I think even within regulations that it’s easier to launch a Mini drone without drawing much public attention vs. a larger drone. This can be the difference of being able to get the shots that you want. The Mini 3 offers high video and image quality and will cause less public disturbance in most areas.
Field of view is not so important when you are in the air, since in most cases you can simply take the shot from further away and then get the same framing. The biggest problem with the Air 2S is the fact that you need a drone license for it here in Europe, as it weighs over 250g. If you don't want to do that, the only option is the Mini 3 Pro. But I think the differences in video quality are so small that most people won't notice it. A big advantage is of course the compactness: the best drone is the one you always have with you.

Thanks for the compresence. Which one you think better for photogrammetry? I want a DJI Mini 3 Pro but it seems more people happier with DJI Air 2S. What do you think which one suits better? Thanks
I am on the fence between these two but something I find important is the controller. Right now the DJI RC works with the Mini 3 but not the Air 2S. Of course, one could purchase the DJI RC Pro, which works with the Air 2S, but the price of it is more expensive than the Air 2S itself. I read an article a few months ago that the Smart Controller, which was an option with the Air 2S, has been discontinued. I've been holding out waiting to see if DJI updates its firmware so the DJI RC will work with the Air 2S, which I would likely jump on. Good video, thank you.
Apparently, DJ made a statement that compatibility with the DJ IRC will be coming this month in October. I’ll make a video about that once it is available.
Mini 3 has serious range issues. The transmission of real time footage is a problem on Mini3. Some claim to have the issue got a little better after a firmware update, it is still not as robust as the amazing range and transmission of Air2S. This is a big concern for me and hence, Air2S is hands a go to drone. Also, Air2S is better in all ways possible. The size difference between both of these also very insignificant.
I can reach 4+ miles with my Mini as opposed to maybe 3 miles on my Air 2s. Air 2s has a much shorter battery life providing even less range. I've found the Mini 3 with the larger battery is even better in the wind. Better power-to-weight ratio also.
The quality of the Air 2s sensor is amazing, the dynamic range is mind blowing. The Mini 3 Pro it´s not there imo, it lacks dynamic range, it blows the blacks much more often and the whites.
Drone size is very important in Europe , the Sub 250g mini 3 releaves you of many restriction. The -10 Celsius flying ability of the mini 3 is also a deal breaker in cold Europe. Mini 3 wins hansdown foe me.
This was my dilemma. I purchased my first drone in May and I got the Mini 2. This was the first drone i have ever flown and I became hooked. So I decided to get myself an early Christmas present and I figured I would upgrade my drone. I would pick either the Air 2S or the Mini 3 Pro. I eventually decided on the Air 2S. It will arrive tomorrow and i'll update when it gets here.
At 7:00, with the side-by-side, is the detail in the trees really the result of the sensor, or is that more of an exposure setting? The contrast on the 2S just seems better -- check out the detail in the foreground and the row of trees. There's a really stark difference.
Good video, I was looking for a newer drone han my old Mavic Air 2, to be used with the DJI Goggles 2... so this could be a good option. Also my old DJI-RC1 controller is compatible with the Mini 3 Pro, making the upgrade cheaper (only the Goggles would cost extra, but I'm also considering the Avata so... many things to consider ;) cheers
This is a great comparison video especially for a beginner like me. Unfortunately did not help me make a decision because I kept going back-and-forth between the 2 on the different features.. I'm not sure what I should start with.
I have had the 2S for a while now, picked up a M3 pro to see if it would compare. It for sure holds its own but I am returning it, main issues are over heating, wind resistance, and build quality. The light weight aspect just isn’t worth sacrificing performance compared to the 2S. I was simply transferring some media from the drone to my phone by wire as I couldn’t get the quick transfer to work, it overheated indoors with the room at 75°F. Flying in Florida, the drone was warm after flight, way hot compared to the 2S, it didn’t overheat during flight but it is for sure a concern if you read some other reviews. I feel the overheating issue is worth passing up the M3P alone.
I live in South FL, I was in between these two. Yes you’re right, but I was also considering in terms of ADS-B, I know that most of the time we fly in class G but I was thinking having ADS-B would be safer operation. Do you think is it too necessary ?
This is an Amazing Review. I've been holding off for a couple years getting a drone. I think the Mini 3 Pro is the one for me. I was tempted to go with the Air 2S, because it's sensor at 1" matches my other cameras. I can DEFINITELY see a difference in detail with the Air 2S coming out on top. That said, the huge difference in prices between the two with upgraded color controllers makes the Mini 3 a no brainer, at least for me. At the time of me writing this, the Mini 3 Pro with the RC color controller is US$909. For the Air 2S and the RC1Pro color controller I'd need to pay US$700-800 more.
@@kristenbrasil, I ended up with the Mini 3 Pro because of the controller. I didn’t want to fiddle with my phone. It’s a great drone, but the only one I have experience with.
In your video you said that you can fly a sub 250g drone in Canada beyond VLOS and go higher than 400 feet. Are you able to direct me to the section of the Transport Canada rules that state this? I only ask because i was always under the impression that both VLOS and over 400 feet were not allowed unless you have an SFOC.
That’s where it gets difficult. There’s not a rule that says you can but there’s not a rule that says you can’t for some 250. It gives you some suggestions for safe flight. It also states not to fly in a manner to put people or other aircraft at risk. This is what most people refer to as the don’t do anything stupid rule. Also just because you can doesn’t mean you should rule.
Was chafing at the bit on which one to get...being a older fella it got in the way of my logical thinking....so I just got them both,if I cant have two wife's at least I have my two Drones....live life like its suppose to be.....exciting
Pretty hard choice. I have the original Pro Controller with the Mini 2. The Air 2s can fly with the original Pro Controller where the Mini 3 cannot. I do like the size/weight of the Mini 3 along with camera quality. I’m leaning towards the Air 2s for compatibility sake and photo capabilities.
In this order the mini 3 pro then the Avata then a Air 3. Any higher will be the Maverick which is where if my company isn’t making 6 figures I’ll stay. If more than the skies the limit I’m looking at you inspire lol
Sorry my friend but the quality of air 2 s is far away better than mini 3 pro specifically if you color grading your videos… no compare I have the both
The Canada rules are so stupid, and rules in general. So I can fly a drone with no sensors beyond the eyesight limit but a drone with omni directional sensors not💀
when folded down and stored in a case, isn't it only saving you a fraction of the space? is the actual bag carrying the drone even noticeably different in size between these 2 models? it's not very noticeable to me anyways.. the air 2s will out perform the mini 3 pro in most ways especially in actual flight performance ans camera where it matters most. people need to be careful when deciding between these 2 as they are not apples to apples and the current price difference isn't very much. I have both and there's just no situation where I want the mini 3 pro over the air 2s. both are cool but the air 2s is superior in my opinion, in every way that matters.
It's amazing that the Mini drone has come so far that it now compete's against the likes of the Air 2S. If under 250 grams is important to you, the Mini 3 Pro is clear choice. If that's not important to you, than it's gets interesting, because the price point is very close if you go with the DJI RC controller version. Great comparison video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for taking the time do this comparison. Well done. I am hoping DJI will make the DJI RC compatible with the Air2s. The DJI RC really makes flying a bit more enjoyable without having to connect your phone/tablet.
@@AirPhotography are you saying that you think that the Air2S might get a firmware update in the future that will allow it to be flown with the mini 3 controller with the integrated monitor?
DJI is so awesome! I own the Air 2S, Skydio 2+, and the Avata. If I had to pick my favorite, it would have to be the Avata, just because of Its capability to fly FPV. So much fun!
I have a mini 2, now you have me wanting a 3 with that better low light camera. Just letting you know, my wife is going to be mad at you 🤣, once she finds out I heard it here, I got to blame someone, and your in Canada , so your out of her reach!
The 2S definitely has better image quality, no matter what certain reviewers are trying to make you believe :) I guess it's due to the sensor size (the area of the sensor is almost 2x, just do the math), sharpness is better (I think partially due to the smaller aperture, not just the sensor), noise is lower, there is less color fringing, and D-Log will always be better than D-Cinelike. 5.7k is also a no brainer. FWIW, in my country, the 2S is now actually cheaper than the 3 Pro (799 EUR with controller). The big question is whether you can live with the higher weight and noise of the 2S.
Very nice and informative review but... Saying that the cameras are comparable is fairly inaccurate. You do mention "a bit more detail in the trees". However the details is A LOT higher in the 2S. The mini 3 foliage is pretty mushy and the shadow detail is virtually non existent. I have had some difficulty pulling up shadow detail from the 2s and imagine that the 3 is so much more difficult. If the drone is going to be used for photography the 2s has significant advantages from an image quality perspective. You can convince yourself that this is the case by looking at the DP Review galleries where there are multiple .dng samples from both drones. The 2s files are noticeably better, particularly in harsh light.
Had the air 2s when it came out, worst dji drone I ever flown. Maybe it's my unit or bad luck , it disconnected every 1km , lense problem, signal problem, overheating problem . Replaced with a new unit after i rage at their service center, sold it and quit drone . The only drone that never ever disappointed me was the Phantom 4 Pro. Down side is the weight and size
It's tough deciding between the 2 since performance is not too far from each other as both are impressive but budget and size preference could be the deciding factors.
I am based in Ireland, on the coast where it can be quite windy. I am hoping to purchase a drone soon to start my own part time hobby / side hustle business. Potentially weddings, real estate, local sports clubs etc. Not too worried about the weight as registration is not expensive in Ireland. Although I travel a lot around Europe with my job and I would love to be free to take it with me. What is the best option for me I really cant decide. Obviously if I do well I intend to upgrade or add to my fleet so could eventually own both. Any advice welcome, thank you.
Very good video comparison but I felt like a lot of the points were put in such a way to make the Mini 3 sound better than the Air 2. The downsides of the Mini were always played off as not that bad or "I've never experienced that". I appreciate an unbiased review but it's clear you favor the Mini. Either be flat out unbiased/neutral or do a "this is better than that" review.
I appreciate you taking the time to go over and clarify details in these comparisons, but I wonder why, being a Canadian and all, you usually mention prices in USD without saying what the prices would be in CAD.
Mini might look more vibrant but there is absolutely no contrast or range in the shadows of the clouds. That is a huge difference especially if you do some simple color grading... then its even more of a difference
Good video. Is anyone here active flying the air2s in the USA for recreation? And can you still get past the no fly zones by opting to share your flight log?
thinking about getting the air 2s for the sensor reason meaning it has more sensors then the air 2s due to me crashing my DJI phantom 4 want to get back into drone flying too much fun
difficult for me. i have a air2s and as we also see in the comments thats in many points slightly the better drone. But the 2 Main aspects for me for the mini 3 is even not the Travel weight or license issues. its the amazing lowlight performance and the option to really film upwards which i think are really beautiful shots. I will keep my Air2s but mb if i can afford i will go for a Mini 3 Pro as second Drone for traveling and for nightshots and creative upshooting. at least i dont need to buy a new controller. so if i can get it mb in 1 year second hand without controller it could be a nice option. And on top you have like an backup if something happens. So all in all even if i would buy both new i would be still cheaper then a Mavic 3 and i could do some things that even the Mavic 3 cant.
Hey you didn’t really compare the still photo qualities side by side. Would love to see the difference . I love the vertical shooting capability and the more vibrant colors of the mini 3 pro, but read that in photos the 2s just feel like pro level photos. Any comments about that?
9:50. I was wondering about the wind effects on the less weighty mini 3pro also. I thought it would fly less stable but I watched another review where the guy swears he saw no instability.
one of the huge differences is air 2s has open API allowing 3rd party mapping/mission control and photogramerty software to be run -mini 3 this is a blocked feature
I would love to buy the Air2 for video quality and stability given by the weight. However, the Mini 3 pro is smaller, so it draws less attention, and... I don't need a license. Which is awesome. And it's more travel friendly, and I plan to travel a lot. So FOR ME, it's the 3 Pro. But I do see the advantages of the Air2.
Those are some very valid points quite often. I reach for my mini 3 just because it is so quiet and inconspicuous when I’m flying. And at the end of the day it is an incredible and powerful drone and can capture some pretty impressive Content
In Canada you are. For micro drones under 250 g they give you suggestions. The only main rule is you can’t do anything that would put aircraft or people at risk. So as long as you fly safely and not recklessly you can
It is definitely better but I don’t really know if it’s by much. I’ve spent a lot of time comparing and I don’t know if you’re deciding between the two. If you should base video quality on the decision as they are very close.
Arrrgghhh... I dont know which one to get.. Don't say get both lol.. I am just afraid if I dont get the air 2s I'll be bummed when it comes to wind.. But love the idea of the mini 3 with the upgraded controller with screen and the lower noise..
Close? Com on man. You can clearly see the blurry mess when zoomed in on the 3. That was not close at all. The 3 is smaller .. less noisy. But when you said that you wouldn’t base you’re purchase off the video quality .. I’m not sure what you use you’re drones for.. as these are cinematic drones. For me camera quality first..
I disagree with that statement that the Mini 3 is a blurry mess. I did state in the video when I was cropped in that the air 2s was sharper. Overall in My opinion the image quality is quite good.
Indeed I did make note of that, but I wonder if what’s going on there is more digital sharpening. Most cameras don’t look good when you crop in that far
What do you consider “close” when it comes to cinematic? If you think this is cinematic footage, and that’s what you’re concerned with, you should step up to a zenmuse X7 because your not getting cinematic quality out of these drones as you would with a professional drone.
In the UK sub 250g is a big deal as well, Can fly close to and over uninvolved people, and can fly in residential, recreational, commercial and industrial areas, over 250g you need to stay 150m away.
So I keep hearing different things about these drones in Canada. I had a Mini 2 and was told by bylaw officers in Richmond that I wasn't allowed any drones at all here.
Ended up selling my air2s to get the mini 3 for some Canadian trips, longer flights and smaller foot print..and a good companion to my bigger Mavic 3 classic and Rc pro..
I prefer the air 2s. Way more detail in the video and much much better photos. And, as far as stability in wind goes, there's no comparison.
👍
What is the main negative to the weight? Amd is It forced on you?? Just curious
Lost my mavic air in the pacific ocean. Only concern for me for the mini 3 pro ... windy cause I fly on the coast a lot

Imagine if DJI collaborated with Sony to push out BSI sensors. The low light on these drones would be insane!
they already colaborate with Haselblad which eats Sony for breakfast.. but for that you have to go with Mavic
@@dnch - Idk. The best sensors in terms of low light and dynamic range is Sony
Mini 3 has everything I want in a drone
10 but color
4k 30
Good photos
Good low light
Good remote
Drone size is very important in Europe , the Sub 250g mini 3 releaves you of many restriction. The -10 Celsius flying ability of the mini 3 is also a deal breaker in cold Europe. Mini 3 wins hansdown foe me.
Since I’m going to the Balkins, Greece and Italy this summer, this is important. Thank you for stating this.
I know that Light House. Just shot it a week ago.
Update?!
Looking forward to the update
Congrats on finding new hobby.
Lmao…and no update. Not a man of his word. No one is anymore.
4:40 Yeaa but the color looks more vibrant to me on the Mini 3. The Air 2s looks a bit more washed out
I wish someone would compare the mini 3 pro to the original Mavic Pro.
I'll stick with my Air2S and mini 2, no need for the 3
At 7:00, with the side-by-side, is the detail in the trees really the result of the sensor, or is that more of an exposure setting? The contrast on the 2S just seems better -- check out the detail in the foreground and the row of trees. There's a really stark difference.
Good video, I was looking for a newer drone han my old Mavic Air 2, to be used with the DJI Goggles 2... so this could be a good option. Also my old DJI-RC1 controller is compatible with the Mini 3 Pro, making the upgrade cheaper (only the Goggles would cost extra, but I'm also considering the Avata so... many things to consider ;) cheers
Thank you for the review! I love Air2s.. Solid Power Racehorse!
This is a great comparison video especially for a beginner like me. Unfortunately did not help me make a decision because I kept going back-and-forth between the 2 on the different features.. I'm not sure what I should start with.
Both are excellent drones it can be a very tough decision
I am in the same boat! Did you decide on the mini 3 pro? Any reason why you didn't want to use the standard RC remote for $300 extra with the air S 2?
The mini 3 is compatible now 🙂
👍
In this order the mini 3 pro then the Avata then a Air 3. Any higher will be the Maverick which is where if my company isn’t making 6 figures I’ll stay. If more than the skies the limit I’m looking at you inspire lol
Sorry my friend but the quality of air 2 s is far away better than mini 3 pro specifically if you color grading your videos… no compare I have the both
The Canada rules are so stupid, and rules in general. So I can fly a drone with no sensors beyond the eyesight limit but a drone with omni directional sensors not💀
I've been torn between these two drones. I find them to be equally great but I opted for the Mini 3 Pro to have it as a travel drone.
when folded down and stored in a case, isn't it only saving you a fraction of the space? is the actual bag carrying the drone even noticeably different in size between these 2 models? it's not very noticeable to me anyways.. the air 2s will out perform the mini 3 pro in most ways especially in actual flight performance ans camera where it matters most. people need to be careful when deciding between these 2 as they are not apples to apples and the current price difference isn't very much. I have both and there's just no situation where I want the mini 3 pro over the air 2s. both are cool but the air 2s is superior in my opinion, in every way that matters.
2s is my workhorse...mini 3 is my flex....know your mission
Another great comparison video, with detail contents and unbiased opinion. Continue the excellent work!!
Thank you
It's amazing that the Mini drone has come so far that it now compete's against the likes of the Air 2S. If under 250 grams is important to you, the Mini 3 Pro is clear choice. If that's not important to you, than it's gets interesting, because the price point is very close if you go with the DJI RC controller version. Great comparison video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
Great
I have m3p and air 2s but all depends to travel m3p is the best and regular action my baby air 2s
Thank you for taking the time do this comparison. Well done. I am hoping DJI will make the DJI RC compatible with the Air2s. The DJI RC really makes flying a bit more enjoyable without having to connect your phone/tablet.
I have a feeling we will see compatibility soon. Thank you very much and thanks for watching my video
@@AirPhotography are you saying that you think that the Air2S might get a firmware update in the future that will allow it to be flown with the mini 3 controller with the integrated monitor?
Hi! I think the RC is compatible now with the air2s based on what I saw. Maybe things changed!
Now in UAE DJI Air 2s Combo Pack price is the same as the Mini 3 Pro , which one should i buy ?
DJI is so awesome! I own the Air 2S, Skydio 2+, and the Avata. If I had to pick my favorite, it would have to be the Avata, just because of Its capability to fly FPV. So much fun!
i think for youtubers like us air 2s is the way to go for traveling n vlogging
I have a mini 2, now you have me wanting a 3 with that better low light camera. Just letting you know, my wife is going to be mad at you 🤣, once she finds out I heard it here, I got to blame someone, and your in Canada , so your out of her reach!
I am using Air 2S and I am using it very satisfactorily. This comparison video was very helpful.👍👍
YaHOOOOOOOOOOO 23rd. I'm getting there . Let's watch.
Mikey
It's tough deciding between the 2 since performance is not too far from each other as both are impressive but budget and size preference could be the deciding factors.
i bought m3p was thinking buying a2s but it's a bit bulky so
I am based in Ireland, on the coast where it can be quite windy.
That is a good point I probably should start doing that.
Mini might look more vibrant but there is absolutely no contrast or range in the shadows of the clouds. That is a huge difference especially if you do some simple color grading... then its even more of a difference
Excellent comparison. the color depth is 10bit on both. Sold my fpv, and thinking about the mini 3 pro.
Which one flys better? I’m not sure which one of these to get. Just to fool around with and see what’s going on around my neighborhood.
Don't forget about Air2s has ADS-B AirSense!!!!!
Good point thanks for sharing. I forgot that
The air 2s has a Much better dynamic range
Between these two, which would you recommend for Real Estate photos and videos. I live in the US.
Nice comparison, but you didn't mention the difference in photo quality between the 48mp and 20mp cameras!
difficult for me. i have a air2s and as we also see in the comments thats in many points slightly the better drone.
9:05 I read elsewhere the 4x digital zoom produces horrible quality.
I got my answer about overheating in here...thanks!
one of the huge differences is air 2s has open API allowing 3rd party mapping/mission control and photogramerty software to be run -mini 3 this is a blocked feature
I see often you are speaking about the min 3 instead of mini 3 pro?
Air 2s looks more stable on air , amazing picture quality aswell ✊
I would love to buy the Air2 for video quality and stability given by the weight.
However, the Mini 3 pro is smaller, so it draws less attention, and... I don't need a license.
Which is awesome.
And it's more travel friendly, and I plan to travel a lot.
So FOR ME, it's the 3 Pro.
But I do see the advantages of the Air2.
Those are some very valid points quite often. I reach for my mini 3 just because it is so quiet and inconspicuous when I’m flying. And at the end of the day it is an incredible and powerful drone and can capture some pretty impressive Content
Don’t let them get you just get the Mimi..
Pay so much money just to have a hawk destroy your small investment ? :)
Recently went to Spain and the agro to get a license to fly over 250g was not even worth it, I left it at home, hence looking at the mini pro 3
i didn't know you're allowed to fly higher than 120meters (400ft) with a micro drone
In Canada you are. For micro drones under 250 g they give you suggestions. The only main rule is you can’t do anything that would put aircraft or people at risk. So as long as you fly safely and not recklessly you can
@@AirPhotography thanks for clarifying that to me. Good to know ✌️
wanted to ask if the photo and video on the air2s is better or much better than the mini 3 pro.
It is definitely better but I don’t really know if it’s by much. I’ve spent a lot of time comparing and I don’t know if you’re deciding between the two. If you should base video quality on the decision as they are very close.
Excellent information thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Arrrgghhh... I dont know which one to get.. Don't say get both lol.. I am just afraid if I dont get the air 2s I'll be bummed when it comes to wind.. But love the idea of the mini 3 with the upgraded controller with screen and the lower noise..
In the UK join a flying club for £20 a year and you can fly any drone under article 16 check it out.
The comparison I was waiting for
Don't forget here in the US we use Fahrenheit instead not Celsius!
Close?
@@AirPhotography compared to the 2s zooming in.
Indeed I did make note of that, but I wonder if what’s going on there is more digital sharpening. Most cameras don’t look good when you crop in that far
“Blurry mess” were my exact thoughts! The comparison was night and day when zoomed.
Canada, Canada, Canada.. thought this was a comparison video.
