    I have been using a Liquivac suction hand pump with a small tank built into it.
    Insert tube into oil filler opening, hand pump about eight times, open the valve, and all
    the oil gets sucked out into the built in tank. Very fast, and never spill a drop.
    Lowe’s sells them. Last forever $32.00. Just my two cents, hope it helps!

    • @tonytraverso468
      @tonytraverso468 8 лет назад +8

      Yes, good advice. I was only commenting on the statement that the engine heat makes the oil MORE viscous. The heat makes the oil LESS viscous. The moral of the story: just say that the engine heat makes the oil easier to drain!

    • @fmueller1
      @fmueller1 6 лет назад +7

      In case anybody still doesn't get it, viscous means having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid. Heating up the engine makes the oil less viscous, which means it will run out faster.

    • @depth386
      @depth386 5 лет назад +5

      @@edwuncleriii2286 For any maintenance on a lawn mower it is recommended to disconnect the ignition plug or otherwise prevent the possibility of the engine starting up prior to starting any work. This step would allow any work underneath. In my experience I often have to remove built up wet grass that builds up around the skirt as part of my lawn really likes to hold moisture unless it's been a total drought for a while. I should probably add some dirt to level it out and re-seed.

      To keep your mower running strong, do change the air filter, oil, and spark plug. I do all this every Spring on my Honda. As long as you are just using this at home and not commercial use, you'll only need to change these three things out once a year. Another thing, use non ethanol fuel. Burns hotter, cleaner, and you'll get more power out of it as opposed to ethanol blended gas. Hope this helps.

      +iScaper1 I've been recently reading that people have been using full synthetic for a long time on their mowers and some have gained 5000 hours and still run strong! I was too very leery about using fully synthetic so I contacted my local lawn mower dealer who is considered one of the best and widely used by pros in the Chicago area and they said they only use and recommend fully synthetic and buy it in bulk to use on mowers they repair/tune up. They said two very good brands are Pennzoil and Mobil 1. I'm going to try Mobil 1 on my Honda and if I find that it doesn't run the way I like it, I'm going to go to Pennzoil conventional which is my favorite conventional oil.

    I had two Wal-Mart mowers both die after two years. I had to ask myself why. For some reason I didn't think to change the oil. It seems like common sense to me now. Buying mowers at Wal-Mart isn't the best idea in the first place but they would've lasted if I hadn't used them with old shitty oil.

    Tipping the mower on its side seems like a really bad idea, considering that fuel and oil can spill, plus it would have to be completely inverted to drain all the oil from the dipstick tube using gravity.

    • @robertknight4672
      @robertknight4672 4 года назад

      Ideally the you should do this on the fuel level is fairly low. I haven't seen a Honda gas cap leak. If you just lay a Ziploc bag cross filler neck and screw the gas cap on above that that should help keep gas from coming out. Also I always disconnect a spark plug boot from the spark plug to prevent any accidental startups when I tip the mower over.

    • @arthurserino2254
      @arthurserino2254 4 года назад

      @@robertknight4672 The safety bail will prevent accidental startup, but you still won't drain the oil completely, and you still made a mess.

  • @kendrickminchew1855

    Best thing to do to prevent a mess is to get a vacuum pump that sucks the oil out of the dipstick into the canister I got one for $40 on Amazon
