As a widow, under normal circumstances I will purchase my fabric from, Hyson Green Market, Nottingham, and Birmingham Rag market. The quality varies but the cheaper Jerseys are always good for a twell or beginners. xxx
Yes totally agree jersey works so well for changing body sizes and it super comfy. Its so tricky at the moment with us not being able to go to our normal places. Hopefully we will return to normal life soon. Thanks for watching 😁
I bought the Bamboo Jersey in Blueberry from Raystitch. It’s absolutely beautiful. Only trouble was, I waited 10 days for it to arrive in the post but I’m less than a minutes walk away 😬 worth the wait though and they applied the rules 👍🏻 I do agree with you, Viscose Jersey is my favourite too.
Thanks for this - very interesting. In my head I have been thinking I would only use viscose jersey for drapey tops, but will try some for a simpler tee. I love cotton jersey and had assumed it would last longer because it has more body and feels more robust. You have some lovely fabric - I am intrigued to see what you make with that Liberty print.

Sorry I didn’t see this until now. I have used any thread on my overlocker I keep the gutterman thread for my machine and use up the others on my overlocker. I prefer the coats moon thread from minerva if I am buying sets of colours though.
Its really difficult because this differs from machine to machine. I do mention more about this in my jersey question and answer video and the cotton jersey fabric video. Some machines don't like sewing knits, watch the other 2 videos and come back to me if you have more questions. :)

Am thinking I will try the Mayfair Dress although I have the Keilo too. I do have a question though.... Do the edges roll more than with cotton jersey, and how do you cope with it rolling? I’m concerned it will be difficult to keep my seam allowances accurate!

Yes ribbon is also fine you just need something that won't stretch and isn't too bulky. Definitely try the straight stitch, test it out on a double layer of spare fabric first.
Normally I just make the same size, its all according what pattern I’m making. Also the quality/thickness of the viscose jersey. Sometimes I will just grade out from the waist of the pattern.
Kealy, I had to get back to this great video, because I made the mistake of buying really thin viscose jersey and now I don't know if I can make a nice dress out of it, without it showing every bump... I was thinking of making the Joni dress from Tilly's Stretch book, but I'm afraid of all the bumps showing from my bra and such. Even a wrap top like the Westcliff, with a nice flowy skirt might be too clingy still. Maybe I'm just a bit too pessimistic haha, but do you have any more tips for really thin viscose dresses? I was even thinking of lining a wrap top, with a fuller skirt under it, but I have no idea if that would work or feel nice. Maybe your hacked shirt dress would work nice. I do have the Tabitha shirt pattern to try that with. Sorry for thinking out loud in a comment, but I just really value your ideas, especially with this elaborate video on the fabric! Any way, thanks so much for making this great video. I'm really looking forward to making some heavier weight viscose jersey dresses soon!
Yes I have heard of that but I have compared fabrics which have the same weight yet aren't the same quality. Thanks for the reminder about it though. 😊

Hi Kealy, I think you would be the best to advise me about knits. Do you use special thread in your overlocker for knits?

I don't think it rolls that much not whilst sewing. The edge of the unhemmed Elliott tee was flat for a while, then I stretched it to make it roll. 😁

Do you go up a size for a T-shirt as opposed to a cotton jersey?I find the viscose j shows my tummy more.

Are you familiar with the GSM, grams per square metre, of fabric? You can tell if the jersey fabric is a good weight by asking the seller for the GSM.
