As a guitar player, I don't hear this bass as overlapping a guitar. It has a different sound, and an actually very enjoyable one. I think you did a great job playing its strengths.

Well that just shows that your ear could use some training, because at 440, it's in the exact same frequency as your guitar. It has a different sound? Do you mean tone? Because all guitars have different tones from each other, or there would just be one guitar for everything.

It's a very short scale piccolo bass which is a really great idea and I'm surprised it's not a more popular concept. Thank you so much for this video! Very short scale basses have been around for a while but there aren't many videos of really good bassists playing them.

So glad I stopped and gave it a listen. Now I want one. I have been playing guitar and bass since my teens and now I'll be 70 in June. Everyone should realize that the same about of labor and time goes into these as it does standard scale instruments. When you state "It's only half of a bass, it should be half price" is thinking about it all wrong. We started in 2015 making these (winginstruments.com) and try our best to make it affordable (~718 EUR). This is the lowest we can do to make a small profit. Also, the point of these is to keep the same feel of the lower half of the bass... standard strings, standard spacing, standard pickups. We also offer to build an EHX Nano POG right into the instrument, and with the flick of a switch you're back down to standard range. Granted, it's not the same as using a standard scale bass but it's a believable tone. Most of our customers travel or practice where they can't have access to their main instrument, while others have created a different voice with them.

The configuration and tuning of the featured minibase is the exact same as a baritone guitar , which have been around for at least 50 years . I played around with 1 as a teenager , but found a standard guitar a better instrument ..I play many stringed instruments , although these days , I mostly play an 8 string mandolin and a guitar , tuned in open G or G minor , due to a table saw accident , on my chording hand . I'm getting better though , there are only a few guitar chords , that I can't reach , in standard tuning . I could have given up , could have sold all my instruments , instead I used alternate tunings and simpler instruments , as therapy . Its working , after 6 years , in playing standard guitar pretty well , playing expert with alternate tunings , for guitar and mandolin and I'm proficient on my other strings . If any of you are ever injured , don't give up your music , find a way .

I dig it, but agree it is a bit pricey. I play 5, 6 and 7 string basses, but also a 4 string piccolo bass. This would be perfect for the music I play and easy to adapt to. At $1,300, I can probably purchase something custom in the same size. A lot of fine luthiers out there.

An Amish guy playing an electric mini-bass. Now I’ve seen it all.

I think this is a really nice idea from Mayones, sounds really nice.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the availability of the strings.

I love my semi acoustic Ubass. I can sit on the couch in front of the tv with it in my lap and jam along to youtube clips and plugged in to an amp it has a surprisingly full bass sound. I was really excited for this up until I realized it's designed for guitar tuning. It's beautifully made with top shelf hardware and electronics, likely worth that price in euros, but the wrong octave for me. Pity.

doing something like this but with a built in octaver active circuit would be neat

i could never understand why they dont have more mini basses available. I think every bass player would love a mini bass to carry around with ease. I think every manufacturer should make a half bass and they should be available at a moderate price. Either bass or octave higher. 12 fret, light and easy for a noodle.

I think it would be really fun to get one of these but it’s out of my range $$
They seem really nice though, beautiful instruments

This is a pretty cool little bass but I think I prefer the look of the Wingbass. I’ll stick to my Kala solid body u-bass though as it’s in the proper bass register.

Fits in a suitcase, so I'm happy. My only complaint is that the white strips in the center made me double-take every time the camera hit them; it looks like a string is going under the pickup.
