This is such a great example of how well Con creates ensembles that are such perfect fits for songs has selected; the dynamic duo of Con and George, with the added clout and skills of Dusty, create such a phenomenal rendition of a classic...and those young ladies, wow. I seem to gravitate especially to the songs recorded in this 'Red Carpet Studio'. Thanks for all the great music HSCC!!
I agree, the mix is excellent. the overall presentation was tight as a drum. and I'm sorry but chick backup singers make me weak. glad to have found the HSCC
After reading your comment, I went back and listened again, and again, and again. You're right, the mixing engineer did a fantastic job. And while they all sounded great, I thought the guy on the Les Paul really rocked it. Phoenix, AZ.
I haven't heard this song for a long time, and I had to listen to the Doobies original after hearing this version, and I have to say that I think this version blows the original out of the water, in my opinion.
whoever did the engineering on this deserves a medal or something, its so dialed in, sounds just like the record! Well done everyone, definitely the best classic rock cover I've ever heard, fantastic job!!
There are some hella good cover bands on YT-to name a few not in any particular order: Lexington Lab Band, Leonid & Friends, Martin Miller, Foxes and Fossils, all excellently engineered and in many cases better than the originals in my opinion. Surfing cover bands is my latest obsession.
Friggin nailed it, man. Well done. Love the girls -- their voices really add a nice dimension to this song plus it doesn't hurt that they appear to be having a great time.
YES!! THANK YOU!! I'm the biggest Doobie Brothers music fan on the planet for 50 years. This was outstanding! I just sent this video to my friend Tyler the Doobie Brothers Road Manager and asked him to send this version over to Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons the two founders who are still leading the band. Be guaranteed they will love you guys too! God's blessings! -Larry G Loveland, Colorado USA
Good stuff, maybe a Merseyside Mash up will be in the pipeline....lots of choice, question is who will be glammed up to be Pete Burns RIP, or Holly Johnson in his pomp,or wacky hairdos like Flock of Seagulls, keep well and safe over there our friends from OZ,best wishes from the wirral..E
Little known fact about this recording by the Doobie Bros. It was widely known as the "best in-studio recording" for many years...The Curve on a spectrum analyzer known at the "China Grove Curve" was used for years for duplication. Bravo here...YOU NAILED IT !!!
Amazing Cover! The guitars are great, but the secret to this sounding so good is the rhythm section. The drummer and bass player are locked in so well and nail the groove perfectly. The bassist absolutely nails Tiran Porter's funky groove on this.
As a producer I simply love the Energy,Precision, Drive and Fun that simply radiates from your different performances. Along with the musical abundance, skills and talent you all have, that's what put you on my top 5 hit list. And this version of my #1 Doobie Brothers All time Favourites. Wow !!
The audience connection is so real, with all the band members enjoying and having a blast, everybody having good times. Thank you so much HSCC for your music.
This is just another example of the amazing versatility and talent of this band. Everything they touch turns to gold. I wish they'd cover J. Geils "Flamethrower".
Outstanding job! Growing up with the Doobie's and listening to them ALOT, they were definitely on the party list to listen to. You guys did an AWESOME cover of China Groove. Brought back a lot of memories from the 70's. 51 years later..... MAN, life is short and quick.
Seriously George's rhythm opening on this is the best ever, even better then the Doobie themselves. It's Epic. The timing on the riff has to be perfect to make the magic happen. Honestly every player in this is better then the original. Dusty's solo is a masterpiece.
The trick to playing this live is setting your delay pedal time to the correct song tempo, then hoping your drummer stays on it. If the repo drifts, that delay gets real sloppy.....
You did it again!! I close my eyes and it is July, 1989 and I am once again attending the Doobies' concert in Lake Placid, NY! Thank you for your hard work and the joy you all obviously take in these weekly works of art.
The mix and the performances are flawless. I thought it was a video for their studio recording, but at 02:53 you can hear the tone change when the Les Paul steps on the first pedal. It's so great to hear real music with real musicians.
Dusty was spot on!!! Voice had a good mix of Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons.. The band was outstanding and background vocals were great!!! Give us some more Doobies!!!!
HSCC has also done other Doobie brothers tracks: Listen to the music (Danny). Earlier this year Jesus is alright (Danny) What a fool believes (dusty) Ya bo me there (dusty and Danny) Keep forgetting (Sarah) unsure if this is doobies or Michael McDonald.
Big part of getting a cover like this right is the background singers, and these three nail it (yes, the bass player is singing backup with the girls). Really well-done on all fronts. Guitars and keys sound just fantastic. Great cover.
I love this song, and frankly wasn't expecting much. BUT I'M BLOWN AWAY! Great job of performing, "tweaking" slightly and doing honor to the original. THANK you.
1978 Enlisted Marine Club, MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, New Years party. I kicked it off by putting a quarter in jukebox and playing the Doobies. China Grove; one of my absolute favorites. I have been married to my date for over 42 years now. Your cover is awesome. Thank-You. Semper Fi.
This appeared again on my computer, and just had to play it again. Absolutely brilliant. Dont need to hear this again from the Doobies. Its here. Special mention for the guitarrists and sound technicians. This is so good. Thanks
Heyyy everyone, great performance. Great guitar work and keyboard work. Nice job by all the vocalists. I really like the drum work and sound in this performance. I wish we could have had more of a view of the drums. Awesome job by everyone, great song choice!! 👏😊
See that dude with his Bl/W baseball cap and his white beard and his guitar? That's the backbone of this song. And all the rest is falling into place by magic! This is great!
Good styled version but by no means did they nail this. Lead solo was off. Singing was different. Rhythm guitar and keyboards were great. Still I enjoyed this and I’m a huge Doobies fan.
@@beyondonethousand Hi, just so you know we are not trying to copy and recreate the original song, If that is what you are after, you will find the original artist would do this quite well. HSCC do our own renditions; sometimes making only subtle changes, sometimes complete reworks. These changes can include rhythm, tempo, key, style almost always some kind of arrangement rehash, quite often chord changes/substitution. Our intention is to pay respect to the song whilst doing it the HSCC way, everything we play is completely intentional.(well almost) I hope you continue to enjoy our weekly releases Cheers Dave #ObsessedWithSound
All Star lineup right here....lead by Dusty, outstanding guitars\vocals. Nice mix Dave and Con with the usual tasty arrangement change up. Nothing over the top just a solid groove. Well done guys !!
I watch this video all the time. So good. Just watched for the first time on my surround stereo turned up real loud. Even better. You guys are so good!!!
Everything about this rendition of a Classic Song, is Perfection Personified, everything. Hat's off to the Audio Engineer Dave Ross, you have created a Masterpiece. Everyone in the band, every part you played/sung was absolutely on-point & sounded significantly better than The Doobie Brothers, when I saw them live, in a Double Bill Concert with Foreigner (Foreigner were incredible though!) a few years back. Keep up the great work EVERYONE!
Woah! There ya go HSCC! Awesome! Love the guitars, background vocals, and, yes, the mix... great work on this one Dave. Love the spread of the guitars. Well done!
This is my favorite song in the whole wide world! You guys did it fantastic! Couldn't tell the singers apart and the bass playing was superb. To get this kind of review from me, a seasoned musician, takes a lot and you guys were great!
If you're a "seasoned musicion" and you thought this was great, you must be tone deaf. The only thing good about this band is the bass player, keyboardist & guitarists. The girls sang out of key most of time & the drummer was way off time & wasn't playing right notes. I dont even know what the "bongo" guy was doing. This is from a real professional session drummer!!!
Brilliant again - Dustys unreal voice, fantastic harmonies from the girls over a rocking band - I saw the Doobys do it live a couple of years ago and they were great - but you guys are right up there too.
Damn! These boys and girls got it goin' on! No doubt the best cover of any song I ever heard. Always been one of my favs by the Doobs - music for the ages.

backup singers make me weak. glad to have found the HSCC
Agreed, the audio balancing shines in every song. Hats off to consistency.
that's exactly what caught my attention. not to mention the smoking hot lady backup singers.
After reading your comment, I went back and listened again, and again, and again. You're right, the mixing engineer did a fantastic job. And while they all sounded great, I thought the guy on the Les Paul really rocked it.
Phoenix, AZ.
Best China Grove cover I ever heard. Lead and background vocals and especially those harmonies nailed. Guitar tone perfect!
For me it's a toss up between these guys, and Lexington Lab Band.
Totally agree with your comment 👍
Having seeing the Doobies many times I agree- very great cover!

It does not sound “just like the record”, the lead vocalist is lacking. He’s good on the guitar though!

very good but check out Foxes and Fossils. my favorite.
The RUclipss AND the FaceTubes!
Lexington Lab Band hands down best cover band
By far the BEST cover of China Grove by ANY group !

Rhythm guitarist looks like he just pulled up in a Peterbilt, grabbed his axe from under the seat and let it rip. Love it, great work guys!
What a super rendition of an iconic rock song from America's rock band, The Doobies! Great work, guys!
I’ve said this on other videos - but dusty Stephensen is mind blowing. His talent is off the charts.
