Fraser, the people on ITV Racing said Chester was a bit of a character who laughed and joked all the time, seems like Lester is a chip off the old block. Take care Lester, sorry to hear about your Dad. AP paid a nice tribute to him.
@@mjsgolf7004 As I was growing up he was the absolute goat of Table Tennis in Europe, he then went on to work in Racing , seemed a bit sudden as we had a bit of chat on twitter a few weeks ago, such a shame, RIP
I used to use a 8802 lovely putter, then found a Newport 2.5 studio stainless back in 2004...a rare left handed version it’s still in the bag! Just a great putter to have.
I met Chester at Pontins, Brixham in the mid 70’s giving and incredible display of his skills. I didn’t realise he was a local lad. Condolences to Lester.
I have to agree with you on the neck Dan, the 2.5 is obviously a beautiful putter but there’s just something so classic about the plumbing neck on the 2.0. Great video as always
Condolences to Lester and family. Very sad news. I have the Newport 2.5 in the bag I've always preferred bladed putters with this style of neck. Tried others but always go back to what feels comfortable. Seems to suit my eye better.
I got fitted at the end of 2019 for a Phantom X 8.5. Gave me my best numbers. Have since moved to a Del Mar as found I was missing putts left. Always had a soft spot for the Del Mar but felt Mallets were going to be more forgiving. A bit of testing and some foot spray showed that I was finding the centre of the putter face both length and height far more consistently with the Del Mar. If I were to change anything it would be to have a Pistolero Plus grip put on. Recent enquiries however seems to suggest in terms of availability they are like hens teeth!
I currently have the new 2.5+ which I love. But last night at golf galaxy I saw a used 2.5 in mint condition and rolled a bunch of putts. I think I actually prefer the 2.5 over my super select 2.5+. I almost bought it, but I just bought my 2.5+ a month ago after moving on from a squareback 2. For me the slant neck is the best option. Wish he offered the Newport 1.5+ as a standard model. Not enough slant necks from Scotty
That's exactly the putter that I have and I love it. My only complaint with the Scotty Cameron Special Select range is the Pistolini grip. Mine has 'shined' up over a single season and does not feel as nice as it did when new. Given the high price of replacement grips I am concerned that the same thing will happen again (although I do like the shape of the grip). Good video though, thanks guys!
I really clean mine quite religiously just because of this. It seems to help bring the tackiness back a bit -- good luck! And if you buy a "pulled" one to replace it with, beware when you put it on -- the end losses at lot of its hardness as a result and the shaft can easily pop right through when getting it set -- good luck!
I just bought a 2018 1.5 version, had it cut down to 32.5 inches.... to increase the SW I ordered two 25 gram plugs off of eBay, the arms on the little wrench aren’t long enough to get enough torque on it (have severe thumb arthritis). Been thinking of buying a tabletop vice and lock it in with a rubber adapter
Evening dan another good video I used to have a scotty but change it but have never been fitted for one I’m now thinking of changing mine and I will admit I do like the look of the scotty and I am thinking of getting fit this year
Currently gaming the 2018 Laguna -- specifically for the slant neck. Growing up using 8802 type putters in the 70s/80s, those necks feel the best for my stroke -- love the pistolini grips in this generation too -- put one on my Laguna -- give the 2.5 a try on the course Dan!
Had the cream 62 in the bag for 12yrs now Dan,love the steak lines and simplicity of it . Did try the Newport 2 but found it too "squatyy" compared to the 2.5,which I prefer more due to the neck.👍 #Lester🙏
I had a 2018 2.5 just updated to a 2020 2.5 both 34” and even though the 2020 has bigger weights in the head it still weighs less overall then the 2018 model not much only by a few grams
Scotty made the 2020 Heads Smaller and Thinner so that he had "Weight" that he could move into the "Replaceable" Weight Cartridges. The point is his "Blades" have become more "Mallet-like" in design function.
Adding my condolences to Lester but on the subject of the SC Newport 2.5, is this a face balanced putter? I have a relatively small arc and my tendency is to leave the face open....As a result I use face balanced putters thta seem to work best for me. Would this be an option?
Please pass on big hugs to Lester. Lost my dad last year and it hurts. Dan do you think there will be a new Laguna version in the next round of putters?
Is your reaction to the look of this putter in any way related to your dislike of offset? I've just had a custom fit for the SC phantom X mallets - I think (can't remember, so many different ones) I went with the 7. I'll tell ya, if money can fix putting I'll be on the US tour next year.... lol!
i am still using my old balde putter i had 15 years ago. i tried so many different ones but putting always been a strength of mine and if it aint broken... don't fix it. its never been the putters fault i missed haha
I mean in all honesty is there really that much of a change with these designs to warrant moving in to the next model for most handicap golfers or could they invest the money in to a putting lesson at a number of putting lessons and stick with the current model? Great review as always
My deepest condolences to Lester and the entire Barnes family. May your memories of Chester warm your hearts and heal your spirits. Another excellent review Dan. I'll be looking at the Scotty Cameron Newport range once I finish lessons. Not sure what their lefty selection is like though.
I’m interested in buying this particular model as I’m looking to upgrade, I currently using the ping zing 2 which is a great putter but I’m just needing something a little up to date and the 2.5 is looking the likely contender as it just eases class and looks of course😁
Hi Dan, obviously given Lester's family situation, this all seems a little superfluous, but I have a question - if a putter gives you better numbers but you don't like the look of it, why say no? I see this time again in review videos - Tester "top rail too thick, slightly too much offset, neck's a bit weird, finish gives too much glare...etc etc" Testee " I hear your OCD but lets look at your numbers...mmmm, yep much better, these clubs are factually much better for you" Tester "I don't care about lower scores, the club just doesn't feel right" AAAAARGH. DAN. FEEL VS REEL!!! Am I wrong?
It is sad you pay huge money for a Scotty putter and they put a garbage grip like that on it. I would have been less disappointed if it came with no grip at all
So sorry to hear of Lesters loss, please pass on my condolences , sad times!!

Most beatiful putter ever made Wilson 8802, a work of art.

Would adding loads of weight to the outside of the putter reduce feel?
I still game the Cameron Studio Stainless Newport 2.5 from 2004. No insert. The past is now the present.
How does this face feel compared to the 2018 model, firmer or softer ?
