Hi Linda! I have been watching your channel for years. You are awesome! I swear every time I look up something homesteading/food related a video of your pops up! Thank you for your videos and for sharing your life with us all. I really appreciate how you test things out at the end of the video too. So often folks show how something is done then you have no idea how it really works out in the end. I love the rehydration of veggies, or how you test the items you can or cook. It's really helpful. Thanks again!
After watching this video, my daughter and I both started saving the discarded pulp after staring our tomatoes. We do run the pulp through a 2nd time to get the last bit of juice. Now we put the pulp on the dehydrator screen then grind it into powder. Nothing wasted and still plenty of flavor!
for dehydrating the veggies I took fresh rutabagas, turnips, carrots and parsnips and grated them up... added them to some dehydrated grated potatoes that I got at costco and just mix them all together and add a handful or two to any soup I'm making.... I'm only cooking for two so it doesn't take much. I really don't have a recipe.. I cook simply by adding a bit of this and a bit of that...
I'm looking forward to dehydrating more foods, I did onions and garlic a few years ago and tomatoes last summer but I hadn't thought of grinding the tomatoes into powder. Once again thank you Miss Linda!!
your channel is so great and super informative. I just subscribe because I always find myself coming back to your videos for tips and advice on how to do all these things especially canning.
My father gave me a cheap Mr. Coffee dehydrator when he moved across the country. I dug it out recently, and realized the dehydrator didn't come with the mesh inserts, unfortunately. Since I had to re-screen a couple of my storm windows I bought some black aluminum screening, and ended up with just enough to make my own inserts. Just used scissors to cut it. I ran it all week long dehydrating frozen vegetables to free up freezer space and have more food that isn't dependent on electricity.
Enjoyed the video. I just finished dehydrated 14 containers of tomatoes like the ones you have on your counter, found them organic and on sale. I discovered that quartering them and placing them skin side down keeps them from sticking so badly. I squirted the most of the seeds into a jar (a huge amount) to dry later. The carrots when into the Vidalia chopper along with extra celery and squash. At least they won’t rot now. TY
Many thanks Linda - had a food dehydrator years ago...what a FOOL i gave it away! Anyway got one in the mail today - ordered it online from wal-mart canada and and now dehydrating green onions. Watched that video too :-) Really like how your videos are presented. Gotta get comfortable with the pressure canner though :S
Great vid! When you started naming things you could do with the carrots all I could think of was broccoli cheese soup with those shredded carrots in it :) hmm now I want some!
Thank you for your demonstrations. I enjoy the thorough information and the fact that your kitchen is clean as well as your cooking. You have been inspirational to my new hobby in dehydrating and canning, just in case the zombies attack. Ha! No really.
This video was a great help, Linda! I've canned and dehydrated foods for many years, but never to the extent that you do. I just put 3 trays of shredded carrots I needed to use up, and a #10 can of diced carrots (4 trays) in the dehydrator. Can't wait to see how they come out. Now, off to order more dehydrator trays! Thanks!
@JoeandZachSurvival Sorry I was going to go over that and I noticed my battery was on the way out. I have quite a bit of chunks myself, but these are perfect even for salad I will be doing another 10 or 20 pounds of these. And I store them in mylar bags as well. Linda:)
I was given a Food dehydrator by a friend And when I saw yours I thought.. OK. Goody.. not like those other ones I have seen.. But, yours is still a bit different.. As mine does not have a temp guide on it.. I just let the stuff sit in there for 12 hours.. and I check it.. and if it needs to stay in longer I leave it in a bit longer.. Love that you are showing more that what I have been watching..
What happens when you dehydrate glyphosate, I bet Linda knows better now in 2020. These are great videos, I'm totally buying a dehydrator ASAP during this Plandemic, who else is here?
I have arthritis in my hands. I blanch whole carrots after a peel. Cooking half way. Then I run cold water on them to keep them from cooking more. I cut them afterwards. Easier on my hand. I only like raw shredded dehydrated carrots for salads. Great video!!
Wish we could find tomatoes for .37cents a lb here. Even when they are in season they run $1.99/lb. Love your videos. Just getting started with dehydrating and jar meals. Thanks for your great info.
Forage.!! There's tons of wild and feral food growing in the woods and fields.. It's organic, super high in nutrition and pesticide free.. And renewable without you ever having to plant it..
Camp Cossack Don't know where you are but I believe you.. I have lived in Pennsylvania and Michigan so I've dealt with cold weather.. That's why I now live in Kentucky..
I have an emulsifier and you just cut tomato in half and put them in it. And it works great, no seeds or skin left at all, all of it goes into the sauce.
Hello Linda, love you videos I my self do I lot of canning been watching you dehydrate something am gonna get into, plus been watching about thrive products an I agree have some different options so once I get back to work gonna get intouch with if okay...thanks for sharing have a wonderful weekend
We juice carrots everyday and dehydrate the pulp and then grind that up into powder. W do not have a dehydrator but dry it in the oven and outside between window screens. So good in soups and stews.
Girl your the Best I'm about to dehydrate my carrots had not thought about shredding them ... I've bought #10 cans of diced tomatoes and peaches ... I won't to retire early and food budgeting is a way to conserve with freezing then canning and dehydrating ... Have you thought of a making a cookbook?
i am happy i saw this video I have been watching your videos of freeze dry meals. I just got me another dehydrator my first got damage, and I have been a little scare of use it. but your video make me confident about start using it.
I like your show your voice and personality is just like my aunt Sally she was and still is a great women but its calming lol like spending the summer at grandma i picked 100pounfs of blackberry's one summer its was hell but worth it
Carrots really shrink down well. I dehydrated 2lbs of crinkle cut frozen carrots, and they ended up fitting in half of a quart size ziploc bag. I'll get another couple bags they go on sale and get enough done to fill a quart mason jar.
@jdolani If you are going to spend the money,I would buy an Excalibur. You can get them cheaper in you get a refurbished one. Mine is a Nesco with the max of trays which for this unit is 11. I hope this helps. Linda :)
A meat slicer is a much more efficient tool for slicing large quantities of tomatoes. A bit more to clean up in the end but way faster than a mandolin with a dulling blade.
hey Linda, just wanna start off by saying I enjoy all of your videos and I have recently purchased a dehydrator mainly for garlic and onion powder.... just waiting for some to go on sale lol. But I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how you care/raise your chickens! I'm trying to talk my husband into letting me get some chickens and I'd love some insider hints! Thanks again!
Linda. Have u ever dehydrated beets? And rehydrated them..I need to know..we have a row in garden...and I am wanting to dehydrate them...if they rehydrate well ty
Linda you are one of the main channels I watch faithfully. Will you tell me what kind of seal bags do you use ? where to get them ? I have looked on Amazon found several but read a lot of bad reviews. Money is tight here and can not afford to buy bags that are not good need help here please.
Try a light sprinkle of pink salt first and then you can put them in jars with olive oil for about six months ..A taste to die for I've been doing it for year's everyone love's them . Then you can add to almost anything you cook
Love watching your videos on dehydrating! Thanks for sharing. I have a question for you. Last year before I got my dehydrator I froze some tomatoes and green peppers. Could I dehydrate them now or do you think after freezing they wouldn’t turn out?
I learned from that and was most interested to see you with a dehydrator. I am thinking but what type? Yours is bigger than the little round one, not the big rectangular (trying not to say...) but why did you choose this? I was looking at you tube about it and I saw you and thought oh now, I"laugh out loud get the truth. I will see what she do says and does. So I know you will be pleased I really do pay attention to the SHTF types and living very rurally need those storing tips alright.
I was gifted a #10 can of artichoke hearts. Thought I could dehydrate them but didn’t see any reference on here and wondered why. Should I not ? If you could chime in your thoughts I could really use your advice
I am very new to dehydrating. So when you want to use these ingredients in cooking you just re-hydrate in water then add to the cooking? How long does it all keep for in the pantry?
Help! I dehydrated a bunch of cilantro...followed instructions...looked beautiful, nice and dry. Sealed it in a glass canning jar with my food saver...great seal. Open it the jar a week later and the cilantro was light and fluffy...What happened?
I have not re-hydrated my raw carrots, or partial cooked carrots yet. Which tastes better re-hydrated cook chopped raw dehydrated or no precooked raw dehydrated carrots?
I have a question. After watching several of your videos, I do not see anything about once you open a jar that has been "sealed" from pineapple or any other fruit or veggie and only use part of the jar, do you or can you reseal or do you have to use it all? And thanks for everything - I have learned so much from you. I started a garden last year, and canning only last year and have done some dehydrating too, so very new at this. Just retiring from working many years and I wish I would have started this long ago. thank you and God bless you.
Hi i think I have watched all your dehydrating videos, I am thinking of investing in a dehydrator. Could your please tell me what brand of food processor you use. It seems to handle grating a lot better than mine does.thanks Stella
Maybe this is a silly question, but how do you determine how much dried you need to take out for a recipe? If it calls for 1 cup of shredded carrots, what is the dried equivalent? Great video, by the way!
Linda, I'm a very new newbie. Pls excuse my ignorance. As I live near the Red Gold Factory, I was wondering if it is possible to dehydrate canned petite diced tomatoes from the can. At the warehouse, the large cans are SO cheap. Lots less expensive than buying the tomatoes. (I have a brown thumb, growing tomatoes is not an option :) And are their any tricks to drying them. Thank you for your help
I plan on buying my frist deyhdrator tommrow. I got qustion. Most say 4 trays but goes to 7 trays when you buy extrea. But does that actaul mean 5 trays in away. As every video i have seen for most part uses the very botem. Plus how small of chuncks would you do for diced tomatos? And can you season them befor putting them in? Your video was one most edcauting i have watched. :) with my 18th bday money deside buying myself one :)
Dehydrated onions in the house once...by gods. It’s like having tear gas pumped around. 😭😭😭 Do the carrots ever turn brown on the edges or does it dehydrated before that process? Thanks.

Hi Linda. Have you ever done mashed potatoes, and potatoes for scalloped potatoes? I have not been able to find a good video on doing them. Thanks (hugs)
I have tried to dehydrating watermelon but I didn’t like the spongy texture. So I tried thin pieces to see if I could make it more like chips. Still a bit spongy. Help please.

Really smart.
I tried grating in my food processor rutabagas, turnips, carrots and parsnips, I dehydrated them together and made a soup mix it turned out amazing
R Carpenter I am doing this! Perfect idea.
Recipe?
Would love one.

I just found your do you hydrating videos yesterday. They are amazing and I have gotten a ton of ideas from them. Thank you so much.

Sir James W. V. Savile, OBE you can always make cotton covers that fit. That’s what I use.
TY
Linda this older video covered my next two dehydrating projects! Thank you for grouping them! ❤️
Many thanks Linda - had a food dehydrator years ago...what a FOOL i gave it away! Anyway got one in the mail today - ordered it online from wal-mart canada and and now dehydrating green onions. Watched that video too :-)

Camp Cossack Don't know where you are but I believe you.. I have lived in Pennsylvania and Michigan so I've dealt with cold weather.. That's why I now live in Kentucky..
Just remember to not take more than half ... I usually only take a third of what nature grows ... I want it to keep producing for me ...
i never really thought about dehydrating parsley. I'll have to try it. Thanks for the video!
@sherldoe Yes you should blanch them when they are larger pieces, but I do not blanch the shredded ones. :)

I think that's great about your buy.Cut as small as you like and play with it. It should come with a info booklet.:)
Your videos are awesome, thanks so much for sharing.
Just a hint. There are holes in the top of the shredder blade to put your fingers in for easy removal. 😉
Once again you have inspired me to buy a dehydrator... would love a recommendation on which one is the best for a retired fireman... lol
I feel this is the best

@snaps81625 GOOD FOR YOU!!! That is a whole lot of potatoes!
Hi what is the bag made of that u store dehydrated stuff in and how long can u store it cupboard
Yes you can:)
How long will the powder last? What is best way to store to prevent spoilage?
I was gifted a #10 can of artichoke hearts. Thought I could dehydrate them but didn’t see any reference on here and wondered why. Should I not ? If you could chime in your thoughts I could really use your advice
Do the flavors meld together? I keep thinking about garlic with other veg
I am very new to dehydrating. So when you want to use these ingredients in cooking you just re-hydrate in water then add to the cooking? How long does it all keep for in the pantry?

I'm new to dehydrating. Where do you put onions and garlic when dehydrating. I live in a apartment? Do they have to go outside?
My dehydrated carrots turn gray unless I blanch then first. If you have a different way I would like to know it?
My carrots dont turn gray and i dont do anything special but I do use a low temp
I have a question. Hi Linda. Have you ever done mashed potatoes, and potatoes for scalloped potatoes? I have not been able to find a good video on doing them. Thanks (hugs)
I went online and googled it:)
I have tried to dehydrating watermelon but I didn’t like the spongy texture. So I tried thin pieces to see if I could make it more like chips. Still a bit spongy. Help please.
@msrose312 You will love it. This would be my fifth one.:))
Any ideas how to get rid of stain on the mesh?
Linda, this may seem like a silly question. But, what types of food do you use the tomato powder for? I have never used it.
Linda what is the brand of your dehydrator, how many trays is max it will hold?
I thought we had to dehydrate vegetables at 125 and fruits at 135... Am I wrong?
Is it save to leave my dehydrator over night if I don’t have a timer on it?
