    It is so important to have some positive, repeatable thought in your head - a mantra if you will - as part of your shot routine. Not only does it get your mind into the same comfort zone as your body preshot, it prevents negativity and doubt from creeping in. A lot of people try to "zone out" or "empty their mind" but that requires guru level consciousness. For us mortals the brain will always be struggling with itself, and a positive place of mind is easy to get to for the crucial moment of release, even if hard to maintain . I think "center chain POW!" but it doesn't really matter what it is, just so long as you do it every single time, in practice and round, long or short putt.

    I like a disc in my off hand even during a round. Gives me a balanced feel.

      Me too, i think a lot of people do. I think what he's trying to say is to practice like you play. So if you put with a disc in the offhand in games, practice with a disc in your offhand too.

      Tadz Palys A lot of people, no. A super slim portion of rec disc golfers, perhaps. Any top pro men or women, no.

      Adam Barnett Adam, I am sorry to tell you, but Wysocki and Koling do not putt every time with another disc in the opposite hand. In fact, they do it only for the simplest putts. As to your rude remarks, you are a dipshit.

    I think another important part of practice putting is pace.
    Some people say you should always step away from the practice lie and reset yourself to treat each putt like it’s own. This is because that’s how you putt in a round.
    Others see a benefit from staying in one position and firing off as many putts as you can in a nice rhythm. No reset. Just get in a groove.
    I think these are both important ways to practice and they have separate benefits. Putting in a nice groove/rhythm one after the other helps build confidence but it’s also great when building you foundation. It helps you get tons of confident reps and build muscle memory.
    If you are trying to improve performance in rounds or tournaments, practicing your whole putting routine for each putt is very helpful. You are building a whole different type of mental and muscle memory.
    Practicing fast AND slow are important in my opinion.

    Most of these are great tips. However, I putt while holding a couple putters, because I practice putt holding a couple putters. Either way works as long as you're sticking to your practice routine.

    I love putting! I putt 30 minutes, play a round and try to replicate the routine I learned. Between two rounds I would putt for another 15 minutes. Yesterday I had some nice putts even outside my range, because I trusted my motion which is the same. Just gave a little more push from my legs, but the arm was about the same. Felt good.
    Also I find if I make some and miss some be happy about the ones that were good and the missed putts were a result of not following my routine, rushing it... I apply the tipp of Philo: say/think apple pie as you throw. Helped me alot with my timing

      I do not either You two. I use it to guide my hand to try and keep the one part the up and down out of the equation however wind is the only thing I can't control and in Pierre, South Dakota wind is plenty. I am getting back into the sport this year and last year but I have found a new putt one that works better than my old putt of the forward basketball put.

    • @samimannila5560
      @samimannila5560 7 лет назад +2

      That is leave others on the floor IF you don't have them in your hand during round. Point is to practice puts just the way you would play them during rounds. So if you tend to keep putter in off hand, then do it also in practice.

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 7 лет назад

      sami mannila I agree, I have an odd putt I try to eliminate the up and down a putter can be when putting as side to side is already taken care of.

    Avery really bugs me during commentary because he just is so bland, no disrespect. Him doing videos like this though, he is perfect for. Straight to the point and doesn't go to far to get in your mind during an important putt if you recently watched this. Just hit the basics. Focus and don't try to drill all 50 footers while you're practicing then miss the 27 foot birdie you worked hard for. Good stuff.
