When this happened to me I had a feeling it was a scam and so I started yelling at them through my window to stop it and told them that I was calling the police. They quickly got into their vehicle and drove off, and I left as well. They found me driving down the highway and the male was in the passenger seat and started cursing at me.

Just a caution about using bear spray inside the rig. We were discussing this in the Ekko group (in a bear in the rig context) and someone pointed out that it's a wide spray and will get into everything and wreck your electronics. They recommended a narrow stream pepper spray inside the rig.

I am a 70 year old woman and I will be travelling by car on a 10 hour trip before stops with my 20 year old son. Normally there’s usually a group of about four adults travelling together so I am not concerned because we are always very alert as a group. He has some serious brain and spinal health issues that makes it dangerous for him to engage in physical altercations. He is also not so cautious of his surroundings as I would like for him to be. I don’t like the idea of him going into rest rooms alone, I think that I am going to order some pepper spray for him to protect himself with. That will at least give him the opportunity to get away from danger. I want him to be aware of his surroundings but I don’t want to scare him. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic. ❤

You gave some good advice, could save a life. For non lethal that's more effective than pepper spray, without the legal issues and mess bear spray can cause, I carry cans of Wasp & Hornet Spray. Aim for the eyes and it will stop both 2 legged and 4 legged threats in their tracks. I've also invested in some very loud mini bicycle alarms that sense motion. Can be discreetly attached to RV doors or camping gear around my campsite. When they move, I know, so does everyone else in the area. They are why I still have my remote solar panels. Also have some small personal alarms that have a belt clip, and a trigger pin attached to a thin strap. Pull the pin and things get really loud, won't stop till pin is put back into it's small hole or battery dies. I wear one of these when at Rest Stops, Gas Stations, often around campsite. When sleeping I can also have them discreetly strapped to doors and windows. making sure no one gets in without my knowing. And I sleep With my lethal options, so anyone who dares to enter may be ending their criminal career. Better judged by 12, than carried by 6. I choose to be the survivor, not a statistic.

I have asked this before on another channel and did not get a response. My question is: How do you get by with a lethal weapon on board when many campgrounds tell you that they do not allow fireworks or firearms on their property at any time? Do you not tell them that you have a firearm when asked or lie on the rules sheet when you sign up for that specific campground? Or do you just avoid campgrounds that specifically say in their terms that they don’t allow firearms of any type?

What I carry for my own safety I look at it as the 'nunya' effect. Ain't nunya business if I have a firearm or not. Pretty sure an intruder isn't abiding by a park rule regarding no firearms.

How people protect themselves and their property is their business, however, if a campground doesn’t allow firearms obviously one shouldn’t stay there. A firearm is one tool used for one’s safety, there are many other options if using a firearm is not your choice. If a person has their CCW; license to carry a concealed fireman they have the freedom to carry in most places, but there are limitations and rules that must be followed to keep their CWW, most responsible gun owners aren’t going to jeopardize their right to carry over lying on forms or other foolishness. And if the person is smart and responsible he or she will have conceal carry insurance which provides more valuable information that helps the the gun owner make informed decisions on firearm usage. Conceal insurance also well protects the weapon owner against liabilities. The responsible gun owner isn’t the one you should be concerned about. It’s funny how criminals use firearms with impunity no one seems bat an eye, until it’s too late. It’s up to you to Stay Safe on Road😊
