The Addams were really the perfect family. The parents love each other; they take great interest in their kids, worrying about them when they do something "strange" (example of this was Pugsley wanting to play baseball - you see Morticia reacting to his glove in this video) but still supporting them. Open and inviting to strangers. Cared for the previous generation (Grandmama) and extended family (Fester, Itt), and the butler was even close to being family. Weirdly, one of the shows with most of these characteristics is Bob's Burgers.
John Astin is a treasure. At age 94 (in 2024) he has outlived his children from the Addams Family and all the other cast members, which must be a strange and maybe even sad sensation for him. He's also outlived several younger cast members from Operation: Petticoat and Night Court (including his "son" on that show) too.
When I saw how Morticia and Gomez were very devoted to each other, I decided to use this to measure all relationships. Even mine. Everybody, be a Morticia and a Gomez. They are so sophisticated. They are so classy.
I would love it if John Astin came out of retirement to play a professor at Nevermore in "Wednesday". He always brought such verve to his roles! Even if he's no longer physically up to much (I don't know the state of his health, but at 94 he's probably not spry) he could make a wheelchair trip into a chariot race! Indeed, playing up his age might make a good schtick for a new role, with people arguing as to whether he's 143 years old or only 134.
Gomez and Morticias relationship was one of deep, romantic love, the kind I try to achieve every day of our thirty six year marriage. It must still be working.
I always said that I wanted to live in a house, between the Addams family and the Munsters. John Astin comes from my hometown of Baltimore, which is where he retired to. For a while, he was a professor at Johns Hopkins University in the theater department, and his son Mackenzie would help out on occasion.
I worked with Mack on the movie “Safe Space” a couple years ago. He was great. When I told him how his dads series got me in trouble he call him and put me on the phone with him to tell about getting in trouble with what I did to my dads train set…
@@hifi6638 I met Sean at a convention in 2017, while I was heavily pregnant. We talked about our Moms and their depression, and then I asked, "Hey, is your Dad still teaching in the theater department at Johns Hopkins ? Is your brother still helping out with that ?" He said he was, and then said, "Wow ! You know a lot about my family." I told him that I read it on the Internet. I then told him that my favorite character of John's, was Buddy on Night Court. At the same time, he and I said, "But I'm feeling much better now." Made us laugh. John helped raise his kids well.
And yet child actors still get screwed over. Wil Weaton who played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek the Next Generation basically got nothing from the role because his parents handled his contract and his account until he turned 18. He was the only actor in the cast who didn't get any additional benefits from merchendise sales after the show ended so he technically doesn't even own the rights to his own likeness. I believe this was recently remodied when he reprised the role for an episode of Star Trek Picard as he would have had to agree to a new contract before appearing in the series.
One interesting bit... Ted Cassidy played both Lurch and Thing in the Addams Family, which we all know. But, watching the New Scooby-Doo Movies, "Wednesday is Missing", starting at 5:20 , you can see both Lurch and Thing are green, compared to the others, which seems to be a point to their being the same person in the cartoon, as well as in life.
It may be a convention attached to the Frankenstein monster, who was famous for being made up green, but so he would photograph pale as a corpse on black-and-white film. Even model kits of the Frankenstein monster had heads and hands that were luminous green back then. This detail has been a bit lost since colour TV.
Caroline Jones was very beautiful, even though she was always in Black & White. I read somewhere that she had to live with constant pain in her back. Don’t remember what the condition was, but I felt empathy for her. RIP Caroline Jones.
I believe you are thinking of the Munsters! Herman Munster was portrayed by Fred Gwynne, who also played Officer Francis Muldoon in the series "Car 54 Where Are You"
Part of the modification to the Coogan law occured after Dana Plato's mother was able to steal a large amount out of her protected account by being named on it The modification is called the "Plato Amendment"
"Monday's Child" was written in 1838! It was penned by A.E. Bray NOT Fred Penner! That is more than a BLOOPER because NO ONE in 1966 (or earlier) would be so ignorant
The idea that Thing was a right hand at the mail box, and at the same time, a left hand somewhere else, makes the mind race with the dirty joke possibilities... so many dirty minds about. ;-)
That stinks. You get a great job as an actor and you work your butt off. Then you can’t get the Money You made! Because your Mom and step dad was it? But they spend it all on Themselves. It great they put child actors money in a Trust fund now.

I Love The Addams Family to this day.
You're a true fan! Who is your favorite cast member?
Carolyn Jones as Morticia was so hot!
Carolyn Jones was simply beautiful. I had a major crush on her. The only reason I watched that show.
The Addams Family remains a timeless classic...
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great evening!☺
Wow... that just abruptly ends, huh?
yah they thought it was a Short. 😠🤬🤬

That’s wonderful! I met and fell in love with my “Rockstar Unicorn” in 1986. He still makes me laugh and smile every day!
What could be more perfect than the Addams Family home computer finding a new home in a Bat-Cave?

Sad but true. What other types of video would you like to see?
Vic Mizzy was the musical genius behind the music for Green Acres.
I thought Thing was ambidextrous, not realizing that he was intended to be a one-handed Thing.
am i crazy or does this video cut off when talking about Lisa Loring?
Over 9 minutes. At which point of time in this video is the "this scene wasn't edited" scene presented?
IKR! And the last part of the video gets cut off. Thumbs down. 👎
I'm guessing there was an issue with the upload or something and it cut off a portion of the video.
The scene where you can see a bit of the actor's clothes when he's playing Thing.
It wasn't "life" , it was the love they had for each other through family. Why are they afraid to mention family love.? THAT is what's creepy.
Like it a lot❗️
Glad to know that you're a fan of the show! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Gomez and Morticia were an actual loving couple on TV in a time when married couples were either asexual, moderately aromantic, or snipingly hostile.

was the ending a blooper?
Uhm, yeah, the video just stopped abruptly leaving us to wonder what Lisa Loring did ...
