In a recent interview, Roger mentioned about meeting up with John again, and Brian has started up the 'Deaky' nickname thing again, so I believe they are coming back together. I doubt that he will come out of retirement though, John wants to stay away from the fame now.

The majority of it came from interviews (the more recent ones) Brian is referring to John as 'Deaky' or 'Deaks' in quite a few of them as well. In the Queen in 3D book, it does briefly mention present John, and discusses about their relationships at that time. Throughout all of Queen In 3D Brian is constantly referring to John as 'Deaky' as well.

Ian Ray he was always very shy and didn't like being in the limelight, and so he probably wanted to go back to a quiet life. It's a very selfish thing to say that he should be doing what we the fans want over his own wishes. I think we should respect his choices.
Well someone he loved dearly died and I'd imagine it was quite traumatic. Not to mention, as amazing as Brian and Roger are, what made Queen, Queen was the four of them, as John says. He's also earned the right to stop.
For John, the Queen meant a lot of power and when Freddie died for all it was like losing a family member and John, after his death, fell into depression. He probably found that even though he had tried to get used to concerts for Freddie in the songs he knew so well you could not get used to it. And because he is very loyal, he decided that without Freddie it would not be it, and so he left, and for only six years in strong depression, something must have been terrible.

Freddie said in a 1984 interview that Roger and John were doing a publicity tour together, this is probably from that.
