I bought Erykah's first album in early '98 as a college student mainly because I was about to go see a Lilith Fair show in San Diego, and she was the only artist on the bill that I wasn't familiar with. I was instantly blown away by the album, and then her audience banter during that Lilith Fair really set her apart from the other artists. @@eemoogee160 Right, I caught that as well! I think he's trying to sound relatable and it's not necessary. I think he genuinely liked Erykah and did a good job interviewing her.

He seemed to lean into some of her beliefs which builds a genuine chemistry and understanding. This interview allowed it to feel natural and real.
I am not going to believe her first statement that the Universe doesn’t give you what you asked for . That it gives you what you are. If you are asking for a particular something you must believe that you already have it. So I believe that if a person is asking for whatever, that they believe that it should be theirs. If you don’t Ask for nothing, Then how in the world are you supposed to get what you want . But the. it’s. it up to the universe . It’s up to the person who has the power to speak it into existence. I try very hard to listen to what’s being said and find the significance of it .
Watching Erykah look at her younger self is like watching a Proud mother watching her daughter emulate her the best she could. She has evolved so much and still looks as young as the day she first blew up! 🖤🙌🏾
It seemed like they were both really having a good time talking with each other! The interviewer clearly loves her music and was super prepared and engaged and interested and Erykah was relaxed and generous. It’s a great interview all the way through, it even gets better as they form the energy together. I’ve loved Erykah since the beginning, it’s cool to hear her look back a little bit but to hear the way she thinks about herself as an artist for today at all times. She’s ready to meet the next moment, she’s ready to share everything new she’s learned, she doesn’t need to sit around with a shoebox full of old photos. She’s ready to go make some more art now. Loved this one.
I love the fact that if you watch all of her interviews. Her story her answers and thoughts are consistent. She is authentically herself in every space with every person.
I knew she was a doula & has delivered celebrity children but, I didn't know about her "end of life" support. That's such a beautiful way to live & give your most precious asset (⏰️) to the most vulnerable of souls❣️
You’re right. She hasn’t aged… She’s grown and morphed all while staying true to her vibe… I wont call her a legend… yet because by the creators blessing she’s still very much so alive and clearly well! I’m personally grateful that she never allowed the industry to distort and destroy her like so many others. Keep feeding the light love.✨🌻💪🏽
I remember when i was stupid af and i thought Badu was “deep” Thought she was connected to a higher consciousness or plane.. I was pretty upset when i realized the truth. She is put there to sell idiots a false concept in hopes they won’t go deeper and start digging past the surface. She is the equivalent to a televangelist begging his followers for money. Its fitting she sits across from a hollow zionist shill pushing propaganda for war manufacturers and reality manipulators.
She is the quintessential example of "allowing Divine purpose" to shine through. Our gifts cannot be realized unless we follow the pure soul that lies within.❤
White people are the only people in the world who'll give more credit to the white interviewer, than the black person he's interviewing! How is a person a "genius" for ASKING questions??!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You people just HAVE to put yourselves first and higher than black people no matter WHAT, huh? That's a SICKNESS, dude! For real!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
When I make a comment that so profoundly shows the impracticality of white supremacy and how it's dying as we speak, RUclips makes it so no one can see it. This is how I KNOW their demonic system is dying along with them, and they know it too. 👋🏾😅🤣👍🏾
She is so right when she said her music was ahead of its time.. this generation is so much more in touch with themselves and they are open to being free to express themselves in unique ways and that’s her!!..
"To be confident makes me Brave". Wonderful quote and it describes her to a "T". I love her music from the very beginning. She has evolved so beautifully.
She’s deep! This was an excellent interview. I really enjoyed the honest conversation and genuine mutual respect shared here! I was blown away by the AI analysis of Ms. Badu’s contributions! It’s disconcerting to think an algorithm is capable of recognizing, appreciating, and expressing spiritual concepts so clearly! And it was right on the money!
Precisely. Human writers bring way too much bias especially when describing Black artists. They make fun of depth in artists rather than inquiring more deeply.
@@mcclendonreport True, a computer doesn’t get bogged down with personal bias. I guess that’s part of what surprised me though. My limited understanding of AI is that it sources information found on the internet (created by humans). So how does it avoid repeating the bias of it’s sources? Amazing times we are living in!
@@Blackbird_Singing_in_the-Night A.I. has the advantage of looking at ALL sides. Humans struggle with that. To be sure, hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of African-Americans - and a smattering of others - knew that the eccentric Erykah Badu was a seer, a prophetess and an empath from day ONE.
Love Erykah Badu❤! Her music stands the test of time. She is an amazing artist and a wonderful spirit. Thank you for doing this interview Ari. No one could have done it better.
She is amazing. ❤ she was/is ahead of her time. She came out the year I graduated high school and I was in awe from the first time I heard her voice. I am a Texan and will forever be a fan.
Listen! That chatbot encompassed who she is brilliantly and defined the beginning of the black power movement post-civil rights. Hearing that definition gave me an immediate reflection of Afrocentricity during that time. The empowerment black Americans felt in that era was the consensus of our race taking back who we are as a people. We tapped into where our ancestors came from and defined it, creating black culture going into the next chapter of our history in these United States.
Solange , Erykah and are amongst a small group of black women who are avante garde..thank god they exist! ART is their religion. You can see that Ari absolutely adores her.
Let's face it ...Erykah Badu is on a whole nother level. This is one of the wisest most intellectual beings on this planet. This woman is a Triple Threat.... Beauty , Brains and Talent! You gotta Love her❤❤❤
This has to be the best interview (of an artist) that I have seen in my 55 years on this planet. The energy and respect between the two was palpable. Outstanding job Ari...👌🙌
I couldn't agree more. I'm loving the comments as well. So much love, peace and harmony even in the comments as the love and energies spread from the video into our lives and unitedly collectively connect us and vibrate through the universe rippling mirrors on mirror through one another.
Erykah is forreal! This is a respectful dope-woke conceptual interview. Being held outside was wise - it removed boundaries and released creative vibes of sharing, freedom of expression and mutually flowing energy between them. My attention was captivated immediately. Well done!
The 50 minutes just flew by in this beautiful synergy! I wish to be this engaging in conversation and to connect to more people in this way. They didn't use "ums" and they looked each other directly in the eyes the entire time! I enjoyed the energy and I also loved what Erykah observed about how her music was ahead of its time and how her generation didn't quite get it but now people in their 20s and 30s really appreciate her because of the spiritual wave that has elevated consciousness in this last decade. It's incredible! and she's incredibly blessed to have been given that task to express that before it was popular.
Been a while since I've seen a good interviewee and interviewer have a friendly, down to earth conversation😊. I love how she is able to see her past self and explain not only her growth as an artist, but as a human also. ❤
Randomly found this interview today and your sentiments are exactly how I feel. Erykah became so relaxed and Ari blew me away with his concise understanding of her body of work and life. I was deeply impressed as it truly was the best celebrity interview ever.
Ari, in my opinion your interview with Erykah Badu was a masterful, human, in-depth, meaningful and thoughtful educational exchange of real communication/conversation between two people. I sincerely appreciate your talent and gift of genuine curiosity, vulnerability and your willingness to learn about individual people. I appreciate the way that you research and use your creativity to ask extraordinary questions that help us get to get acquainted with the person that you’re talking to. Thank you
Ari, I'm much older than you and my musical tastes are not not in the same purview as yours or Badu. That said, I enjoyed watching your obvious enthusiasm and joy in this interview. I'm looking forward to exploring her music based on this conversation.
He's not "other level" . He is just a non "minority" guy who has happened upon respect for those who have had no voice. It's honorable what he is doing, but he's just having a conversation that certain Black folks have everyday. Ari is sort of "Christopher Columbian" in his approach; pretending to have discovered something that some folks knew for centuries.
😂 @BrilliantBeing true Ari's not breaking any new ground with these interviews but I dont see him trying to say that or using a "Christopher Columbus" approach either. I mean maybe Im wrong and missed something he may have did or said
@@mcclendonreport All due respect, I had a feeling there was going to be a comment like this. There was a post a while ago where Jacob Collier was complementing Yebba. Not black, but legitimately raised in the church with incredible pipes and range. Then followed the typical comments about “what about Mary J? Aretha? Etc..”. Is it sort of a novelty that Ari Melber interviews people like Erykah Badu? I guess. I’m pretty sure Erykah Badu would not sit for an hour with this guy if she didn’t think he was legit. Whether or not this is “conversation black folks have every day”, it’s really good content and is arguably “other level“ that a guy with his platform is having conversations with these artists who many of his watchers may not be familiar with.
As a child born year 2000, her music has resonated with my soul the second I put ears to it. I understand it all, thank you for continuing to contribute to the upleveling of consciousness on this planet
This woman is so smart and so aligned with the Universe there's no comparison. Ari, you're a gem in the rough. The way you talk to our people, and the respect you give our culture is indeed in its own telling of who you really are. Thanks for this interview. Ms Erykah and you both bring such love and peace to the world.
don't agree with her new age statement at the very beginning of this interview. She said quote " the universe doesn't give you what you ask for the universe will give you what you are". Back in the day, there were more kind caring genuine people in the olden days than now and they got nothing but slavery, hardship and abuse. Nowadays our people are more selfish, self-centered, self haters and ungodly people but we got more riches and blessings then ever before. So our universe must be evil to award evil people with riches and make good genuine people struggle.
Loved this interview for so many reasons! Loved that she acknowledged Georgia Anne Muldrow and discussed the things I already observed from the cover art of New Amerykah… Erykah opened my mind creatively, which helped me craft how I approached music, art, and fashion. She’s truly free! Giving so many great peer artist their flowers! I love her for being authentic to herself and her culture! She is beauty!
BARZ!!!! This was such a great sit down she is one of my favorite artist and I loved when she said you become who you are because it is already implanted in you and it’s up to us to bring that out of ourselves; I loved that statement I am paraphrasing of course but I knew what she was saying. Many blessings to you both.❤
As one of Erykah's absolute number one fans since day one...I found this interview to be absolutely amazing and mesmerizing from beginning to end. Love everything about the Queen and Ari, you did such a fantastic job!!!!!! Such authenticity exuding from this interview.
36 years ago. At age 15, I heard Erykahs voice for the first time. From that moment, she has been a guiding force in who I am. I'm glad that even now I still feel in alignment with her.
👏🏾👏🏾Outstanding👏🏾👏🏾 I really didn’t know much about her. I’m totally a fan now! I love her vibe, her message(s), and she’s beautiful. Apparently inside and out! Thanks for this one, Ari!
I felt honored to raise Erykah Badu onto my seat when I saw her perform with The Roots around 2008 to 2010 I forget which year. She walked up the aisle singing, then she walked back down the aisle and took my hand while singing as she started to walk onto my seat so the rest of the crowd could see her. Security came over when she went onto the seat thinking she was gonna fall but I helped her down.
I watched this interview last night and was so mesmerized I couldn't really make much of a comment. It was absolutely brilliant, by both Miss Badu and Ari, Thanks again. MAD RESPECT FROM EAST LONG BEACH 💯 🙏

“The universe doesnt give you what you ask for, the universe gives you what you are” sits in my soul
A WORD!
Yes, thank you for pulling that out and putting space around it
That's cool... but doesn't that mean you just watched the first 3 seconds of the 50 minute video? Lol
This hit hard. I’m keeping this in mind on what she said right there.
I love the fact that if you watch all of her interviews. Her story her answers and thoughts are consistent. She is authentically herself in every space with every person.
So true
I knew she was a doula & has delivered celebrity children but, I didn't know about her "end of life" support. That's such a beautiful way to live & give your most precious asset (⏰️) to the most vulnerable of souls❣️
She hasn’t aged a minute. What a great interview with a great artist
agreed...lil' skinny tho...probably just needs to eat more edibles 😁
You’re right. She hasn’t aged… She’s grown and morphed all while staying true to her vibe… I wont call her a legend… yet because by the creators blessing she’s still very much so alive and clearly well! I’m personally grateful that she never allowed the industry to distort and destroy her like so many others. Keep feeding the light love.✨🌻💪🏽
❤ ❤❤
certain people dont crack
I remember when i was stupid af and i thought Badu was “deep” Thought she was connected to a higher consciousness or plane.. I was pretty upset when i realized the truth. She is put there to sell idiots a false concept in hopes they won’t go deeper and start digging past the surface. She is the equivalent to a televangelist begging his followers for money.
Its fitting she sits across from a hollow zionist shill pushing propaganda for war manufacturers and reality manipulators.
She is the quintessential example of "allowing Divine purpose" to shine through. Our gifts cannot be realized unless we follow the pure soul that lies within.❤
Great interview!!! Loved it. Didn't seem forced and you can tell he's actually a fan of hers and a fan of the culture. An asset to hip hop. 💯
This interview took me on a journey. Ari is a genius and a treasure. Ericka is .... Wow. She makes you want to be your authentic you.
For real!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Erykah…as authentic as the spelling of her stage name.
All spelling is authentic to the person using it.
Erykah
When I make a comment that so profoundly shows the impracticality of white supremacy and how it's dying as we speak, RUclips makes it so no one can see it. This is how I KNOW their demonic system is dying along with them, and they know it too. 👋🏾😅🤣👍🏾
She’s just radiant. Transfixing. I needed to hear this conversation at this point in my life, and I’m happy that I clicked on this.
How do you mean ,” In this stage of your life”?
Same ❤
She is the energy of this moment. Completely.
I needed it too.
She is so right when she said her music was ahead of its time.. this generation is so much more in touch with themselves and they are open to being free to express themselves in unique ways and that’s her!!..
She gets me... I feel her... Energy in Harmony.... 🧘🏿
Yesssssssss, I love that. "ENGERY in Harmony" WOW!
Definitely pisces energy.
she gets me.... I feel her....
I llllove this! 🤗
She is highly intelligent
Many artist are easily duplicated! Not Ms. Badu!! Her music is TIMELESS and her aura is everything ❤
She’s really inspirational as a woman, I hope I can meet her in this lifetime.
"To be confident makes me Brave". Wonderful quote and it describes her to a "T". I love her music from the very beginning. She has evolved so beautifully.
Ari Melber...this was an amazing conversation. EXCEPTIONAL job.
She’s deep! This was an excellent interview. I really enjoyed the honest conversation and genuine mutual respect shared here!
I was blown away by the AI
analysis of Ms.
I completely agree
@@mcclendonreport Well, I did. She's always impressed me with her wit, wisdom and compassion.
Love Erykah Badu❤! Her music stands the test of time. She is an amazing artist and a wonderful spirit. Thank you for doing this interview Ari. No one could have done it better.
Her energy is based purely on love, peace, and freedom. It’s intoxicating.
@LeoKing: Well said !! Badu is a true poet... She's one of my favorite Hip hop artists ❤... Just love her voice....
nice idea
Energy is lights and electric that God gave wisdom unto man to create. I hear God saying she a ignorant fool.
Extremely Intoxicating
nope. She's a psychopathic narcissist - look it up before you clap back.
I'm 54 and I overstood it all, my 3 children now, ages 32-25, overstand it all now. Before her time yet within her time indeed💕
The wisdom in her is phenomenal
She is amazing. ❤ she was/is ahead of her time. She came out the year I graduated high school and I was in awe from the first time I heard her voice. I am a Texan and will forever be a fan.
This woman is true spirit and energy,, I’m uplifted
This brought me so much joy on so many levels. I feel a glow radiating from the seat of my soul. ❤️
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Appreciate the dialogue. 💚💛🧡
Solange , Erykah and are amongst a small group of black women who are avante garde..thank god they exist! ART is their religion. You can see that Ari absolutely adores her.
He's crushing and so am I-❤Badu
What a nice, genuine interview. It makes all the difference in the world when the interviewer is sincerely interested in the guest. Great job, Ari.
Two, highly intellectual folk. I respect them both for their authenticity. Thank you, Badu & Ari!
Let's face it ...Erykah Badu is on a whole nother level. This is one of the wisest most intellectual beings on this planet. This woman is a Triple Threat.... Beauty , Brains and Talent! You gotta Love her❤❤❤
I'm trying to get there
Learn majik
I had to listen to the interview and not watch....you can't look into her eyes...issa trap lol😂
Msn she said nothing wise just how sges feels lol
She opens and extends my mind to be able to accept old and new concepts. Thank you.👩🏽🎨🎭🌹
I have found a new love and respect for Erykah Badu. Can never get enough of her wisdom. Thank you Ari for hosting this incredible interview. ❤❤
This interview has LITERALLY changed my course. Thank you both. Truly.
I feel the same way
Her music is for all the people. The definition of timeless.
Totally agree. I cried at the end.
@@e.p.8987 Bless.. lol lol lol
Bless your heart ❤️
Erykah is forreal! This is a respectful dope-woke conceptual interview. Being held outside was wise - it removed boundaries and released creative vibes of sharing, freedom of expression and mutually flowing energy between them. My attention was captivated immediately. Well done!
so vote the slave party who did jim crowwe who runs every ghetto?
Watched the ENTIRE interview... LOVED IT!!! Ari is the man for this one
That is one of the most riveting interviews I've seen in a long time. Badu is exceptional 💟
Been rocking with Badu since Baduism!❤🎉 The Sister is Conscious, Beautiful, and Real.
Love Erykah
Her medium is energy . It's the core of who she is , pass the positive vibe . She's amazing .
She speaks to the soul with so much elegance an grace an I love it her aura is so calming
This has to be by far most on point interview I have ever seen by any celebrity ever. BOTH of them were amazing.
Thank you
Ditto...Agreed!
This was 4 months ago, and im just now seeing this. Erykah is everything. I love everything about her. So Beautiful inside and out. Asé Asé Asé
Ari, I'm much older than you and my musical tastes are not not in the same purview as yours or Badu. That said, I enjoyed watching your obvious enthusiasm and joy in this interview. I'm looking forward to exploring her music based on this conversation.
Her music is one of a kind and very deep.
You really been missing out!
I was raised loving the beauty of all genres of music, if they have a good voice, message then I love it🥰
Phenomenal interview with one of the most thoughtful , talented, and brilliant artists ever! Thank you for blessing us with this powerful piece.
Absolutely
You’re an other level dude, Ari. Kudos on these interviews 🔥🔥🔥
I mean maybe Im wrong and missed something he may have did or said
@@corrinaamato8805 Ari is a Hip hop fan who knows the lyrics and their meaning.
@@mvm3016 Well said.
Best interview I’ve seen in a while! A reporter did his homework and you could tell that he loves hip hop and bam a flawless conversation awesome!!
Ari’s interview questions and the tone was so genuine, and his knowledge of the topics… Erykah is pure LIGHT!
As a child born year 2000, her music has resonated with my soul the second I put ears to it. I understand it all, thank you for continuing to contribute to the upleveling of consciousness on this planet
Was she the artist that did the naked video ? That video was incredible ❤ don’t make them like that anymore
Same!!!
That was brilliant. She is pure enlightenment. Your questions were in sync with her greatness. Beautiful being, inside and out.
Her knowledge and style is immense. She's such a humble soul. Just not her personality but her spirit does wonders for us ❤
This is an incredible conversation.
Erykah gives the most resolute answers. Not just with her words but eyes as well.
Incredible. 🤘🏼
She ILL speaking facts per usual ❤❤❤
Like she stood on your chair?
Lucky!
❤
Those were the days! She come up with ensents burning

To me Ericka is God sent. She has recognized her assignment and consistently pursuing her duty every day successfully. 💯
Thank you EB ✊❤👸👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I watched this interview last night and was so mesmerized I couldn't really make much of a comment. It was absolutely brilliant, by both Miss Badu and Ari, Thanks again. MAD RESPECT FROM EAST LONG BEACH 💯 🙏
This was such an inspiring interview. Just beautiful. The way the chemistry and the energy flowed back and forth in itself was art in its purest form. Thanks for taking the time Ari... the time to nurture this energy that seems so lost today. You have greatly affected my psyche and my soul by doing so. I will continue writing again.
Yes, you can tell he's a true fan of her and the culture!
Erykah has always been woke…we were just catching up to her. 🙏🏿❤️
The word woke is not the proper term she is spiritually enlighten she is conscious
@@ericbeaton1219 Yep…that’s what I mean. Woke= Conscious, aware, awakened, expanded, cosmic knowledge etc.
She doesn't look exited lol..
@@chocobeachboy1that's not what woke ideology means...
@@klausresetter5259 I think it does. Conservatives co-opted the phrase from Black people. Now it doesn't make any sense.
She's wise and she's mesmerizing, in the best possible way. Grabs your attention and there are no empty words.
Awesome interview!🙌 I could just see how she started to relax, unfold and blossom into the conversation from being slightly guarded initially. Ari really soothed and charmed her into her real self💫👏👏 Great job🎉
Ari killed it! What a great energy between these two! That energy created great wisdom ❤
Why did I keep smiling through this entire interview? Loved it ❤
Ari, you impressed me once again with this Erika interview❤
Well Done Ari - I don't watch anything for an hour - this was Awesome !!!!!!!❤
She does great interviews 👏🏿 loved her since day one and always been a fan...ALWAYS!!!!
There was a point when this transformed from just an interview to a great conversation between 2 friends and I loved every minute of it
I agree
She's so fly, so free, so ethereal, so tapped in. An endless well of wisdom. An inspiration. A vibe. I looovvveee me some Erykah. EXCELLENT interview.
This was the best interview i have ever watched. Hands down. It kept me engaged. I felt like i was watching 2 friends have a conversation ❤
Wow.. the AI perception of Erykah was on point so much that I was tearing up.. and then she said it sounded like what her ancestors would say 🙏🏽💗 that is the ancestors coming through.. they find a way🤗
I was in tears too, mostly because of the beauty of their harmony!
What a fantastic duet!
