In this clip, Bilal gives his backstory into the industry by first talking about being signed to Interscope at 19 years old. While at Interscope Bilal had the opportunity to work with the incomparable Dr. Dre and went in-depth recounting the how much of a creative genius Dre is. Bilal spoke about Dr. Dre's meticulous approach to developing a song. According to Bilal, he listens to music incredibly loud and is able to capture sounds that are otherwise sonically obscure to the untrained ear.
Bilal also talked about his time as part of the creative collective, The Soulquarians, which included Common, Mos Def, Questlove, Erykah Badu, Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, James Poyser, D'Angelo, and J Dilla. He spoke further about working with J Dilla and how impactful his music is long after his passing. Bilal naturally had to speak about Erykah Badu who he says has eyes that look like you're staring in the universe. He called Badu enchanting and that she possesses an energy that helps bring out a person's true self.

Real talk though, I met Erykah in 2004 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta and I Swear To God To This Day I've Never Met A Woman Who Had Me With JUST Her Eyes!!!!! They Are HYPNOTIC!!!! I'm 6'2 and had to look down at her at first ( she only 5'0 ) but when we sat and were at eye to eye level...

What he's saying about Erykah Badu is true. I saw her in a NY club way before her 1st album came out & her eyes had that kind of energy (to draw you in). The good thing is that Erykah didn't have to sell her body wearing barely nothing like the mass majority of artists who are advised to do by the (slave) marketing dept. The interesting thing is when Erykah took off her clothes in the 'Window Seat' vid, only 2 baby daddies (& those in the know) knew she was thick like that as opposed to her audience. Sadly.the last 2 generations & a vast majority of males are only attracted to a**, t*ts & enhanced body parts from women that believe via all the adverts in the media that they need to do this to express their beauty when that quality is more internal than external. There's a reason why the music is dumbed down.
