Like many others who have found this video, i am new to loom knitting, and 😢 appreciated your excellent directions and advice. I despaired over the loose edge with a figure 8 cast on, and this idea for taking up the slack is awesome. Thank you!
i was given a loom as a gift and had no clue where to start. I saw a lot of videos but they were so confusing not to mention they left me with more questions than answers. I appreciate the true step by step instructions. Great video
I too am new to loom knitting & this was a huge help. I did make an adjustment to the way I pull the loops off! I'm doing an afghan & holding the loop just got too long so instead of pulling it up, I pull it out to the side & bring the loop over just before the slack is out. Way faster, less confusing & more comfortable for me & 3 + yards of yarn did not get tangled once. Loved this technique.
Hmmm, are you doing this technique each row? Kinds sounds like you are. You don't have to do this technique for each row. You only do this technique for the cast on row. The rest of your pattern you wrap the pegs as you normally would. At the end of the video I mention after the cast you wrap as normal. I am sorry if I misunderstood what you asked previously, but if you are wrapping normally after the cast on row you shouldn't have a issue with extra yarn. If you still need help you are welcome to record what you're doing in a small clip on your phone and email it to me at lcfiberarts@gmail.com so I can look at it closer. I would need to see how you are wrapping and a good view of where you're working on your loom. I know being new there's a lot of terminology to remember and techniques, stitches and such. I want to help you be successful. Since you are still having issues with excess yarn, if you can send me a video clip so I can see what is going on to help. 🙂
Christy, I just got my first double rake loom and followed your advice to tighten up the cast-on. It worked perfectly, and I am so excited to see what this will look like when I am finished! Thank you for your clear directions, easy-to-follow pace, and great camera work!
Thank you so much for your easy explanation on how to fix my cast on row. I really appreciate how you not only showed us how to do it but you also explained it so well. I have been looming since last year August and some videos I have seen have been a bit confusing for me. So thank you, much appreciated.
Thank you so much for teaching me this technique! I just used it on my 38 inch loom for a blanket. Now the end will look nice. Sending you virtual 🤗 hugs! Mona from Saint Louis
Boy, am I glad you're back again!!!! I have missed you and, in particular for me, your creative loom patterns immensely. I hope all is well. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve for us! Be safe and take ❤
Hey Patty! Awesome to see you too! Thank you for your kind words! Very much appreciated! We're hanging in there! You be safe too and Merry Christmas! 🥰
Thank you so much for showimg me how to do this. I keep restarting because I couldn't figure out why my beginning cast on stitiches were so loose. I thought it was something I was doing wrong. You have saved me.
Awesome!!!! I’m new and having two different ends was so frustrating and gave a sloppy look. Even crocheting at the end. This is exactly what I was looking for!!! Thank you 🙏🙏🙏💗💞💕
I just tried the first time and I don't have it down, but being left-handed, it helps so much to see it done this way. I looked at some other videos, but this one was more clear for me!
I’m so happy to have found your channel! I am also a left-handed Loomer, and it is sometimes quite a challenge to convert the right handed instructions to what works for me. Thank you so much! I’m ready to choose my loom and start a new project now! I have a lot of scrap yarn, and I’m anxious to figure out what to do with it.
Hi, Linda! Happy to have you here! Always great to meet Lefty loomers! 😊 If you are on Facebook I have a page there under Looming Crafty Fiber Arts and a group by the name of LCFiber Arts if you'd like to join those too. Happy Looming!
Thank you. I am new to this and I cannot get the beginning tight enough. I am right handed but I do everything like this the opposite like I am left handed. I don’t know why 😂😂
Thank you. I've just started loom knitting and have been bothered by the loose bottom. Do you have a video on casting off? This has been very helpful as I am about to start a new scarf.
You're welcome. This is the bind off I always use when double knitting scarves. There are however, other double knit bind off methods for double knitting. Liked & Subscribed! I’m a crocheter & new to looming. Finally a technique that makes sense on those darn loose ends. Almost gave it up, but I’m going to try it your way! 🤗
Thank you for your subscription and like. I appreciate it. I hope this cast on is working well for you. It's my go to cast on now when double knitting.
Please help, have followed your video for Figure of 8 cast on and thereafter wrapped yarn as before and tried knitting the same Figure of 8 stitch. Stitches were very loose and does not look as compared to pictures I see on the web. What yarn must one use for loom knit projects, is it one has to use only Chunky yarn. I live in Mumbai, India, very keen to learn looming.
You need to know the gauge of your loom. You can figure this by measuring from center of one peg to center of a peg next to it. This will give you the gauge. If your measurement is ⅝ then you will need to use a #5 Bulky yarn or a #6 Super Bulky yarn. If you're gauge measures ½ then you can use a #4 worsted or a #5 Bulky yarn. If your gauge is ¾ then you need to use a #6 Super Bulky yarn or a #7 Jumbo yarn. So, knowing your loom gauge is very important to match your yarn weight to.
If you are talking about tightening up your cast on when knitting in the round check out this video by Denise of Loomahat. ruclips.net/video/vs5nzqX5wFs/видео.html
I'm a newbie, having started loom knitting in October of this year. First of all, thank you for demonstrating this awesome cast on technique! I do have a question, tho. Do I need to stretch my project at all as I continue knitting additional rows, or will this tighter way of casting on be enough?
Welcome to loom knitting! After you do this cast on you don't have to do anything but continue to double knit your project as usual. This cast on gives a nice tidy, neat edge to match your bind off.
I’m new to loom knitting and I normally crochet. Hoping someone can give me further advice bc I got them tight just like in the video, but then the next round was loose again, where as hers were still tight. My first round stayed nice and tight but it’s every round following that are loose. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!
There could be a few factors that I can think of right off. Is your loom fixed or adjustable between the rakes? If it is fixed meaning the distance between rakes can't be changed you may be using the wrong weight of yarn for the gauge of loom you are using. For instance: If you are using a 4 weight yarn on a fixed 5/8 gauge double rake loom your stitches are going to be too large and too loose. So, check your loom gauge by measuring from center of one peg to the center of the one next to it. Then you need to make sure you are using the correct weight of yarn for your particular loom. If your loom is adjustable, meaning there is a wedge or spacers to allow distance to be changed between your rakes you may need to bring them closer together for smaller and tighter stitches. Also, even If the rakes are adjustable you still need to know the gauge and correct weight of yarn to use for that gauge. Something else to remember. The rows after your cast on row aren't going to be as tight as the cast on in the video. Another issue that you could be having is tension. You could be wrapping too loose.
Hi, Kerry! Thank you for your question. The example I have shown in this tutorial is for Double knitting. With Double knitting you always work wrapping your yarn back and forth between the pegs as demonstrated. With that said, there are many double-knit stitches to choose from when double knitting. If you do choose a different double knit stitch such as the box stitch or stockinette stitch ( just a couple of examples ) you can still use the Double knit Fig 8 cast-on and then your first row you can start your other desired double knit stitch pattern or continue with the double knit Fig 8. Now, when you flat or single knit you are working from right to left or left to right depending on which is your dominant hand then turning at your last peg and knitting back to your first peg on only one straight loom ( or rake ) instead of two. You can also flat or single knit on a round or oblong loom as long as you don't connect your first and last pegs which would make a tube if you did connect them. Also, there is a Flat or single knit Fig 8 stitch to be worked as a flat or single panel. It can be confusing because I have demonstrated the Double knit Fig 8 stitch in this tutorial. I hope this clarifies your question. Here is a video that may also help by KB looms. ruclips.net/video/05o296IWmBY/видео.html *** Flat or Single knit may be used interchangeably in different tutorials.
Thank you for this video! I liked and subscribed to your channel. I tried the link to the Facebook looming for life group and got a message it is not available. Disappointing as I always had difficulty finding other loomers there and on RUclips. Thanks again!

No, the cast on is the only time you tighten the stitches. After the cast on, as I have shown in the tutorial, you continue wrapping your pattern as usual till your desired length and cast off.
Mine came from a company that no longer operates. However you can buy a set and maybe still the small red rake loom separately on the Knit UK website or their shop on Etsy. Yes, if you are using a #4 medium weight yarn you will need to use a loom with the appropriate gauge. For a #4 yarn a 1/2 gauge, 7/16 gauge or 3/8 gauge works best. A 3/8 gauge will give you a tighter stitch which you may fine more uncomfortable so a 1/2 or 7/16 you should find more suitable where the stitches won't be so tight. You can also look for yarn blends that would be more skin friendly.
You can buy them as a set or individually through Knit UK over seas www.knituk.com/ Or Sometimes you can find the long loom set on Amazon or Etsy.com Amazon link: USA www.amazon.com/Knitting-Crochet-Needles-Sweater-Blankets/dp/B07KR1LWVG/ref=mp_s_a_1_36?dchild=1&keywords=knitting+looms&qid=1609701687&sr=8-36
Hello new loom learner here, thanks for sharing ! I do have a question…. Why does the center of the loom get tighter then the ends, am I doing something’s wrong ?
As you move toward the center of the loom your stitches can naturally get a little tighter. Make sure you aren't wrapping your pegs too tight as you go further down your loom and if you can try and keep your loops halfway up your pegs and not right at the base I find that helps too. I have a video that explains why you shouldn't keep your loops at the base of the pegs. I'll see if I can find it and post it back here. Also, being a new loomer it takes practice to learn how to keep your wrapping pegs tension more even. It will come. Just keep practicing.
If you will go to this video tutorial and watch at marker 7:45 I talk about keeping your loops up away from the base of the pegs. ruclips.net/video/JRGN1KCNnOY/видео.html
Where can I find the same red loom you’re working on? I like it because the pegs are closer together and I can use one strand of regular yarn. Also I’m from Minnesota and I love your accent.
I got mine from the I Love Loom Company. They aren't in business anymore. You can also buy them from Knit UK online. They are based in Europe. I have seen them also sold by someone here in the U.S. on Etsy but I can't remember the seller. Let me look on Etsy for you and see what I can find and Amazon too. I'm born and raised from North Carolina. I don't realize sometimes how strong my accent is until I talk to people out of state. lol
Ok I found this seller of the same loom on Etsy here in the Us. www.etsy.com/listing/718173168/long-knitting-loom-set-of-4-with?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=knitting+looms+set&ref=sr_gallery-1-5&organic_search_click=1&frs=1&cns=1 This is the complete set of 4 sizes. I haven't found the red one listed separately yet. This is the link for Knit UK www.etsy.com/listing/880402318/knituk-long-knitting-loom-set-of-4-extra?ref=shop_home_active_14 They would be shipped from The United Kingdom.
I just checked. It's still on Facebook as a group, but looks to be invite only now by a friend that is already a member. If you have a friend that is a member on your personal Facebook page that can send you an invite. They have to be a friend on Facebook.

Welcome to loom knitting! After you do this cast on you don't have to do anything but continue to double knit your project as usual. This cast on gives a nice tidy, neat edge to match your bind off.

You could be wrapping too loose.
this video I been looling to improve my cast on thank you
You're very welcome
Thank you for that trick!!
You're very welcome!
So if you start with the figure 8 you have to make the figure 8 each row after? You can switch to going around with a flat stitch or knit stitch etc?

I’m a long time crocheter and new loom knitter. Loved the video! Where did you get your loom hook?
It came with a CinDwood loom I purchased. I went to the Dollar Store and got some pencil grips and glued them onto the handle.
@@LoomingCraftyFiberArts omg that’s so neat! Thanks for letting me know!! ☺️
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the tip!
You are most welcome!
So what happens if you already cast on and have loose ends?
You would need to use the crochet method with a crochet hook.
Thank you for sharing

This is the complete set of 4 sizes.
I haven't found the red one listed separately yet.
This is the link for Knit UK

They would be shipped from The United Kingdom.
Thank you so much for your quick response. I checked out those websites and I liked the looms they had. I’m excited to order some. Happy knitting!
