Brett you are one of my favorite interviewers! Your curiosity and ability to let your guest fully explain the answers to your questions. This particular interview was so instructive and enlightening! Rob knows his stuff and lives up to everything he states. Great playing! Thanks Brett again!
@@BrettPapa Brett, I just want to share a thought and don't mean to be critical , cuz these videos are incredible, it just seems that when you so "yah" every time your guest says something it comes across like you're rushing them to finish. Just food for thought and thanks for doin what you do
This is one of the best vids I have seen in a while. Just to weigh in on the Hendrix thing, he used Fenders absoluteley sometimes. The thing a lot of people get wrong though is his rhythm was usually buried in the mix for the most part, but everyone wants to play his rhythms super in your face.
I'm trying to go to bed it's late. But I just can't leave this,,, yes I could watch both tomorrow and probably will but it grips you this stuff thank you bith
Man I’m nerding out on this hard! Such detail and nuance about guitar / amp sound variations. Super cool. I own a 65 deluxe reverb (was my dads) and I need to get that baby up and running.
my 3 takeaways from this are 1. Rob is a stellar player, 2. I need a gold top, 3. definitely going to play around with my echoplex today and try to recreate some of those sounds. thank you!
Talking about how hard SRV played, he DID play extremely hard, but he used the round side of a pick. You can really hit a guitar hard without it sounding like it if you use the round side of the pick.
Watching this after spending the last 4 hours trying to connect a used saffire 6 interface to my computer and man this intro to his gear just rubbed salt in my wound all lol.
I use an eminance cv 75 in my drluxe reverb reissue . That said I have moded the circuit some . And it really tamed those schrill highs the reissue was problematic for.
Thanks! They are being recorded in the other room and running through ProTools into my portable recorder. What you are hearing is the track in ProTools.
Thanks so much! I probably should have asked a slightly different question... are you hearing it through the amps in the other room or through pro tools or of the monitors behind you guys? What do you hear there? Thank you so much.
There's a movie on Netflix about how Chess records started and found Muddy Waters and Little Walter...Howlin Wolf was on there too...I think its called Cadillac Records
Wish i could tell you specifically, With Marshalls, I don't look when I twist the knobs... I turn them until they sound right. I never know where the marshall tone knobs are set.... wish i was more helpful, but try that approach sometime. Play a chord and while its ringing out, make the adjustments. You'll be surprised what you end up with...
Teles RAWK. 'n'ROLL.....what a good conversation u have with these folks, good questions that don't suck AND u let THEM talk.... wicked good stuff. thnx, EH! frm Vancouver islnd, .ca ;0) M
Again Im a bit late to the party, but again, this is sooo great. You two guys are just amazing together. And offcourse I hate Rob, he makes me feel really bad with his amazing tone, wonderful guitars, great amps, musical playing, who cares………… Bring him back please, this does not suck at all :-)
I always play with the rounded side,& also did Stevie Ray Vaughan,,, he played with the rounded side, Ted Nugent plays with the rounded side,,, list goes on,there's different angles u can hold a pick to achieve a certain sound...but that's me,,,. Signed a Detroit guitarist for 55 + years. Rounded side please,& get that Right Hand movin'!
@@BrettPapa I have an HD 130 that I use from time to time I've carried it all over the country. After all these yrs I suddenly realized it could double as a bass amp. I've also used an HD 150 but I wasnt really impressed by it. That said I did need it for a show we did outside Cincinatti Ohio at Edge water raceway . The show was put on by the American Federation of Riders. There were over 25,000 people at that show. All the money collected was donated to different orphaniges around the Cincinatti area. Lots of cool memories and some cool stories I might share later.

Thanks John! Glad to hear you liked the vid! More with Rob coming soon!

This is why I love the net. Could watch this all day.
Thanks for checking it out Martyn! Glad you liked the vid!

Thoroughly enjoyed this gents , cheers. Rob is a funny guy and has a kind face and knowledge he is happy to share .
Thanks for tuning in! Glad you liked the vid!
Your stratocaster is a jangle and twang machine! Its super underrated in that department and that's why i love that guitar
what a useful quantity and quality of information. also helps that both Rob and Brett are able to verbalize their knowledge. much appreciated.
Sure thing Richard! Glad you liked it!
I first discovered McNelley's guitar playing when he toured with, Delbert McClinton. Very smooth.
Yep for sure!
Delbert is awesome as his his latest record.
Everybody asks what’s new. Rob proves better questions are what’s great and how do I use it! Awesome session.
You should totally develop a course with Rob. Your one with Corey has been a huge help. Thanks Brett!
Working on that one! He is so busy as a session guy its hard to pin him down lol! Hopefully it will happen sometime this year.
Brett and Rob, you guys are fantastic! Really digging all the videos you’ve done together recently. We definitely need that Tele video next!

Yeah, some people even let the guitars be heard in both speakers. Jimi would be so mad
WOW !!!!
The playing and quality tone !!!!
Such good tones! Rob is the master!
Man what an amazing video! I never heard this guy before and i became a fan! Good one Papa! Cheera from Brasil!
Thanks Andre! Rob is amazing! Check out his channel and you can see him play live. Great stuff!
Hey guy thanks. I'm learning and getting tips and tricks from you guys. Thanks
Awesome John! Thanks for tuning in!
Really would love more videos based around getting tones with the session cats. Great stuff, Brett.
Will do! More like that on the way!

Great interview and show Brett. You definitely know how to coax the best and most out of your guests.
Thanks so much Robert! More Rob coming soon!
my 3 takeaways from this are 1. Rob is a stellar player, 2. I need a gold top, 3. definitely going to play around with my echoplex today and try to recreate some of those sounds. thank you!
Yes to all 3 of those! Have fun!
@@BrettPapa I ordered the gold top yesterday. I didn't hold out too long. thanks again.
Great show! That gold top sounded sick

Great lesson !! Rob your hired! Love the way you play!
Rob is the man!
New sub here Brett. Because of your demo of the Wampler tumnus Deluxe, I ended up purchasing that pedal.
Awesome man! Thanks for the sub!
Rob is another great. Thanks a million Brett
Sure thing Frankie! More Rob coming soon!
Talking about how hard SRV played, he DID play extremely hard, but he used the round side of a pick. You can really hit a guitar hard without it sounding like it if you use the round side of the pick.
Sweet Gibsons!!! Wow
I know he has got so much awesome stuff!
I reckon Rob looks like Bill Burr.
Oh yea, and he totally rocks. Thanks for sharing this one lads! 🎸🤘
I think he gets that a lot. Rob is super funny as well. And yes he rocks big time!
What an awesome video! What a musician! Thanks Brett Papa!!!
Thanks! Hopefully we can get Rob back soon!
Brett This is great stuff. Thank you and Rob for doing this.
Glad to hear you liked it Brian! Thanks for watching!
I read somewhere that Hendrix used a Dual Showman on that long VooDoo Child jam.
Freakin fantastic, DO THE TELE SESION WITH ROB MCNELLY , I NEED IT

Haha thanks Adam! Rob is an A list session guy in town and man is he booked up! I'll see what we can do.
Watching this after spending the last 4 hours trying to connect a used saffire 6 interface to my computer and man this intro to his gear just rubbed salt in my wound all lol.
Lol
Dear Bratt, love your channel and your work! Greetings from Austria! 👍🌈♥️

Thanks Brett! You nailed it - a Killer-Guitar-Tone-video!
Thanks Bob! Glad you liked it!
Bret seems like a straight up guy!
Thanks!
Ahah and the Seger story comes out playing on gems like those guitars. Sounds fun!
Fuuuuu...that is non-stop amazing tone!
Yep Rob always has killer tone! A ton of it is in his hands!
More Rob!!!
I'm working on that haha!
Man, I enjoy this stuff.

Mike Campbell played through a princeton most of the time, even in concert he would mic it.
Yep and it sounded great!
17:22 "It was a lot like what we do today still, just in a more primitive time.." ROFL..
Fantastic episode! id love to hear you play together sometime!
Thank ya sir! I am sure that will happen sometime in the future.
U guys offer some good stuff.thank you!
Thanks John!
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing all the info and playing. Amazing. Question: are the amps in the other room playing through the monitor speakers?
57:31 I was listening to this in the car with my kid (she’s nine and hilarious) and we both went “Heh heh. BUTTS.” 😂
Lol
There's a movie on Netflix about how Chess records started and found Muddy Waters and Little Walter...Howlin Wolf was on there too...I think its called Cadillac Records
Awesome I'll have to check it out.
Man I want a Les Paul so bad but don't want to drop the cash. They sound so awesome like you can play them all day without even realizing it.
For sure! I feel the same way lol!
you can play them all day but only if you're sitting down. they are a bit heavy. still worth owning for sure.
Love it!!!!
Thanks Roman! Glad you liked it!
Awesome episode guys. Just wish he would have gone into a little more advice for playing live. Great stuff none the less. 👍🏼
Thanks Edward!
Rob you're awesome!
Rob is the man!!
I really enjoyed this one.
Thanks for checking it out Billy!
Will the Tele episode happen? I neeeeed it! lol
We need to do that one of theses days! Rob is a busy cat!
Sick tones lots of $$$ in that room. Is all of this half step down? Just curious 🤘🏻
Standard 440
Haha for sure! No I think it was all in standard.
I wish I had back my 67 Gibson Flying V!! Only worth about 15k now!
I bet!
Don't forget that most of what you hear on Zeppelin albums is a Silvertone amp.
Page - Often what’s assumed to be a Les Paul is a tele through a Supro amp.
Line6 Spider Insane Mode has entered the chat
Sounds great!
Only 105 comments...Why? Cuz we're speechless!
Lol! Thanks Bud!
Awesome tones! What are the eq settings on the Marshall?
Wish i could tell you specifically, With Marshalls, I don't look when I twist the knobs... I turn them until they sound right. I never know where the marshall tone knobs are set.... wish i was more helpful, but try that approach sometime. Play a chord and while its ringing out, make the adjustments. You'll be surprised what you end up with...
Not sure. I'll do more on that next time.
This is Amazing ! Unbelievable I wish I had the cash to get some of those toys!
Me too! So much great gear.
DO ONE OF THESE KIND OF VIDEOS WITH BRAD PAISLEY!!
Haha! Met him the other day. Maybe if I see him again I'll ask. He doesn't live too far from me.
@@BrettPapa oh man!!! Fingers crossed for sure!!! Brad’s a monster player! Early 2000’s they called him EVH on cornbread! He’s beast!

Yeah that is a great trick. Tons of guys here in town play that way too.
did you know what's the studio monitor behind you ?
The guy just seems so cool.
He is! Total stand up dude! Very humble as well.
Holly ice pick 😳
Please do a Tele episode with Rob!!
Will do!
1:02:44
1:17:06 fuzz!
Yep and its a good one too!
Being Out Of Tune Builds Character :-)
Which pick does he use please ?
How do you guys feel about music man amps I'm talking about the older ones.
Some of them sound great!

Thats how I set my DOD analog delay.
Awesome!
I have an EP3 echoplex....do you recommend someone to work on it?
Not unless its broken or needs it.
were the overdrive pedals after the echoplex?
No
What pickups are in the Rick N. LP?
Not sure
I wanna be a geek too.... can I hang out with you weirdos? More? Please?
Sure!
Anyone know what strings Rob uses?
I think just regular 10-46 on most stuff. I know a couple of them had 11's on there though.
I heard that Hendrix used a potato with cheese for his lead sound. He could use anything.
Salami, too.
Lol!
I am Trying to Figure out why there isn't a Camera Angle with some Footage on his Pedalboard. Anyone?
Only had two that day. Ive shot other videos with Rob where it shows that same board. Just search his name on my main channel page.
- It's like Classic coke
-Yeah! Nothing wrong with that!
Haha!
Yeah yeah yeah ah hum
Yeah haha
